5x00 Hardware / 5600 worth it? Or go with 5500?
« on: May 17, 2004, 08:11:02 pm »
After having read thru this whole post, I have one nagging question. Which one is the best? I am damn sick and tired of \'almost there\'.
I would like to know I have a computer in my hand, not an experimental platform that requires hacking, like it or not, to get it working. A lot of you guys are far superior to me in asfar as computer know how is concerned. That being said, I gotta say the man asked a question, and left me and maybe him, wondering. which one is the best? For his purposes and for that  matter the \'everyday\' guy that just needs a working unit. The reason IBM gets the dough tehy do for the 6000, is it comes ready to go, no BS. For the money, seems like the best bargain.

General Discussion / Flame Wars, Episode I
« on: May 17, 2004, 07:43:25 pm »
This is the funniest shit I have seen in a while! A flame war that totally ignores the original \'perpertrator\', but instead, meanders into some really funny stuff. Thanx guys, I need a good chuckle today.

BTW, anyone with a Pocket PC, deserves it. The Z is much too complicated for them to operate, correctly.

Accessories / SD vs CF flash cards?
« on: May 09, 2004, 05:42:38 pm »
I have been using both the Lexar and SanDisk SD cards, both 256mb. Not a problem with either one. I also have NOT had any luck trying to load a ROM image from SD, no problem on CF. Go figure. I understand that initially there was a quality control issue with the main factory that supplies these chips. Most prominent were the ones sold by SanDisk, they were the first to market, therefore the first to fail. Recent product has been quite good, although I dont know about the claims of speed as such.

Accessories / cf -> pcmcia

I have tried the adaptor that comes in the Hawking wireless unit, and it terminates the Liksys card just fine in my winblows laptop. I also tried it with a generic adaptor. Worked fine also. I dont remember the brand of the adaptor, butr any of them should work. FOr around $19, you double the use of your wifi card.

General Discussion / Minicom
« on: March 25, 2004, 08:27:29 am »
To follow up on hte last message, can anyone tell me what he serial port\'s name is? tty1, 2 what? I am trying to get minicom up, and it wants to setup service to a port. I want it to communicate thru the serial port, and if I set it at tty1, the machine comes back and says the port is locked. Who locked it? Where\'s the key?

Also, if that port is unusable, has anyone tried the CF serial card thingie? Does it work?

There, that should enough questions for one silly little message!

User Request for Applications / Working VT-100 and serial port
« on: March 24, 2004, 09:01:38 pm »
How about a functional VT-100 terminal that will actually work with teh serail port. The use would be to communicate with telephone PBX\'s and key systems, as well as routers, adn any device that has that magical 9 pin serial port hanging in the back. IF this is not possible, will the new 6000 do that when it comes out?

General Discussion / sl-6000 v sl-c860 Witch Would You Buy.
« on: March 22, 2004, 11:03:09 pm »
I have a 5500 and would buy ANYTHING that would allow me to use this thing for straight up VT-100 ability to the serial port. If the 860 can do that, I would buy it. Not because of glitz, but ability. After all, it is SUPPOSED to be a personal mobile tool. :?
