Zaurus - pdaXrom / Is Lossless Audio Possible With Xmms

Not sure about XMMS, but you could try Quasar Media Player which is available for pdaXii13. It supports FLAC and the iTunes MP4 Container Format, so it can also read tags from FLAC, AAC and ALAC files. MPlayer wll do the playback part. Check my signature for the link.

Only problem is I cant control the volume and would like to view wmv too.

I have just got back my zaurus 3200 (CF slot had to be fixed) and loaded pdaXii13 akita (works great, meanie).

Is it possible to get xmms to play lossless audio like flac or aac (apple lossless)? Or are there alternative apps that will do it? I installed libflac but do not know how to setup xmms to use it so assume something else needs to be loaded.

It is back at last after 7 weeks! I sent it to conics but the problem was a bent pin which was not covered under warranty so I had to pay, but all ok now, and I got a new battery too, very reasonable price.

Brett Bennett is the guy at conics, has always been helpful.

Now what rom shall I load, as it is all in japanese!

C1000/3x00 Hardware / 3200 Cf Slot Failure

I cant backup because the CF is not recognised (I tried to flash restore). YOu are probably right, it might be a bent pin or something but I dont know how to open it. I guess it comes from frequently changing cards for network or storage. I'll definitely not change cards so frequently in future.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try figlabs or trisoft depending on price.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / 3200 Cf Slot Failure

Hi,

My 3200 has developed a fault and will not read anything inserted into CF slot, either storage or network cards. The fault I get is 'Anonymous Memory'.

I really cant use it without this slot (unless I work out USB, and I use a Mac which does not support it?).

Any ideas where I can get it fixed - I am based in UK, but it was bought from Conics, Japan. I dont really want to send it back to Japan, any ideas if there is somewhere in Europe?

Mac Issues / Still Any Mac&zaurus Users/developers There?

I use a Mac and a Zaurus, but still maintain an interest in the newton and palm platforms, which are still much superior for Pim type activities. I was disappointed that no-one yet addressed handwriting or how to get data in without using a keyboard (else it is just a tiny laptop).

However, the Zaurus is amazing for its size as it runs a full web server (if a bit slow) so it is great on a network. Also nice for showing photos, and useful for me to learn linux but I must say that I have given up on these small devices really delivering something useful out of the box.

I agree that a UMPC mac system with additional input using rosetta via touch sensitive screen would be the best device, but it might be a long time coming, if ever.

Accessories / Any Ideas For C3200 Case

I am looking for a case for my c3200 not to protect it but to use it to work in - good for travelling and at coffee houses. In other words, I dont want to remove the case.

Any ideas? I have the conics case it came with but it does not seem robust, and the top moves around a lot when open.

Is the proporta any good?

Do I have to addtype or loadmodule? I tried copying the module to ftp:/usr/local/apache2/lib/libphp4.so but no luck yet.

I finally got it working using apache2 and php from the pdaxrom unstable feed!

How do I get apache 2 to recognise the php module (used built-in feed latest 2.2.4 version) instead of displaying the php code?

I had php working in cacko with apache1 some months ago. Do I have to addtype or loadmodule? I tried copying the module to ftp:/usr/local/apache2/lib/libphp4.so but no luck yet.

I am sticking with akita NAND on my 3200 for the time being after various issue with full.

Like Jon_J, I find it very responsive and I can add whatever programs I want to the microdrive if I dont have enough room in flash.  The full version seems too slow at the moment, both launching and running apps and stylus inaccurate or unresponsive BUT ALL CREDIT to Meanie for giving us this opportunity and choice!

I will retry full version when I have more experience of the command line

don't worry, you probably did it right. there are some versions of fdisk around for the zaurus that are buggy and display weird partition numbers and don't let you create partitions properly unless you reboot after each partition created/modified...

Well I reflashed again with akita installer and repartitioned as recommended.
after reboot it still shows only 1022M for hda3 as above post with 'df -h'.

From the flash installer, I then went to console shell and this showed the proper sizes! I am wondering what will happen if I dump 3gig of data onto it to test ...


PROBLEM SOLVED - I went back to the shell from the installer and redid mkfs.vfat for /dev/hdc3 and it now shows up fine in Akita (df -h). I am wondering there may be a problem with the format commands on the reboot after the initial install.

was that with the Spitz or Akita installer? note the installer version..., ie v0.25...

It was the Akita installer, version 0.2. Since then I reformatted fine with the 6g drive, but I want to get back to the recommended partition for the full version.

Perhaps when you have updated the full image I will try again as I am not confident using fdisk and mkfs. I have tried in the past but ended up with weird results like it showing 2 /dev/hda1!

It looks like something went wrong with your partitioning, did you format your partitions during pdaxii13 first boot?

I used meanies option 1 then flashed the rom. On reboot it asked me to format and I said yes. I guess I may have to redo it manually from the flash menu instead ... if I can work out what to put in, but I guess it is on the forum somwhere on doing it manually.

Flash (I partitioned my flash to 121mb when I first installed pdaxrom beta3)
/ide (This is my first partition on the hdd, I used the recommended partitioning when installing pdaxii13-akita)

So did I, but when I run df-h I now get this - hda3 data partition seems to have shrunk, and that was using the recommended partition on the installer
