Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Package Manager
« on: February 05, 2005, 01:50:46 am »
I second the using command line ipkg -dest ram instead of packagemanager(which is horribly unstable and breaks installs when it freezes, though maybe the upgrade fixed it)
Two reasons: first stated, second: SSH and a full-size keyboard.
Don't forget to ipkg-link your packages and their dependencies.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Packagemanager Links To Ram(3.5.2)
« on: February 05, 2005, 12:26:11 am »
I'm noticing the dependencies automatically installed by ipkg are not being linked into the ram FS by packagemanager.  This causes several packages to fail claiming unable to find their dependencies.

Not sure how this can be added to the packagemanager but it shouldn't take too much (getting set up for source contribbing is more complicated than learning the languages, it seems) given it already adds selected packages with ipkg-link.

Forum's too big and searching isn't easy, hope I'm not a dupe.

Package: opie-packagemanager
Version: 1.1.7+cvs-20041127-r0

Hmm 2 months starting to seem outdated... for being a CVS pull

For Sale / Wanted / Where to buy screen protectors

The best I've ever had was some clear rubbery packing material sheets from a box sent for work under a Circuit City extented warranty service.
Almost thought it was vinyl, but it was too stretchy, I think.
Lasted forever on a casio, but that piece was too small for the zaurus and of course somebody tossed the rest of the stuff.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / wireless cf card zonet zcf1100
« on: August 20, 2004, 04:39:40 pm »
Well I can't say anything for the Zonet cards, but I've had good luck with my Trendware using OZ 3.3.5+
Great power, no problems associating, a little hard on the battery and sticks out a full inch, but it's only $50 plus shipping at tigerdirect(lowest price I've found for it)

Going to get another when I trade this one off for an MP3 player(cheaper than I can buy them for)

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / POLL: How stable is your Open Zaurus
« on: August 20, 2004, 04:35:35 pm »
I'm afraid I'm among the multiple times a day clique
I think it's mostly to blame for using an unofficial(and well hidden) OZ 3.3.7rc1
It has far superior card handling, but OPIE commits suicide every other time I install something and I have to hard reset.

General Discussion / SD 512m cards

I think there\'s a rather huge irony in saying \"Don\'t use SanDisk, use Lexar\" given that I think SanDisk makes the SD cards for Lexar.
Or maybe just the CF cards.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Problem with Zaurus seeing cf card.

Here is my solution: Never manually \"eject\" the card, just unplug it and let the hotswap handle ejecting.
Also, for me at least, never standby with the wireless card inserted(I think an issue specific to my TrendNet card-locks the OS on this and on winCE pda\'s) although sometimes inserting and coming out of standby is OK.

I must retract somewhat; Leaving it to auto-unmount doesn\'t always work.  I think the OZ beta we\'re using indeed has some hotplug issues because I just had to hard reboot to get mine back up.
It might be somewhat better if I had an officially supported card.

General Discussion / What ROMS are you using?
« on: January 29, 2004, 12:23:56 pm »
I would still be on the Sharp 3.1, or might have kept tkcROM 1.0, but OZ 3.3.6pre1 is so pretty.
And far more importantly, it successfully runs my TrendNet TEW222CF wireless card.  I also appreciate the graphical WLAN sniffing applet
