6000 - Tosa / Run Java Applets in Opera
« on: June 01, 2004, 08:41:34 pm »
You have to edit the .appletviewer file before you can access non local applets on the 6000.  Or you can install jeode from an older Z. Still have a problem with web sites that figure out your browser doesnt do applets and wont give you the page with the applet in it so you can copy the url.  (like the nist.gov time applet)

I think lcd driver is built into the xscale chip itself.

The 5500 itself can not be a USB host, you can add a CF USB  host card tho.

6000 - Tosa / Zaurus expansion sleeve...
« on: May 14, 2004, 06:01:44 pm »
Just got the sleeve today.

The sleeve has audio ducts so you can still use the built in mic and speaker. Sounds the same to me...maybe slighty muted.

The manual notes that the sleeves cf slot wont work when the sleeves battery is discharged even if the battery in the z itself is fully charged.

The nice suprise for me is the serial port on the top left side of the sleeve, which will let me use it and the keyboard at the same time I use it.  I dont know yet if its a second port or just an extension of the port on the Z.

Also nice is that with the sleeve I dont think I will accidently turn the Z off so much.

Select the reboot option from the QT menu and then type a / while its counting down, one of the options you get is to boot with ttyS0 free.

BTW I reboot into ttyS0 free mode before starting gpsd.  I\'ve never tried otherwise, I just assumed the serial port is running a PPP server by default like on the 5x00 series.

I got a serial cable from serialio.com, the sharp serial cable is the wrong sex and I havent checked to see if it even fits.  The connector itself is the same as the one on the 5x00 Z\'s.
BTW we have 6000\'s, dont know about C series.

re kismet, I replaced kismet_client with one compiled with panels support, otherwise I\'m using the 3.01c ipk. I don\'t think kismet shows any location data unless it is connected to gpsd.  Is the location data in the log files wrong too? Are you getting a .gps log file?

6000 - Tosa / Expansion Adapter vs Extra Battery Question
« on: May 11, 2004, 12:03:34 am »
that is the battery the 5500 uses, it wont work in a 6000.
There is an external charger available for it.  I havent seen one for the 6000 battery.

Kismet works fine with my garmin gps. I havent tried qpegps. I start gpsd without the -s 4800, I doubt that matters. gpsd version 1.10

I don\'t have a usb cable that fits the 6000, but I use a serial gps handheld with a USB to serial adopter cable on my laptop running linux.  I\'m hoping that when I get the 6000 usb cable it will work so I can access the keyboard while using it, which you can\'t do when using the serial port.

Qconsole works fine in 640x480 mode (fonts are tiny of course) if you uncheck \"run magnified\".
It doesnt handle a suspend very well if you su to root, but that problem appears on the 5600 as well.

My 6000 has also failed to suspend.  It turned off when the battery drained and then turned on with no problems after I pluged it in.

6000 - Tosa / Vncviewer
« on: April 28, 2004, 06:45:10 pm »
I set the panels version of kismet_client to use curses and the keyboard didn\'t work with it either.  Maybe its because I\'m using the built in ncurses (v4.2) instead of ncurses5. Anyway it works when set to panels so I\'m happy.  The QT GUI lacks some stuff, especially if your using a gps with kismet.

The keboard doesnt work with that kismet becasue it was compiled without panels support. Kismet works as expected  if you compile kismet_client with panels support,  but its 11 megs vs only 500k for the ncurses only version...
