Debian / Titchy On All Clamshell-models

Hi,

I am the proud owner of a SL-C860 and a Collie , I currently run cacko roms (1.23). I would like to try some newer distros and am amazed by what you lot are up to. It seems quite complicated though and I would like to try a bit before investing time into changing distro altogether, I use my z for work quite a bit and I want it to deliver what I need fairly quickly (impatient consummer!).

So, is there a beginners guide to Angstrom or Debian on z, all I can find is stuff which seems quite hairy to me! Or, even better, is there somewhere a NAND od either these distros that I could load on my Z to give it a go?

Thanks, I realise it's a bit cheeky to ask a quick solution but I ve been googling for an hour and nothing seems quite like an A to Z to recent Z distros,

Hi,
Thanks for the support, I managed to install and run a nice GUI as well using pdaxrom. I managed to install quite a bit like package manager, leafpad, gcalc, pine etc... Had trouble with others but mainly problems with dependencies.

So, how do you install pdaXrom on a Collie? I have looked at earlier posts, but have been unsuccessful in installing it. How are folks installing on to the SD card?

Hi there,
All the files needed seem to be at :

I am doing the install now, all seems good except that mounting local fs [failed] but that make sense as I have only put the initrd and the zImage and booted like that.

Generating a key takes a long while so be patient.

Then I got a command line login and logged as root. no password.

then run startx
then comes a calibrating cross and the gui starts with nothing installed but aterm and dillo2.

I believe the window manager is matchbox.

On the ftp server there are more files, I assume they must be put somewhere on the sd card at boot but not sure what format for the sd card.

and use the updater.sh from OZ

You don't need this on collie. Just rename the files and flash with reset+CD as usual.

Which seems to be a one day old new angstrom  distribution for the Collie. They are in the form of a few files I am not familiar with. I can't find a "how to", can anyone shed any light on how to test this new toy??

I have a 3.13 rom on my sl-5500.  why is it you do not have opera installed?  It comes by default installed.

He has Opera 6.0 and for some reason wants to upgrade to 7.30.  He's having trouble with upgrading.

Hi and sorry sdjf if I am not very active on this thread currently, I acquired a sl-c860 as well (arrived friday) and I am trying to find my way around. On top of that mandriva 2007.1 spring edition is out and I have a few pc to configure on that...

I ll be back soon (am still active on tyrannazaurus though).

Besides the French elections are on so I ll be watching a bit of that too!!

Here we are :

If I do qinstall oper... from command line I don t get any verbose, it installs and back to prompt wwith no comment.

So I did ipkg install ope...

and here is the verbose :

Hi,

I ve tried for a while to install opera 7.30 on sharp 3.13 rom on the Collie.

here is the story so far :

At my latest post sdjf asked me a snapshot of the error I get when doing qinstall [packagename] from command line. It opens the qinstall GUI and the following message (see shot) appears.

The origin of the opera ipk is :

and I ve checked the mdsum.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

A couple of questions for snappy, :

1-which browser do you use on your Collie?
2-Is it ok to keep changing distro or can it damage the zaurus. I am not too worried about damaging the sd or cpmpact card, I was thinking about lifespan for the internal memory.
