Accessories / Targus IR Keyboard Help
« on: March 15, 2004, 07:52:14 pm »
Thanks for the suggestions.  I am now thinking that perhaps I did not install the IRK package correctly? The package I installed is called: irk-zaurus_0.10.0_arm.ipk

After installation, I did a ipkg files irk-zaurus which returned:
loading conf file /etc/ipkg.conf
loading conf file /etc/ipkg/arch.conf
Package irk-zaurus (0.10.0) is installed on root and has the following files:
/.
/etc/
/etc/lircd.conf
/opt/
/opt/Qtopia/
/opt/Qtopia/plugins/
/opt/Qtopia/plugins/inputmethods/
/opt/Qtopia/plugins/inputmethods/libirk.so
/opt/Qtopia/plugins/inputmethods/libirk.so.1
/opt/Qtopia/plugins/inputmethods/libirk.so.1.0
/opt/Qtopia/plugins/inputmethods/libirk.so.1.0.0
/home/
/home/root/
/home/root/Settings/
/home/root/Settings/IRK.conf

As you can see, there is no application installed. So I cannot get into the settings, or activate IRK.  Maybe I am missing a dependent package?

Accessories / Targus IR Keyboard Help
« on: March 15, 2004, 04:10:49 pm »
I recently bought the Targus Universal IR Keyboard. I tried getting it to work with my 5500 running OZ 3.2 without success. I installed the IRK package (0.10), I enabled IR on the Z, but my Z does not see the keyboard. There is no \"On\" or \"Power\" button on the keyboard so I assume the keyboard is on once the battery is installed?

I am able to use the Zaurus to communicate over IR with my computer, so the Zaurus IR port is OK. Perhaps I have a defective IR keyboard? What should I be looking for to check if the keyboard is working? Perhaps I need to modify IRK.conf?

I would appreciate any help or suggestion.

SF / bay area zaurus meeting?
« on: February 26, 2004, 10:39:51 pm »
I had a good time also. It was nice to meet you all, and to see the cool stuff. Now I know not to get the camera, but get the IR keyboard. A 760 is now high on my wish list.

I would prefer today, since I happen to be in the city today, so that makes it convenient for me.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / VNC with OZ3.2
« on: February 11, 2004, 08:11:56 pm »
I installed fbvncserver_0.9-4_arm.ipk on OZ3.2. After installation, I rebooted and performed the calibration step. When I run the viewer on the PC, it connects to the Zaurus without any problem. I am able to do everything on the Zaurus screen using the mouse. However, I am unable to utilize the PC keyboard. I am also unable to use the buttons on the keypad when I click on them using the mouse.

Anybody else has this problem or can provide some help? Thanks.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Switching to OZ from TKRom
« on: February 10, 2004, 09:06:38 pm »
I have been experimenting with OZ, and currently using OZ 3.2. I could not get Intellisync 3.2E to work. I found a post that suggested using Intellisync 1.43E. That does work, syncing with Outlook 2000.

For transfering files, the program that came with the Sharp CD did not work for me. Instead, I use secure FTP with psftp.

By the way, I have been pretty happy after making the switch myself, but it did take some work to get stuff working.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / OZ 3.2 upgrade OPIE to 1.0.3
« on: February 06, 2004, 01:19:52 pm »
Thanks for the feedback. I will try 3.3.X eventually since I am in the process of selecting which ROM to use.

As a final attempt, I decided to let the upgrade run for as long as possible. It finally did complete, after over an hour. The only package I had to upgrade by hand afterwards was opie-pics.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / OZ 3.2 upgrade OPIE to 1.0.3
« on: February 04, 2004, 05:39:46 pm »
I have installed OZ 3.2 on the 5500 and I want to upgrade OPIE to 1.0.3. I have the OPIE packages save in the SD card. After setting up SD card as the feed location, I quit OPIE, and did ipkg update and ipkg upgrade. For the first package, I get \"invalid magic\" error. I tried the same thing using the CF card, no problems there. What is the deal with using the SD card?

Also, I always have to do perform ipkg upgrade at least twice (I have tried several times). \"ipkg upgrade\" always seem to freeze the first time. I would have to do a hard reset to continue. And even then, I have to upgrade some packages manually. Am I doing something wrong?  :?:
