I dealt w/ a broken digitizer for a few months while trying to find a cheap replacement (before we figured out how to use the Axim replacement-- I eventually bought a 5000d cheap)  You can navigate and use the Z w/o stylus pretty well, but that startup stylus config is a bitch.  It depends on how broke your digitizer is-- I just cracked the corner, so I could still get it to respond, but drawing on it w/ DrawPad produced wacky random lines.  When it reset, I had to try about 30 or 40 times before it accepted my config.  Unfortunately, $#@! pda OS designers give you NO way of  bypassing this!  (Same is true for Palm devices-- a real tragedy for devices like the Treo 600 that barely even need the stylus)

I believe I once knew how to force it to skip that by making it think it had already done the calibration by booting to console (/a1) and mucking with the files...  but I can\'t for the life of me remember what I did.  Maybe it was just a dream.  Sorry...

Oh thanks!  I didn\'t realize Cacko has that patch already in it (I haven\'t been paying attention much lately), and have considered using it instead \'cause of the 64/0 layout.  I already have my /home on my SD card, and make a 20mb swapfile, so this would be the logical next step.  Thanks for pointing that out!

Does anyone have the patched kernel available?  I (currently) do not have access to a linux computer to do the compiling myself...

thanks in advance

General Discussion / Better to Leave Z Connected to AC Power?
« on: March 08, 2004, 09:45:34 am »
Back to the original question posed, I put my Zaurus on charge/external power ANY time I can.  I have a power supply sitting under my desk at home, one at work, and one in the car.  Because I\'ve run into the embarassing situation of having it go dead on me, I trained myself to always plug it in every time I get to work or home.  I really only use the car charger on longer trips, or when I\'m using my Z as an MP3/OGG player.

There\'s videos of this thing in use available here:

Looks like a good device...  I was thinking about a design like this a while ago.  Too bad it\'s gonna crash every day.

it\'s ridiculous to complain about a product provided, for free, by a community of volunteers.

Exactly.

Excuse me?  What about it being free and made by a community of volunteers makes it excempt from criticism?  That\'s like politicians demanding that they be excempt from criticism because their intentions were good...

This brings me back to the \"What\'s the attraction?\" thread...  I feel the same way as the original poster of that thread-- especially when those of that community propose OpenZaurus as the be-all-end-all fix every time someone posts about a problem with their Sharp ROM Zaurus...

Sorry about being a come-out-of-the-shadows stalker, (although I posted quite a bit on DevNet) but this kind of elitist attitude that many open source/free/community projects have about themselves really grates on me...

Software / KOrganizer / KO/Pi (KOrganizer Platform independent)

I saw this at DevNet...  Looks very promising, and those talking about it seemed to give it very positive reviews (save not being able to import Sharp/Zaurus data).  I\'d be interested in hearing more in depth reviews.
