Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Switching To Oz Collie 64-0 + 512mb Sd...
« on: January 20, 2005, 09:05:58 am »
My previous experiments with OZ in a 64-0 configuration haven't turned out too well, probably because I basically just guessed what I was supposed to move. Too easily frustrated, I usually gave up pretty quick.

So, I've got the 5500. I've got the image on a CF card. I've got an ext2 512MB PQI SD card.

What do directories I need to move, other than /root, to sucessfully install my apps, etc?

Would I be better off trying the hentges ROM?

Thanks.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / What Case Do You Have For Sl-c3000?
« on: January 04, 2005, 01:17:03 pm »
I've been doing some digging around for a cheap but functional case with room for accessories as I'm making plans to blow my tax refund on a C3000 in a couple of months.

I grabbed one of these (the PTA-801) at Microcenter for < $3 a couple of weeks ago. Can't seem to find it at the Microcenter site, though.

Anyway, it holds my 5500 in a cheap slip case, USB thumb drive, 2' USB cable, 7-way card reader, peakcloudy battery pack, plus CF wireless card and modem with room to spare. Might work for a 3000.

It's nice, heavy nylon, with a decent amount of padding, and seems to protect everything well enough bouncing around in my satchel. Plus, it looks more like a toiletry case than something that holds an expensive gadget, so maybe it'll deter theives.

Unfortunately, Microcenter doesn't seem to have it online. I found it in with the camera cases.

5x00 Hardware / Buttons not working
« on: September 17, 2004, 03:54:29 pm »
You must have been typing that literally as I was cleaning it.

Not having an itty bitty Phillips here at work, I soaked a 2cm strip of paper towel in some 70% rubbing alcohol and managed to wiggle it under the slider to get at the "open" contacts.

Didn't even have to get behind the PCB, and now it works like a charm.

Thanks zbones.

5x00 Hardware / Buttons not working
« on: September 17, 2004, 11:58:02 am »
I've been having problems over the past couple of weeks with the buttons on my 5500.

The "down" d-pad button has been slowly going downhill and now rarely works at all. Lately, the Cancel/On/Off button has only been working intermittently.

I've got a feeling that there's some cat hair, dust, crud, and Pringle's crumbs built up behind the buttons that are causing the problem, but I just want to run it by the ZUG before I start taking things apart.

Hmmm... I just noticed that it's less likely to work when the keyboard's open.

Any ideas?

Accessories / Sooo... I lost my CF slot protector...
« on: April 10, 2004, 01:06:35 pm »
Actually, I\'m more than a little shocked that it\'s taken me this long.

Does anybody know where I might find some replacements?

I supposed I could just stick a CF card in there, but I\'m a little concerned that it might be a power drain.

A little help?

Thanks.

User Request for Applications / Onboard Plucker distiller...
« on: March 31, 2004, 09:14:45 am »
I\'m kinda suprised nobody\'s asked about this yet.

For me, Plucker is a killer app, as I\'m not usually within range of an AP during most of the day, and I\'d love to be able to scrape my sites while I\'m waiting in line for coffee or something.

Has anybody managed to get the command line version of the distiller running onboard?

If not, I\'ll give it a shot myself, but I don\'t know enough about Python to know where to get started. Which Z distro of Python am I gonna need, and which libraries?

I suppose I should take a look at the distiller source...

And for those of you who are eagerly anticipating the results, it works perfectly.

lardman:

I\'ve got LD_LIBRARY_PATH set to /home/QtPalmtop/lib, which is where all the other libraries for my non-ROM apps are at. Does that sound right?

keith:

I like QTReader\'s navigation setup better, and it seems to render Plucker stuff better (when it works, that is.) YMMV.

Software / qtreader probs
« on: March 27, 2004, 11:41:19 pm »
It\'s always been a little unstable for me, but now it isn\'t starting at all.

Running it from the terminal says that it\'s looking for libreader_codec.so.1.

Checking out /home/QtPalmtop/lib/ shows that I\'ve already got a link from libreader_codec.so.1 to libreader_codec.so.1.0.0.

Fine.

rm the old link, make a new link, still no dice.

I\'ve already reinstalled the ipk... doesn\'t seem to help.

Anybody have any idea what\'s up? It reaaaalllly sucks not being able to read my plucker files while I\'m supposed be looking productive in meetings.

I\'m running Sharp ROM 3.10 on a 5500.

Accessories / FX100 Roll-Up Keyboard
« on: February 23, 2004, 08:11:37 am »
Has anybody tried it, specifically on the 5500? Is touch typing possible? Are there driver issues with the various ROMs?

I\'m finding my Micro Innovations IR keyboard a little too compact for my sasquatch hands. It looks all tiny and slick when its folded up, but I can actually type faster on the thumb board.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Software / Flowchart app?
« on: February 01, 2004, 10:56:04 pm »
Anybody know if there\'s a simple flowchart program ala Kivio or Visio available for the Z?

I\'m taking a @#$^! intro to programming class; if I\'m going to waste time messing around with purty pictures, I\'d like to be able to do it in the can.

I swear I\'ve looked all over, but nothing\'s turned up.

Thanks.

Software / libncurses.so.5

Will do.

Actually, I was screwing around with it at work, and just symlinked it to so.4. Seems to work fine.

Software / libncurses.so.5
« on: January 30, 2004, 09:52:18 am »
Howdy.

I know it makes me something of a philistine, but I prefer nano or pico to vi.

Point and laugh if you want to.

Anyway, the Z versions won\'t run without libncurses5, which the Z doesn\'t have. All of the links on the ZSI are dead.

Anybody know where I can get myself an ipk?

Thanks.
