C1000/3x00 Hardware / C3k's Vs. C860's Directional Buttons?

I think the d-pad is much nicer (easier to use, good for games). Especially if you're right handed (alas, I'm not).

gdog, glad you've liked the reviews! I had the C3000 for about a month and no problems with the HDD at all.

I read PDFs with C series machines in landscape using QPDF2- works well for me. Use fit to width mode.

It's a super machine. If I didn't own a C860 that I've got tweaked to suit me in most every way, I'd get one.

Thanks

Such a nice unit! Though it won't be replacing my beloved C860.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / C3000 Battery Life?
« on: December 19, 2004, 07:27:23 pm »
The C3000 is very close in size to the C860, adding only a few mm here and there.

The battery life isn't quite as good on the C3000 compared to my C860. Then even brighter display and microdrive eat more power.

Like the C860, it doesn't have a built in mic. You can however plug a mic into the 3.5mm audio jack.

tumnus,

I gave it a try. On installation it told me to rename the package to bluez-zaurus_arm and try again. Did that and the installer then launched successfully.

As it ran, the machine dopped to runlevel 5, and was attempting modprobe if I recall corectly. It echoed this about 5x on the display then gave an error to the effect that it couldn not find wlan0. No BT card was in the slot, but my wifi card was-- been a while since I installed Bluez on my c860 but I dont recall anything like this happening or it being a no-no to have an wifi card in the slot.

Then the machine rebooted. Hmmm... I will play more tomorrow.

Since this is a review unit, I'll be returning the c3000 on Monday. So I'll try to explore some more tomorrow. If it's easier tumnus, you can email me directly with any questions. I think you have my email- it's my first name @pdabuyersguide.com.

The BL11 has 100 mA more capacity-- not terribly significant.

tumnus,

The directory under lib/modules is: 2.4.20

Inside 2.4.20 we have the directories: kernel, net, pcmcia and rsaipsecc. Also inside 2.4.20 are the files modules.dep, modules.generic_string, modules.isapnpmap, modules.parportmap, modules.pcimap, modules.usbmap.

If you need anymore info, let me know soon as I have to send the C3000 back on Monday the 20th.

I'll be posting a review of the C3000 next week on pdabuyersguide.com. I received the unit from Dynamism for review. I have purchased things from them and they're great to do business with.

The C3000 does not have a latch that holds the clamshell closed. It uses the tension of the hinge to keep the device closed, which is effective.

I've used it for a few weeks, and I can't hear the drive spin and do not notice a delay that's any longer than the C860 or 6000 launching apps from flash ROM.

SD memory cards do not protrude.

I used my Ambicom CF WiFi card with the C3000 and had no problems (same goes with my C860). The drivers in the OS worked fine.

The keyboard has caps lock, and the available keyboard combos are the same as the C860 and other Cxx models.

Cxx0 Hardware / AC adapter doesn\'t give an SL-C760 a full charge in the USA

The EA-72 Sharp charger than came with my C860 always charges to 100% and the Zaurus light goes from amber to green when charging is done.

Cxx0 General discussions / Carrying case for the C860
« on: September 18, 2004, 06:25:31 pm »
Thanks for the referal  Our case review is at http://www.pdabuyersguide.com/tips/Zaurus_...accessories.htm . Though it's bulky, I really like the Extreme Limit case and that's the one I mainly use. Lots of protection and style, but like I said, bulky.

Cxx0 General discussions / Replacement for the c860 coming soon..?

I've heard rumors from a vendor that there will be a new model by the end of this year. However, I have NO idea what new features it will add.
