Qt/Qtopia / Dev environment setup instructions
« on: April 21, 2004, 09:07:45 pm »
Mark,

I gave it a quick look over - very nice!   Will try to follow it in detail this coming week when I have more time.  Hope to  give you any (constructive) comments at that time.  I\'m looking at this from a noob point of view so my comments will likely not be very technical.

Once you\'re happy with it, will you please put it in the How-Tos on this site so it doesn\'t get lost?  It would help fill in some gaps with respect to the current How-to  on compiler setup.

Thanks,
Mark

Sharp ROMs / 5600 1.32 Update Question...

Jed,

I don\'t have direct experience with such an upgrade.  But a previous post indicated it would be OK.

Qt/Qtopia / Cheap way to develop with Linux on Z-SL-5600? Anyone?
« on: March 24, 2004, 11:01:39 pm »
I have a wireless network and use a WiFi CF card on the Z along with ssh and scp to login and transfer files to the Z.  If you don\'t already have one, it would be cheaper to buy the card rather than going out and buying another computer and you would also end up with another toy for your Z.

OK Sorry - didn\'t read your post carefully.  When I navigated there, I didn\'t click on the link path as you indicated.  Seems they should know better to take care in setting up accurate links considering the potential consequences of flashing a Z with the wrong ROM.

I hope you get a meaningful response from them.  I\'ve sent them a few emails asking about the disappearance of the development site and got non-responsive replies.

Terminus,

Seems to work now.   Is this what you found?

This has probably been posted before, but it is related to the question of using kismet with the Socket wlan CF (but not the original post on WEP):

Accessories / Pocketop wireless keyboard at Sears
« on: February 20, 2004, 12:41:35 am »
Wandering around the electronics department of Sears last weekend, I noticed they had some Pocketop wireless keyboards on a clearance sale.  The price was not great - $70.00.  But if you\'re in the market for one, it is convenient.  Don\'t know if it is common for Sears stores to stock the item so there\'s no guarantee you\'ll find one at your local store.  Still, might be worthwhile for a visit if you\'re looking for one.

Dear offroadgeek and the other team members,

After just getting my first Z, a SL-5600, I was very disappointed to see the major Sharp sites disappear.  And, I was extremely happy that your site mirrored them.  This must have taken some effort and time on your part.

This leads me to wonder about your site.  Who are you?  What is the goal of your site?  What motivates you?  And, what is the expected longevity of your site?  Perhaps you should put up an \"About Us\" page.

Once again, I\'m grateful for all the information that is available here.  You\'re doing a great job.  If you are doing this on your own without commercial support, I would be willing to make a modest contribution given a way to do so.  Certainly don\'t want your site to all of sudden disappear like the Sharp sites!

5x00 Hardware / Socket and WEP ?
« on: February 16, 2004, 09:05:32 pm »
Sorry for the delayed response - I have the same experience as clofland.  I had to set the my access point so the \"shared key authentication\" is \"optional\".  (I have an airlink+ access point.  Probably equivalent to your \"Open\" setting.)  So the security is not quite as high as it could be.  Don\'t know if it makes a difference, but the \"key\" on both the access point and 5600 were set in \"ASCII\" format (not hex).   In the case of my access point, a 13-digit key is interpreted as 128 bit encryption.

General Discussion / woohoo, just got my 860 from Brando !!!!
« on: February 15, 2004, 03:40:28 pm »
OK - thanks for the info.  I just bought a SL-5600.  After buying all the extras (extreme-limits body suite, extra charger, serialio USB cable, SD card, etc.) the price differential compared to the price you paid for a C860 is not that great.  Maybe I need to try to rationalize owning two PDAs.

5x00 Hardware / Socket and WEP ?
« on: February 14, 2004, 12:59:45 pm »
Mine worked fine for me but I upgraded my SL-5600 to the stock SHARP v1.32 ROM.

Also, I initially had problems with my wireless access point.  Found that the firmware was out-of-date by a couple of versions.  After upgrading it, WEP worked fine.

I can\'t really offer you any advice because I didn\'t do anything special - only that you should have hope that it should work.
