Software / Is Kde Pim/pi Dead?

Hello Lutz,

what a surprise to hear from you! It's great to see that KDEPIM/PI is still - well - maintained (if not "actively under development" anymore).
The vanishing of pi-sync.net and the fact that version 2.2.7 now is almost 3 years old suggested that you dropped the project entirely.

How about the sync features?
As far as I understood, you intended to make KDEPIM/PI compatible with a lot of sync partners, also using SyncML, and also with Outlook.
Any plans for KO/PI Outlook sync under Windows?

I must admit I have switched to outlook and Windows Smartphone for the PIM stuff now, this is necessary for me for my work, and I actually hate it.  OTOH I don't want to maintain more than one calendar / todo list etc., so I switched away from KO/PI, although I really, really liked it (as you know :-).
Having outlook sync would again allow useds like me to use KO/PI while not having to maintain different calendars.

And thanks for 2.2.9! Will anyone compile it for pdaXrom? :-)

Thanks

daniel

Hi Daniel!

I gave up to support many sync partners because the interfaces are changing all the time and if I implement a solution which works today perhaps will not work with the next version...

I have a smart phone as well which I am syncing with Outlook. Because the most important data on a smartphone are the contacts for me I implemented the KA/Pi Outlook sync.

To implement the syncing of KO/Pi with Outlook is not complicated for the syncing itself.
It is complicated to implement a solution for all the different recurring rules which makes sense.

Such that I cannot say when I will implement a KO/Pi <-> Outlook sync.

The KA/Pi <-> Outlook sync will be available when I upload the new version for windows - maybe in 1-4 weeks.

I'm really happy to hear that the project isn't dead, and that there's a new version available!

I've taken his changes, and released a [very beta] version of KDEPIMPI for the Nokia Internet Tablet (the successor to my Zaurus SL6000). This version has some rough edges, and contains no substantial changes over the 2.2.7 release, but it does work on both the desktop and Nokia Tablet. The source code is available at the Maemo Garage website for KDEPIMPI. The code needs some changes make it fully workable on the Nokia Tablet. Once that happens, there will be a new group of users and potential developers to support the project.

I think we should avoid forks here. Is it ok to send your patch to Zautrix or ask Zautrix to add you to the sourceforge project.
Absolutely! I agree on both points. I did not want to fork kdepimpi...in fact, I've tried to get in touch with Zautrix before I set up the Maemo Garage site.

I would be very happy to contribute my mimimal changes back to the main source code branch...though Michael Krelin did most of the work, including an angstrom port.

Ideally, we can continue this via email. I'd like to discuss the details of getting the code from the Maemo Garage site back to the sourceforge site directly with Zautrix.

For the record, I'm also interested in the KDEPIMPI development. And I will try keep it up-to-date in Angstrom.

Hi!

I got your PM and I will contact you via email today.

Software / Kde-pim/pi 2.2.9 Available For Sharp Rom
« on: May 07, 2008, 06:50:47 am »
Hi!

I just uploaded version 2.2.10.

It is available for Sharp-Rom and Suse Linux 10.3.

There are no major fixes compared to version 2.2.9 - more or less I just recompiled version 2.2.9 for suse 10.3 and fixed some compilation problems with the C++ compiler.

A new Windows version will follow - maybe in 1-4 weeks.

z.

 ********** VERSION 2.2.10 ************

Fixed some compilation issues on Suse 10.3.
(i.e. with gcc (GCC) 4.2.1 (SUSE Linux))

Changed display of cancelled todos in What'sNextView:
Now a cancelled todo is not shown in What'sNextView.

Fixed a problem when syncing recurrent todos.

Software / Is Kde Pim/pi Dead?

KDE-Pim/Pi is not dead and will never die.

But for me KDE-Pim/Pi is currently almost feature complete.

Such that I am doing not much development.

I added some fixes and features to the 2.2.7 version.
All that changes are released in the cvs during the last years.

But I did not upload a new binary version.
(Yes, I know: I was lazy. )

I just uploaded a new version 2.2.9 for Sharp Rom.

Software / Kde-pim/pi 2.2.9 Available For Sharp Rom
« on: April 08, 2008, 05:15:38 pm »
Hi folks!

I just uploaded version 2.2.9 of KDE/Pim PI.
This is for Zaurus/Sharp Rom only.

A new version for Windows will follow later (in 1-2 weeks maybe).

And yes - you did not miss version 2.2.8.
It was only in the source cvs and I never uploaded a binary version.

z.

Info about the changes in new versions of KDE-Pim/Pi

********** VERSION 2.2.9 ************

Again I added some features I was missing...

Added in KO/Pi alarm applet for the zaurus the possibility to
- set the suspend duration for the next suspended alarm
- display the currently suspended alarm and remove it

Fixed in KO/Pi What'sNext view the display of recurring multiday and allday events.

Changed in KO/Pi What'sNext view the display of multiday events.
Now for events longer than 3 days only the start date and the end date of the event is displayed.
Fixed in  What'sNext view some problems with recurring todos.
Added to the action menu the possibility to change quickly the number of displayed days in the What'sNext view.

Added to overdue todos in  What'sNext view the info about how many days that todo is overdue.

Added to the list view and search list a column "proi" which display the priority of todos.

Added to the print dialog (only available in desktop versions) when printing todos another feature: Now you can specify the number of topmost prios of todos you want to print out. E.g. you can print only your todos of priority 1-2.

********** VERSION 2.2.8 ************

I forgot what I fixed...

Some minor fixes in KA/Pi and KO/Pi.

KA/Pi uses popup menu now for quick category selection in contact edit dialog.

In the Pi-syc mode of KO/Pi it is now possible to define specific resources which can be synced with the remote pi-sync server.
This feature must be considered as unstable - it still needs some more testing.

On Wintendo now KA/Pi can sync with Outlook. The configuration of the sync needs some moer tweking.
Fixed some gcc 4.xx compilation probs.
Fixed an annoying cursor focus reset problem when editing and (auto-)saving journal enries in KO/Pi.

Added:
OOps, I forgot the download link:

General Discussion / Where Is Zautrix?

Hello,

zautrix, are you reading the forum?

If not, does anyone know what happened to zautrix (author of kdepim/pi)?
I have not heard from him in a long time, no email replies etc...

Sorry for that!

I was pretty busy in the US end of last year.
And now I did know when I will have time to work on KDE-Pim/pi.
Actually I implemented the KA/Pi Outlook sync and the multi Resouce sync in KO/Pi.
These changes are not yet released as a new testing version because of lack of time.
My highest priority is now the KO/Pi Outlook sync.
And, by the way, I fixed your "saving makes coursor in journal view jumping" bug.
I hope I will have some time soon and contact you about your emails.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Kdepimpi For Rc12 On 3100
« on: January 07, 2006, 06:03:16 pm »

Hi All,

I still have the prob with kapi complaining about not existing libmicrokabc_sharpdtm.so and libmicrokabc_olaccess.so. The trick with symbolic link in /opt/kdepimpi seems to not work with beta1 (the is no /opt/kdepimpi, it's /opt/kdepim-2.2.7, ok). I created the symbolic links as described above, but kapi still cant find this libs.
Any idea to solve this is very appricated

Thanks a lot in advance

Best regards

There is nothing wrong if you get these messages on pdaXrom.
Theses libs are not available for pdaXrom.

And libmicrokabc_olaccess will never be available for any platform ... I have to remove that message ...

Well done cattin.  Is the "14% constant CPU usage by KA/PI" issue still there?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=109865\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

unfortunately this version of KA/PI still uses precious CPU resources even when idle.

Strange.

I really have to figure out why that happens ...

Software / Ko/pi Small Request...hey I'll Pay You For It..

ive got this idea, how about an alarm being able to trigger a program, say flite and have flite actually say what the alarm is about? say "description of the todo/event etc..." ? Now that would kick some butt, your pda tells you that you need to buy bread before you go home, or whatever. Would it be feasable? you could have checkboxes to select whether it told you description, catergory or type(todo/event).

and you could have an option to have alarm go off first...to grab your attention.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=108015\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Currently you can start any program as an alarm action.

But if you pay me my hourly rate of 50$ I can implement what you want, of course...

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Alarms With Kdepim/pi For Rc12 Sl-c3100
« on: December 04, 2005, 10:57:06 am »
Thanks for this detailed information.

In January I will try to integrate an automatic wakeup (based on your solution) into the KO/Pi ipks such that this is running out of the box when installing KO/Pi.

Now I have to find a used 760/860...

I've compiled 2.2.7 for RC12, on my SL-C860.  It contains kapi, kopi, kammu - see attachment.

Thanks a million!

I wish we could get the developer to release pdaxrom versions of these so we don't have to keep compiling them at random.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=105390\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Hehe. Yes, why not?
I would like to give  pdaXrom a try.

But I would need a second Z to install pdaXrom and test Kx/Pi.
Does anybody have a spare Z 760/860 to give/sell it to me?

Software / Kde-pim/pi 2.1.0 Available!

With, or without the alarm applet installed...if I create an appointment/to do with an alarm set and then go to check the entry, it's flagged with the alarm correctly. EX. "30 Minutes Before". However, if I exit the program (with saving first), and go back into KO/PI, and check the entry the alarm says "!30(Disabled) Minutes Before". The alarms will not work at this point. I've tested everything! If I create the apts. in KO/PI on the Zaurus without exiting, it's OK. But if I sync from my Windows machine, which I usually do because of convenience, it comes across with the "(disabled)" stuff. This is happening in EVERY VERSION, with/without the alarm applet installed. Has anyone seen this and does anyone know the solution?

"!30(Disabled) Minutes" does mean that the alarm is disabled in the resource settings.

There may be a bug with that  "disable alarm" resource settings.

I will look at this.

Just wondered if any major changes were/are planned for the next release. It has been almost a month since the last release and they normally come faster than that? Or it could be that people are busy with there real jobs.    Thanks
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=105478\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Yes, I am currently very busy.

I am working on making it possible to sync in pi-sync mode specific resources.
It looks quite well in KO/Pi but it needs more testing.

And I tried to find a solution for Kx/Pi syncing with Outlook.
It seems so that there are all problems resolved with the KA/Pi Outlook syncing.
But it still needs to be implemented...

I will make some testing versions available next weekend (probably).

But do not expect a stable version before Christmas.

small issue here, tried to use my own wav file for the alarm, and it refuses to play it? ANy ideas? using v2.2.5
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=104749\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
From the KO/Pi FAQ:

Q:
I want to get another alarm sound than the default. What I have to change?
A:
The default alarm sound is a wav file:
It is  (QPEDIR)/pics/korganizer/koalarm.wav.
(Usually QPEDIR=/home/QtPalmtop).
(On the desktop, the path is:
(installdir)/kdepim/korganizer/koalarm.wav)
Just replace this file by another one und do a
'simulate alarm' to ckeck, if it works.
('Simulate alarm' not available on the desktop,
because it is in the alarm applet)
Wav files can have different sampling data.
(e.g. 16/8bit, stereo/mono, 22kHz/11kHz/...)
Note: It seems to be that there are problems with particular
combination of these settings.
If one file is not replayed properly,
just try another file/ another sampling data.

Software / Kde-pim/pi 2.1.0 Available!
« on: October 29, 2005, 04:02:33 am »
I have changed to telephone number editing and management in KA/Pi.
That is need for the Outlook sync, which will be available soon.

Please test that new feature and give some feed back!

In particular:
Is in the SharpDTM sync the mapping of the phone numbers still working?
Please test!

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.p...ckage_id=112604

Release notes of version 2.2.6 - testing:

********** VERSION 2.2.6 ************

KO/Pi:
Made navigation in datepicker more userfriendly when using keyboard for scrolling.
KO/Pi Alarm applet:
Made font size for the two popup menus with larger font configurable:
Change size with menu:
Play Beeps->Font Size
Save settings such that it will be restored after next reboot with menu:
Play Beeps->Config->Save.
KA/Pi:
Big change! Needed for the upcoming Outlook sync:
(Outlook sync available appr. end of 2005)
Telephone number types are now fixed in KA/Pi
(but still compatible with the vCard standard, of cource)
and they are compatible with the types used by the evil empire.
That makes syncing with OL possible and make it possible to sync better with mobile devices.
NOTE:
All your telephone types will be converted automatically at loading/importing!
Such that it may be a good idea to make a backup of the data before starting KA/Pi.
But the editing of phone numbers and types has changed completely such that it is now much faster to edit/change types and numbers.
HINT:
To see whether there was some number for some contact not converted senseful, choose
Menu: View->Modify view
and add "Other Phone" ( in German "Sonst. Telefon") to the view.
If a type was not converted senseful to some of the 18 new, fixed types, it will get the "Other" type.
