General Discussion / Question About Japanese C3000

I am thinking of getting a c3000 Japanese model that has a cacko rom installed.  I don't know anything about conversions etc. but doubt I would want to go for a Sharp rom based on my experience with my sl-5500 -- I'm using oz.

My question is will installing cacko or pdaxrom be all I need to do to have a fully functioning c3000? Will everything be in English?

I noticed trisoft has some downloable stuff for cl3000, is any of this a  'default' English rom?

All the manuals and cds will be in Japanese,  I've been using Linux for over 9 years and can handle a sl-5500, I drove all over the south using the gps etc., but the Japanese rom and conversions  make me uneasy.

Any advice or suggestions ...

I thought of upgrading to 3.5.1 but haven't so far. If you let me know where you are stuck with roadmap lperhaps I can help. I'd  suggest trying to  get gpsd up and running and test it wirh QCfGps to see if your setup is communicating with the satellites and then try and get roadmap working.

OK, after writing the previous post-- it all became clear - my firewall was blocking it   Stopped the firewall on the desktop and it works -- I'll have to ammend iptables -- not sure why I was letting ICMP through.

Shdwdrgn, thanks for the suggestion but it still doesn't work. I thought it may be a Wifi problem but I have tried it with my CF ethernet card and still the same problem. I am wondering if it is not something to do with my Belkin wireless router, I can ping my desktop, so it is letting ICMP through, but maybe not regular packets?? I looked at the router setting and didn't notice anything that should  cause this problem.

I am not one to tire easily, I got my GPS up and running with gpsd and roadmap and flite, but this is something that should be really trivial, just can't figure it out

I'll try it on another Linux, maybe Mandrake.

BTW on my desktop I run the nfs script .. should I be running anything else

I can't get NFS to work, I have the server on a Fedora Core2 box, have exports file and hosts.allow.

On the Zaurus SL-5600 Sharp ROM I created a /mnt/nfs directory, I enter:
mount -t nfs -o nolock 192.168.2.13:/home/arnold  /mnt/nfs

and the response is:

mount: RPC: Unable to receive; errno = No route to host
mount: nfsmount failed: Bad file descriptor
mount: Mounting 192.168.2.13:/home/arnold on /mnt/nfs failed: Invalid argument

I get a similar response from a SL-5500 with OZ 3.3.6-pre1

I can ping 192.168.2.13 from the Zaurus

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / qpeGPS segfault

I am using OZ-3.3.6-pre1 and qpegps segfaults too. I have been playing with this  for some time.  gpsd deamon works fine but the app crashes.

You may have tried this, but:

1) Remove battery and reset
2) Make sure your CF card is formatted FAT16
3) Make sure power is connected when flashing
4) Remove SD card if inserted
5) Check image name, zImage and initrd.bin -- open a dos window and check the names on the CF card.

Software / zradio - works, but
« on: March 03, 2004, 03:38:04 pm »
Thaks for the links, I\'ll check them out. I wrote an application for myself on Windows that plays shoutcast streams and can also save them as MP3 files, started with WIN32 API and then used Borland C++ Builder. I used a library called FMOD and also LameEnc for encoding, I would like to port it to Zaurus, FMOD works on Linux but not Zaurus. I don\'t use a lot of the FMOD functions so that should not be a problem. I don\'t have any idea how difficult it would be as I have not  yet installed a Zaurus development environment or tried to do anything with it.

Software / zradio - works, but
« on: March 03, 2004, 01:39:37 pm »
I paid for zradio and tried to install it on my SL-5500 with Open Zaurus 3.3.5.
It doesn\'t install and Package  Manager complains:

Package zradio has no Architecture defined

Has anyone installed this with Open Zaurus? I convinced my girlf friend to buy an SL-5600  and I installed it there with no problems on the default Sharp ROM.

BTW I think it\'s incredibly bad form for this guy to charge for software he no longer supports.  If he no longer wants to support it after a couple of years, which I can understand, he should pass it on (or sell it) to someone else or give it away free.

I am going to let Handago know that he no longer supports the software.

5x00 Hardware / Meritline MWL-672 Wireless LAN 11b Compact Flash Adapter

Recieved the card today, seems like a good adapter, worked out of the box on my SL-5500 running OZ 3.3.5.  The adapter goes for $32, with shipping and tax (I live in CA) came to just over $40. Z says it\'s  an \"Orinoco or Prism 2\"

Found a CF modem at Radio Shack on clearance for $19.99, worked out of the box on my SL-5500.

Card says: 56K Compact Flash Modem Radio Shack 25-928. On the back says MODEL: FB CFVFM-5614RD and below that \"Pretec\"
