Zaurus - pdaXrom / C860 + Beta1 New Install/new User/new Problems

I've never seen or heard about that issue before.

P.S. It might help somebody (not necessarily me) to post what Zaurus model you have and where the symlinks are going to (SD, CF, etc.).
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=153060\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Yes, of course.  I installed BlueZ and other apps to /mnt/user, symlinks were create for the libs from /mnt/user/usr/lib to /usr/lib, some of them get lost on reboot.  Usually the *.[0-9] links.

I have not been following this group and there is a lot to search, but is there a "beta1 fix annoying issues guide or site"?

The good:

Install was easy, just like Cacko.
Getting my WiFi and Socket Rev L BT working was easy.
PAN networking to my 3G phone was also easy.  Avg speed is about 320 kbits with scp, 400 kbits with wget.
Feed has all the goodies I need.  Installing them now.
GUI faster than X/Qt.

The bad:

Window manager not as efficient as others.  Looking for recommendations to get me started quickly.  I was using blackbox with X/Qt.  Replacement WM should have links to all apps.  Unsure how this works with pdaXrom.  Perhaps it is just a setup issue.  Adding the task applet helped a lot.

The ugly:

Getting random blank screen and suspend.  I have shutoff both with the taskbar applet, but it still happens.  UPDATE: Fixed, there is a conflict with the blanking applet and the power settings.  I had to kill the blanking applet.

The very ugly, this could be a deal breaker:

Using BT PAN with Socket Rev L I get corrupted packets.  I know it is not my phone because I do not have this problem with Win/XP + Phone 3G or Cacko + Ambicom BT.  I know I have 2 variables here.  I will test Ambicom BT later.  That may prove nothing since they use different BT stack components.  UPDATE:  pdaXrom + Ambicom BT, no problem.  Is there a newer BlueZ for beta1?

Looking for a little direction here.  My top reason to switch to pdaXrom was getting my Socket BT to work.

Thanks.

Yes, pdaXrom is actively developed. There is a new release expected in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for the quick reply, I am in no hurry, should I just wait for the next release?

Thanks.

I'm currently running cacko, but I'd like to give pdaXrom a go...
I am in the same situation with an c860.  Looks like my choices are beta1 or r121.  I am not religious about kernels.  I just need Socket BT support and a robust development environment (on or off Z is fine).

I just completed a NAND backup, I am ready, so beta1 or r121?  Thanks.

P.S. Is pdaXrom still actively developed?

Sharp ROMs / Cacko 1.23/socket Cf Bt Rev L Not Working
« on: January 18, 2007, 03:21:58 pm »
I just obtained a Socket CF BT to replace my Hagiwara sys-com (blue monkey) CF adapter.

Cacko 1.23 (c860) did recognize the CF card as "Socket Bluetooth Card v2.5", but I am unable to communicate with it.  E.g. hcitool scan fails with "Device is not available: No such device".

lsmod returns:

hidp
rfcomm
l2cap [hidp rfcomm]
pxa_bi
storage_fb
usbdcore
usbdmonitor
hci_uart (unused)
bluez [hipd rfcomm l2cap hci_uart]
serial_cs (unused)
sharp_mmcsd_m

What am I missing?

Thanks.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Scientific Calculator

I'm wondering if there's any scientific calculator available in OZ/Opie?

If you can run X/qt on OZ/Opie then try the following HP emulators:

General Discussion / Lotus Notes And Zaurus

Hi,

I have a SL-C3100 Zaurus with Cacko 1.23. In general I feel good with the zaurus but now I want to synchronize  my Zaurus with Lotus Notes. Regrettably I haven 't enough knowledge or experience to come along with it.

I spend much time to find anything working at this forum but with no success!

One entry at this forum "https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=72&t=5351" talks from Intellisync 5.00.02 which should have "Lotus Notes Connectors"  but sadly this version of intellisync isn 't available anymore. Does someone has it and maybe could provide it for me.

Did someone manage it to synchronize Zaurus [Ko/Pi, KA/Pi, email] with Lotus Notes?

Regards

I used XTNDConnect to sync Notes with Outlook, then Outlook to Zaurus.  I do not sync with Z anymore so I have not tested this in over a year.

Software / Perl Gui Development On The Z

Is it possible? making a simple GUI using perl on the Z?

I do a lot of text processing and would really like to learn an "easy to master" language that I could use on multiple platforms that could also display a real simple GUI to make it a little more friendly.  I've also heard about Python, but a bit in the dark about that.  One condition is that it must be able to support Japanese characters for file input/output.

Any thoughts appreciated.

What GUI?

If your Zaurus is Qt based (the default) then Perl may be out.  AFAIK, Perl/Qt development is stalled.  I have been unsuccessful at getting a Perl/Qt development environment built for the Zaurus.  I think the problem was that Perl/Qt is based on version 3 and the Zaurus on version 2.  That was two years ago--I am struggling to remember.  I am not saying it is impossible, but will take some work.

Python/Qt is ready to go.  I would suggest that you use Python.  Get the book "GUI Programming with Python: Using the Qt Toolkit".

If you have X/qt Installed or run pdaXrom, then you can do anything you want.  I use Perl/Tk for GUI under X/qt.  I am sure that there is also Perl/GTK too.  If I want to build newer Qt libs for X/qt, I could have Perl/Qt as well.

The Perl/Tk with X/qt I use is archived here: [a href=\"http://sense.net/zc/perl/]http://sense.net/zc/perl/[/url]

The Python/Qt I used is archived here: http://sense.net/zc/python/, I think I got them from here:  http://www.vanille.de/projects/python.spy.  But the ones in my archive I know work with Sharp and Cacko ROMs.  Install pyqt and other dependencies.  Read this: http://www.brad.emerika.com/zaurus/index.php, get the book and you are on your way.

Software / New Hp48gx Emulator Port

When you say it's really slow on the Nokia 770, how slow is this? Do you have the test loop data available for that machine?

I don't really understand what your base & turbo MHz figures mean in the table on the bottom of your page: http://sense.net/zc/x48/

Doesn't the xScale run at a single frequency (though it can be changed), or do you use some kind of cpufreq and these are the boundary speeds? Presumably the 770 should be as fast as the c860 @ ~220MHz, but from your comment about it being slow, I'm not so sure.

Thanks,

Simon

P.S. Are the binaries on your page optimised for the xscale?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=126389\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
It takes about 1000 sec.  I built Free42 for Zaurus and Nokia and it does not have a performance problem.  Looking at software as the issue.

I'm stumped.  I have the same problem.  For now I created .tgz files of the binaries that you can click download.  I'm looking into my Apache setup today.

Another option is to type:

wget URL, e.g.:

wget [a href=\"http://sense.net/zc/free42/free42]http://sense.net/zc/free42/free42[/url]

The link names and the file names are the same.

there is a problem with your download links, instead of downloading the binaries it opens an html page with many charachters and letters such as a page with errors
please check

freebird

I'll look into it, for now just right click save.
