5x00 General discussions / Collie + Audio + 2gb Sd

I'm trying to figure out what to do with my 5500, and I'm sure your advice could help not only me but other people looking for a similar solution.

I frequently use otrplayer to listen to news downloads, and I'd like to upgrade my storage capacity to at least 2GB with a SD card. Based on the searching around I've done, I understand that my options are:

1.  Use a Sharp 3.13 ROM, modified for 2GB SD support.
PROS: 2GB SD, audio
CONS: distro is no longer active

2. OZ 3.5.4
PROS: 2GB SD (?), audio
CONS: distro is no longer active

3. Angstrom
PROS: 2GB SD, distro is under active development
CONS: no audio

Am I right about this? Any other options? Should I just go for 1 or 2 until Angstrom has audio for collie? Thanks for any tips.

Just go for either the first two. Sharp rom wise be aware you have tkcRom and Cacko Crow using it which also work well with that modified SD card driver. Angstrom is on it's first release so not particularly stable for collie users yet - just give the developers some time and i'm sure they will have the hardware working soon and we can finally move away from Methuselah's Kernel.

Thanks to help from people here i'm running tkcRom fine with a 2gb SD card. I tend to play large (up to 8 hours) mixes and tkcPlayer copes with that better. It still confuses the hell out of the seek bar though...

fbvnc server now working fine thanks to that tip. Teakettle shows me a picture but for some reason i'm only able to send vowels over the keyboard. Anyone else getting this?

Interesting. Using Keypebble i'm getting a white screen when connecting to an XP bod with RealVNC free version installed. I can view this from other boxes fine. I also have fb vnc server installed on the Z and I can see the screen. I don't however get keypresses or mouse clicks transmitted on the device. This is connecting over a CF ethernet card.

Tinkering with wayback machine - to be honest i've not thought about using that for software before although I'm not sure if i can pay for it easily using that. I did try something new as well - i got some email addys out of the whois info for the author's website and sent them a mail. It can't hurt.

I'm trying Milkytracker but I can't get it to start yet. It appears to need SDL so i'm installing that. I'll try it on the way to work tomorrow.

Just to add, I bought a 2gb sd card made by "Peak" today, and it works perfectly running it on tkcRom 2.0a3 using this new rom image. It ran straight out of the packaging as well. I've been happily blasting 8 hour trance mixes from it.

I found the Author's site here:

http://www.climov.com/zaurus/zeplayer/

The download link for it is to MyZaurus which redirects to Handango. Handango then tells me there are no entries for "ze" anything when I search for it there.

http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=256 links to Handango again, same issue.

http://www.elsix.org/index.php?w=project&p=205 links to Handango

http://zsi2.stonekeep.com/index.php?v=d&a=256 404 error

http://www.handheld-linux.com/swi/showdetail.php?app=256 links to Handango

http://www.jrandomhacker.info/Zaurus_software links to climov.com at the top of this list.

Repeat ad nausium for pretty much all the google search variants i've done with different switches and options to try and narrow it down. They all either link to climov or, more commonly, the Handango redirect. I was kinda hoping the author was a poster on here and would pop up saying "please send beer tokens here, i'll mail you the app" but alas my dream was not to be...

I'm guessing my ramblings and numerous noob info requests are getting a bit much for a slow moving forum but it isn't like i've not searched for the data both here and using google first.

Greets,

While nosing around for apps I discovered a tracker style music player called Ze player that would be really good to have. Annoyingly the link to buy it is dead and the author has no contact information. Does anyone know where I can get it from?

5x00 Hardware / Serial Devices

Hi,

AFAIK, the port circuitry is the same as the cxx0 series... They are LVTTL (0-3.3V) signal levels... You will need a max3232 IC level convertor or similar to communicate with standard RS232 devices and not to fry your Z. There are circuits around on the forum / wiki I think as well....

Good luck! It's definitely doable from personal experience.

OK I have a serial cable for my 6310i coming in the post now, i'll see what I can do with that.

Sharp ROMs / 3.13 Based Roms And Time Zones.
« on: August 09, 2007, 07:57:26 am »
Greetings,

Is there any way to open up the restrictions on time zone introduced in the sharp 3.10 rom? I don't know if this is a kernel or a qtopia limitation so I thought i'd ask as it is also apparent in the Kompany rom. Ideally i'd like to be able to work in GMT and not CET (Oslo) which is my nearest available time zone.

5x00 Hardware / Serial Devices
« on: August 09, 2007, 07:54:23 am »
Greetings,

I am intending to experiment with serial on the SL5500. I read the thread on creating the serial console cable but have also seen people connecting serual devices such as GPS units straight in. I am guessing that the console cable has some kind of null modem that is not required for connecting other serial devices. I am wondering if I made up a lead with the sharp connector on one end and a male 9 pin D on the other, and wire up to match pins using the zaurus pinout PDF, whether I could plug normal serial devices such as GPS, modems, GPRS phones and other things that speak rs-232 without requiring additional circuitry. Could someone please clarify?

5x00 Hardware / Lookiing For Wpa Supported Wifi Cf Card That Works
« on: August 07, 2007, 01:01:10 am »
So do I. I just smoked my wifi card and need another. I might as well get a model I know will support WPA.

I gather there is a way to do it with a prism2.5 but you have to load some kind of firmware to the card before it will work. I'm not sure of the specifics. Hopefully someone on here can elaborate.

Hi,

You can find applications removed from tkc rom 2.0 here

Hope this helps
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Thanks, Downloading it now. I'll still do the rehost as someone like me might find this thread later on.

Ed - Rehosted, I'll add the other image files I used too later.

Thanks for the tip - I do not yet have an SD card that big but MP3s are now playing back much smoother with the faster driver. It also keeps my options open for later SD card upgrades.

I stuck the Koffice PIM apps on but it does not appear these pick up information from the standard Zaurus sync (which seems to work perfectly but I don't have the apps to read it). I presume there is no way to get these two systems to talk and you have to use opensync for the Koffice apps which won't work with my company issue 'doze box.

I still need the applications as I could use a browser as I notice that is also removed from this rom. Aside from that everything seems to be peachy with it. I also hope the old media player is included as OTRplayer is a little bit pants. I might break the bank and spring for the Kompany one later. I'll also rehost it as it appears noone else is hosting it right now.

I PMed you my email addresses earlier but if that doesn't work you can DCC me on IRC. You should find me on Rizon as ME-tan_ and I have autoaccept on. If this doesn't work out i'll see if I can organise a SFTP session for you.

Sharp ROMs / Tck Rom Applications.tar.gz
« on: August 04, 2007, 11:58:01 am »
Greetings,

I'm currently running a sharp 3.10 rom on a sl5500. I'm using PIM applications syncing to my work windoze/outbreak machine using Intellisync but would like to get working WPA and possibly bluetooth and mobile internet working on it. I've been experimenting with several roms of late

OZ Opie- can't get it to sync and can't see where the inbox app is.

The Kompany rom. Interesting but the PIM apps were removed and packaged into a file referred to as applications.tar.gz. It is hosted on ZUG whose download section no longer works. I've managed to find the Alpha 3 rom images by searching this forum but I cannot find the applications archive that goes with it. Does anyone here have that file?
