The same thing happened to me when I was trying to download the updated ROM but Tech Supp helped me get it back.  Don\'t worry.  It\'s still there!  I eventually tried the update again and it worked perfectly.  In fact, I was having continual syncing problems until I got the new ROM.  I have had NO problems since then.

General Discussion / sync problems (like everyone else)

Have you tried updating the ROM?  I got my SL-5500 last September and I had continual problems with syncing on my desktop.  I called Tech Supp regularly and generally had to reboot about every third time I tried to sync.  Eventually it quit syncing completely and Tech Supp told me to reload the drivers.  When I did that, my entire Windows XP went nuts and I had to do a System Restore just to get my computer to work so I gave up for several months.  Last month I bought a laptop (still with WinXP) and decided to try it there.  It didn\'t sync well.  I downloaded the updated Qtopia and updated ROM and loaded it onto the SL-5500 and it now works perfectly.  I still cannot load the drivers on my desktop -which also has WinXP.  I have no idea why it wouldn\'t work on that computer and neither did Tech Supp but it looks like the updated ROM and Q-software did the trick.

Simon, I finally got around to following your instructions and so far everything seems to be working perfectly!  Thank you so much!  I haven\'t yet updated the drivers and sync software as you suggested.  I\'m a little nervous of doing anything when it\'s working now.  But I may try that too.  You are a prince!

Accessories / Problem with WinXP

I have had trouble synching and when I call the Sharp helpline, they have me install the driver manually.  Apparently, it doesn\'t load automatically for some reason.  As soon as I load the driver, everything goes bad and I have to do a system restore to get it back.  They told me that they would have someone call me but they never did.  I don\'t use Outlook so I can only use the Qtopia (I guess) for synching.  I don\'t know what ROM.  Whatever came with it.  I think I may have bought more technology than I am capable of mastering.  This has been very frustrating.  When I read the message boards hoping to find an answer, I usually have no idea what everyone is talking about.  I want to use it wireless but I can\'t even get it to work by USB so I don\'t want to go and buy a CF card and find that I am still unable to load the software and use it for synching.

Accessories / Problem with WinXP

I have had a 5500 for about 6 months and I cannot use the sync feature because everytime I try to load the driver, it slows my computer to molasses speed and somehow prevents me from accessing the internet.  I use WinXP.  I have to do a system restore to get the desktop to function again.  No one at the help desk is able to help me.  Without the sync function, this gadget is only half what it should be.  Any thoughts?  BTW, I am not techie.
