Sharp ROMs / 5600 low on memory
« on: February 29, 2004, 04:13:58 pm »
oh, so tkcplayer has a memory leak!!, i was suspecting that. cause everytime i got this error tkcplayer was running!!. sometimes if it\'s running for a long time, and then close it, it can\'t start and stuff untill i reboot.

well i guess a reboot per few days is tolerable.

thx.

Sharp ROMs / 5600 low on memory

already done that on the todolist a couple of days ago, now no program has fast start. after i did that i haven\'t had this low on memory popup.

but for example now my Z undocked has 4775kb mem free 11MB cached!!. as soon as i dock it, my free memory drops to 700kb!! probably due to samba starting.

i don\'t know where all this memory is going.

thx.

Sharp ROMs / 5600 low on memory

i\'ve got a 5600 for 1.5 weeks now. i\'m using the standard pre-emptive kernel with no pxa workaround.
i also bought the tkcplayer for mp3s (the built in one sucks big time).
sometimes when i have tkcplayer, calender, and todolist running, i get an out of memory box which asks me which appliction to close!!.

i\'m trying to remove some servers running on my Z which i won\'t be using. Example, in top i see qtsamba taking around 8 MBs with 4MB resident when my Z is docked. since syncing with linux doesn\'t work on newer sharp roms, this samba server is useless, how can i keep it shutdown when i dock my Z ?

in fact i tried killing it, but it keeps respawning!!.

thx.

hi folks.

i have a new 5600, upgraded kernel to pre-emptive no pxa workaround kernel. my calender alarm works well.

problem is usually while i\'m working i listen to music via headphones, however sometimes i have to remove the headphones (like when i\'m on the phone), during that period if the calander alarm is triggered, sound is sent to headphones only, and so i miss it!.

is there a way to make only calender alarms to come out of built in speaker and headphone?

Thanks.

Linux Issues / network connectivity through usb?
« on: February 18, 2004, 03:18:50 pm »
hi folks.

just got the zaurus today. i\'ve set it up with my linux laptop with usb.
i can ping my zaurus now.
i changed the zaurus ip address to be 192.168.0.2 in the pc-link settings, usb0 on my laptop is 192.168.0.1. i configured NATing (masquarading) on my linux box.

problem is that i don\'t have a CF/SD card, neither a CF wireless/ethernet card. Since i don\'t have any of those then i can\'t install any ipk yet, so i don\'t have telnet/ssh servers yet on my Z. but i want to be able to browse the net over my usb0 and ftp/scp files over to my z to install them.

is there a way i can access my Z now over usb so i can setup networking in it?

Regards,
Fadi
