Did you build 1.8.1? Where can I find it? It doesn't seem to be in  the feed listed at the bottom of your message.

Thanks,
Kenroy

Cxx0 General discussions / 860 connection options in Tokyo
« on: October 24, 2004, 10:03:40 am »
I started using KWINS for PDA a few months ago and can say it's been worth the money so far. 14,000 yen for the CF card and 21,000 yen for a 12 month license (plus a free month in promotion). It works at many train/subway stations in town and you even get a global IP address! If you're OK with just a 128K always-on connection then it's a pretty good deal.

Mac Issues / Any get the Z recognized in VPC 6?

I feel so close to getting this to work, but I'm not quite there yet.

I want to get Qtopia Desktop to work with my Z C760, but I only use Macs.  I have VPC 6 with Win2000.  The very first time I plugged the Z in, Win2000 immediate recognized it was a Sharp Zaurus (thought it was a C860, though).

I installed the drivers and desktop.  I can tell VPC to let Windows control the "C860", but I cannot find the device listed in the hardware list nor does the Qt Desktop find it.

Has anyone gotten this to work?  How about with VPC 7?

Thanks
Curt
Curt, this one troubled me for some time until I realized that there was a conflict with the USB Networking driver from lucid-cake.net. If you have the driver installed, unload it before launching VirtualPC:

Code: [Select]
sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/AJZaurusUSB.kext
You can reload the driver when you're done with VirtualPC:

Code: [Select]
sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/AJZaurusUSB.kext

Anybody get their Z to download/send their .mac mail?  I can download mail but not send.  Setting up my wireless connection was pretty easy.  I love the screen, makes my iPaq look like crap.  Anyway any pointers would be appreciated.
Works fine for me. It could just be yor ISP as mentioned here:

Software / What is the best Zaurus E-mail program?

does anybody know if there is a version of QtMail out there that allows AUTH SMTP? If yes I would be very happy to use this simple mailer. As it stands at the moment I do not have mobile mail and all the suggested apps here are to complicated for me :-(

The built-in mail program on the SL-C860 does AUTH SMTP.

Python / Running Python plus modules

Instead of running python-ide try using Visiscript. It has a nice built-in editor (Scintilla) and you can use it with different scripting languages.

General Discussion / More news about C960 ?
« on: May 30, 2004, 08:46:38 pm »
There may actually be some new products announced in June/July. Sharp has consistently announced new Zaurus models twice a year (June/July, Nov/Dec) since their first one back in \'94.

You could also take a look at Sylpheed and run it under XQt (http://xqt.sourceforge.jp/). It does POP3, IMAP4, NNTP (News) and SMTP AUTH. The version available on the XQt web site doesn\'t do IMAP over SSL but it can be re-compiled with SSL enabled.

Hong Kong / Buying SL-A300

forgot A300, that sucks.

low quality screen, little battery and very unusable keys/joystick keys, also  need adaptor to normal headphone connector.
Have only SD slot, for CF need buy addon jaket.

Actually, the A300 is an excellent PDA for the price. It\'s light-weight and REALLY fits in the pocket. It makes a great eBook reader, dictionary and with a program like TimeSleuth, it\'s great for time tracking. Battery life is quite good, the screen, while it\'s not like the CG Silicon screens on the more expensive models, is brighter than most other PDAs. I have been using the SL-A300 every day since it was released in August 2002 and have no regrets. It makes a great companion for one of the bulkier models like the SL-C860.

In short, I highly recommend the SL-A300.

Mac Issues / SMB share on Mac OS X with 5600
« on: May 17, 2004, 01:02:24 am »
Your desktop shows 23MB because that\'s the space available on your internal memory. The mapping for \"home\" in /usr/lib/samba/smb.conf is /home/samba which is located on internal memory. You can create another share that points to your CF card by editing smb.conf.

Software / StageOne Outliner on C860
« on: May 09, 2004, 11:40:28 am »
I have to agree with tg, StageOne is a great app and it works well on the SL-C860 in either portrait or landscape mode. The author has also added icon scaling for people like me that find the regular icons just a bit too small on the higher resolution displays like on the C860. Make sure you\'re using version 3.2.0 for the new features.
