C1000/3x00 General discussions / Blinking Battery Light And Shutdown
« on: November 10, 2005, 11:39:41 am »
I am not sure my Zaurus 5500 does the same thing, but won't boot, I am wondering if the shared implication of Sharp Zaurus was a flashing battery light means the battery has used its last charge and can't retain any power?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Opie-wordgame

Anyone know where the wordlist it creates is, or is it only temporary? Also does anyone know if it uses the DAWG for something more than just the game, it would be wonderful if it could be used as a spellcheck in some applications.

Sharp ROMs / Video Player Success stories
« on: December 08, 2004, 05:22:15 pm »
I am running 3.10 what I determined was that complicated/large decryption uses too much of the processor (MPEG2) slowing the video down making it seems like it freezes.

What I had success with was converting the video to MPEG1 and doing half sized screen, while using a Lexmark 4x CF Card for video.  It seems to run fairly smoothly for two minute length videos.  I am waiting til I get a GB CF card to see if I can pull off 40 or so minutes.

The problem with an SD Card is the default player doesn't stream/hold enough data ahead of time so you get skips.

Anyway hope this helps.

General Discussion / Ideal Custom Rom Sl-5500
« on: December 02, 2004, 11:55:47 am »
Now that I have identified what I use most on my Zaurus.  I guess the next thing I need to do is choose/build a rom, or perhaps someone has already done something close to what I want.  So I am curious if folks can make recommendations either of a rom or what application I should put on the Z.

The basics
SL5500 Currently Using 256MB SD & CF, which commonly get removed, the device preferably needs to work without the memory installed.

Starting from most important feature to least here is what I have in mind.

1st Mp3 Player Ideally should also play WAV, MPG, OGG and possibly Midi and should have power save functions so it can play for hours. It would also be nice to move forward and back through the song while its playing.
2nd Address Book should be able to Synchronize data with W98 PC, Calendar functions less important this is the main reason I run it w/o CF/SD in.
3rd Spreadsheet (able to read/Edit/Save Excel files) & Text Editor
4th Image Pad allows Editing and save of pictures in a readable format for other programs.
5th Web Browsing including standard Graphics (PDF less important but helpful)
6th File Transfers between W98 PC (eventually Linux) without removing cards.
7th  Something to play games, though I find myself doing this least often don’t know if it should be Java only?.

So those are my requests any suggestions?

Accessories / Battery Extender Question
« on: March 11, 2004, 03:29:52 am »
I purchased both of the Sempsons power extenders (one has a USB).  The only major difference I determined was the profile.  This really is a simple device a handy person could easily create it.  Basically you use four ni-mh batteries to generate 4.8v (just under 5) that power goes through an adapter plug to the Z\'s battery.
Sure enough it basically charges the battery.  The thing I noticed though is the Z gets sort of confused when you aren\'t giving it the 5v so it may switch modes, battery, adapter back and forth so lighting gets weird if you have different settings. The USB one has a belt clip and a slide removable for the batteries as well as a smaller wire guage the smaller one has uses a screw to hold in the batteries and a standard adapter length.  So far I am good that I have both and paid under 30$ for them, well worth it.

General Discussion / FDISK yet again
« on: March 04, 2004, 12:12:04 pm »
It seems like FDISK may solve my Lexar 64MB CF woes, the trick is I can\'t find any version that will successfully work with the new Zaurus rom base,  I keep getting error messages that say \"The extract of some files are failed.  This application may not execute normally...\"  And sure enough it does not execute at all when I try to go into terminal and su.  Can\'t even find where the files are.

I am seriously pondering installing one of the roms that have FDISK on the base, but this means a serious amount of time.  Any other ideas from the gallery, before I attempt a dramatic action just to hopefully fix a CF card?
