Angstrom & OpenZaurus / OZ 3.3.5 & WLAN with WEP on a 5500
« on: September 22, 2004, 01:01:35 pm »
Thanks for the tips!!  Kinda got worried when ipdown/ipup wasn't working and didn't even exist till I figured it must be ifdown/ifup

Still doesnt work as the card detects the airport base station but cant seem to connect. But at least now I know about the iwconfig.

Okay thanks for that information!! One last question, how do I restart the interface?  do I use /etc/init.d/networking restart?

Hi there folks,

I recently installed 3.3.5 on my 5500 (congrats to the OZ team on a very cool project) and was wondering how I access a WAP with password protection?  Reason being is that at home my WAP is open so I've never had to worry about configuring the MA701 for security but at work we use a password based airport system. I've enabled WEP under the network configure and set the password under the key setting but to no avail   Am I doing something totally wrong with the setup?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / input/output error with SD using 3.3.6pre1

Oh yeah, before I forget I did try OZ3.3.2 and OZ3.3.5 roms and they all did the same thing.

Oh well since no one replied to this I might as well reply to myself here

I was wrong, it was not a PNY card but an Impact brand SD card (I have no idea where I got the idea it was a PNY...weird!!)

Anyhoo, this is what I ended up doing after searching on this forum about other people having similar problems with SD cards:

I re-formatted the card as vfat and thought that it would be best to stick with the original format it came with and just manually create symlinks from apps installed onto the SD card.
This kinda sucked.....as it was a pain to have to go through the task of installing apps, create symlinks...rinse and repeat (Not for every app though).
So I decided to give ext2 format another go on the SD card. But alas, the same problem as before. Shutoff the Z, turn it back on and SD card appears corrupt. Bugger this I thought, lets try the tkcrom.
Back to the tkcromV2alpha3 I go after 3 months using OZ, and surprise surprise....the SD card works fine when you poweroff the Z and power it back on although I noticed that everynow and then when I turn the Z on, it thinks the SD card has been ejected so will report it as so, then it thinks the SD card has been inserted and re-mounts it.
Even though now I use the tkcrom with the Opie apps, it would be nice to go back to OZ mainly because of the way it handles memory.

Is there a difference in the way the sharp based rom handles SD/MMC cards compared to the OZ roms?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / input/output error with SD using 3.3.6pre1

Hello,

Since installing 3.3.6pre1 from 3.3.5 I\'ve had problems with my 128MB PNY SD card. It is formatted as ext2 and has been for quite some time and now everytime I turn the 5500 on I have to reboot it to get the SD card to work because none of the apps installed to it can be found and when using a terminal, I can view the contents of the SD card fine but each listing comes up as \'input/output error\'.
When I reboot the problem is fixed, until I turn the zaurus off and on and I have to reboot again.

Would this be a problem with the sd card itself maybe?  It did have a similar problem with 3.3.5 but was quite rare.

Thats a good point with the serial version. Plus with the serial version, it also leaves you to use the CF card to store maps etc...   Just thought of that actually...
