actually its all in a 70k zip file

http://trisoft.de/en_c3200howto.htm
scroll down to "Restore the harddisk"

instructions are inside the zip file.

Hi, thanks for that but been there and done that but that just gives me the correct file structure. I picked up a Japanese brochure when I was last in Japan which described TONS of software thats supposed to be on the internal hard drive. Mostly language learning tools to learn english.

That's what I'm after. My wife is learning English and I'm learning Japanese

In my quest to restore my C3200 to it's original factory state I would like to get my hands on the contents of the internal hard drive. I understand this is a whopping 4gb but I would be happy to pay for postage, the dvd and time it takes to send it to me.

Anyone?

Are the CF cards < 1GB and formatted as FAT?

I have a 1gb card and a 8gb card, both worked before, formated as fat.

Just walked up to a nice old win2k machine I have, formated the card as FAT16, copied the file back on and tried NAND restore and only difference now is that it takes longer before I get the error message saying "not exist file".

I also tried backing up the present nand, just to see if the zaurus would talk to the cf card and I get an error claiming there is no free space.

I was thinking maybe the card is fried but it works fine on Mac, wink2k and winxp

UPDATE:
I had a 512mb card which seems to be working ok, weird as I have used the 1gb one before.... Go figure.

Not used my C3200 for a while and when I tried to switch it on I found it was dead...

The FN + D + M method got my into the diagnostic screen and everything there seems fine, trying to do a NAND restore now in the hope that will fix the problems I'm having but it claims there is no SYSC3200.DBK on my CF card (there is) and when I go into the testing menus to see if I can read or write to the CF card I get an error claiming there is no free space (there is plenty). I have tried 2 CF cards and both the same result but the CF card will mount just fine on both Mac and Windows computers.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

I thought there was more to it than just setting the locale.  I've already flashed it so I can't really check now, but I thought there were a couple other tweaks done, unless I'm thinking of Cacko.

I'm now also curious about Conics' option to provide provide an "English setup and retain Japanese" for an additional fee.

If  you have the Sharp ROM the difference between Japanese and English is a simple setting in locale.conf

I don't want to put down the Conics product because I know nothing about it. If you only adjust the locale, there are many things you can do to make it a bit nicer:

You can add English help files that don't come with the ROM by default and you can remove the input methods for Japanese. For example, when you are adding a postal code in an address in the QT address book automatically a special number input method pops up but it's designed for Japanese postal codes.

There are a couple of translation files that are missing I think, media player perhaps ?

Finally, the categories database has hard coded "business" and "personal" options but written in katakana. It's possible they modified the ROM with recompiled apps so those are removed.

Conics has several ROM backups available here:
http://downloads.conics.net/pda/zaurus-sl-...iginal-backups/

My problem is that even after using any of the C3200 roms from the Conics page I still get the HDD1 Error. I have followed the instructions from the TRIsoft webpage on how to restore the HD here: http://www.trisoft.de/en_c3200howto.htm  but still no joy.

Is there no one who can help?

PS
I have also tried the TRISoft nand backup, same result so something must be wrong with the way the HD is done.

I found a GREAT walk trough here: http://figlabs.com/restore/ and now have a fully working Zaurus with original software in Japanese

Thought I would put the update here as the above link was not easy to find.

So I did a NAND restore using "SL-C3200-ENG-NAND-original.zip"

I erased the HD, created 3 partitions with fdisk, formated the partitions, created .sys directories and copied all the files per instructions in the "SLC3200SYSPART.zip".

But still get "HDD1 Error!!" when restarting.

HELP

Hi Guys.

I have followed the instructions from the TRISoft howto restore HD to the letter but still getting the dreaded HDD1 Error!!

Just to sum up, I wiped the drive, used fdisk to make 3 primary partitions, formated them as instructed, created .sys dir's on hda1 and hda2 and copied the files into them. Still getting a HDD1 Error!!

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I read on one of the threads that pressing CTRL+C+D will bypass the HDD1 Error!!  but when I do the Z simply counts from 5 to 0 and reboots.

at least, with this expirience, i know down the road, i can remove the internal hardrive and replace it.  I know how to setup the 3 partitions and format them.  I also know how to copy the files into the appropriate locations.

I know this is an old thread but here goes anyways.

I have done exactly the same thing but still get HDD1 Error!!

So I have a fresh flashed nand, 3 partitions, formated with the files that need to be there but still no go.

I have erased my internal HD and did a nand restore, I know how to get into the command line mode and know I should be using fdisk to create:

/dev/hda1  Start 1  End 20  Blocks 10048+  id 83 System Linux
/dev/hda2  Start 21 End 40  Blocks 10080  id 83 System Linux
/dev/hda3  Start 41 End 11905 Blocks 5979960 id c System Win95 FAT32 (LBA)

Only thing I can not figure out is how I can do this, can anyone help?

As far as the MicroDrive, this page may have what you need:
http://trisoft.de/en_c3200howto.htm

Yeah found that, will do that first thing tomorrow but does that bring the original software back? If I understand correctly it came with tons of cool language tools... Or is that all in the small 130mb rom?

Sharp ROMs / Restoring Original Firmware On Z C3200
« on: November 28, 2007, 06:57:45 pm »
I bought a Z C3200 from eBay and found that the previous owner installed PDAX on it. Seeing I'm learning Japanese I wanted to restore the unit back to it's original software. Searching the forums here I found that I could download the original nand flash restore from the Conics website. After finding a CF card that works (the Zaurus seems to be picky about that) I now have flashed the rom and am stuck!

The Zaurus starts with the bootscreen but then gives me a message that there is a HD failure. I guess I somehow have to restore the HD as well but no idea how I can do this or where I can get the original software.

Can anyone here point me in the right direction???

Many thanks from a Zaurus newby.
