Software / Opie-addressbook Vs Couples Birthdays & Anniversar
« on: April 25, 2006, 12:23:09 pm »
How do you enter the information for a couple into your opie-addressbook so that their individual birthdays and joint anniversary appear in opie-datebook?  Do you have one entry per person?  I found that if I have an entry per couple, then only one of them gets a birthday and it appears in opie-addressbook as the birthday of the couple.  I haven't found any other way than one entry per person.

No idea. Could it have something to do with the size of your addressbook?

The addressbook is 158759 bytes.  It's not that big.  It's stored in the default place, /home/root/Applications/addressbook/addressbook.xml.  /home/root is in the collie's internal flash.

Software / Opie-addressbook Slow To Exit

I'm running Opie 1.2 on OpenZaurus 3.5.3-r21 on my collie.  It takes opie-addressbook forever to exit when I press the exit button.  Why is that?

OpenZaurus/Opie/Qtopia / Qmake For Oz

If you do 'bitbake opie-camera' it will build the deps for you (including Qmake).

Thanks.  Yes, I understand that.

I didn't make the context clear, I guess.  I'm building opie-camera on my Zaurus.  I shouldn't have to build the libraries that  my Zaurus already has.  Surely there is an OZ ipkg that contains qmake.

I wouldn't mind  building the libraries but it takes my collie over three hours to process all the bitbake files, even with the cache.

Please tell me which OZ package contains qmake.

I'm setting up my OZ 3.5.3 Collie to compile OZ apps.  I have the development tools installed on a drive that my Collie mounts over the home network.  In my attempt to compile opie-camera

Code: [Select]
./bin/bitbake -b ../org.openembedded.dev/packages/opie-camera/opie-camera_1.2.1.bb
the Collie successfully grabs stuff out of CVS and unpacks tarballs.  Then it gets to the task do_configure.  do_configure fails because bb can't find qmake.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Ipkg-link Why?
« on: October 24, 2005, 06:20:28 pm »
Well, I tried it.  The results were mixed.  You can edit LD_LIBRARY_PATH in /etc/init.d/opie.  You can edit PATH in /etc/init.d/opie and /etc/profile.d/opie_defaults.  Reboot OZ and Opie won't find applications on PATH.  You can start those apps in a shell but they don't get any of their icons and other shiny bits.

I see now that lardman is right.  Opie expects pictures and such in one place.  What a shame.

The answer is either to change Opie so it looks in a PATH-like environment variable for pictures and what not or to use that unionfs mentioned above.

What you propose would be possible, but you'd also need to alter the value of the PATH envvar every time external media was inserted (not a major issue admittedly), so that things installed to /mnt/cf/usr/bin (etc.) would be picked up.

Why change PATH every time you mount new media?  As long as you follow the convention of installing to ${MEDIAROOT}/packages, you can predict the directories that have to be in PATH.  Just append them to the end of PATH once.  E.g. If you have a bunch of SD cards with apps on them, add /media/card/packages/opt/QtPalmtop/bin to PATH.

I'm guessing, but couldn't you add nearly the same information to /etc/ld.so.conf?  E.g. for the SD cards, add /media/card/packages/opt/QtPalmtop/lib to /etc/ld.so.conf.

Is that enough to make Opie find everything?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Jeode/java On Oz 3.5.3 + Opie
« on: June 05, 2005, 10:18:01 am »
It's working for me.  Install the Sharp compatibility library.  Make a shell script for your Java application.  Run makecompat on the shell script.  Then invoke the shell script.  All makecompat does is to put a the path to the Sharp library in your LD_LIBRARY_PATH and create a symbolic link to some file that evm, the Java interpreter, needs before it invokes your original script.  You can make a shell script that includes all that and skip running makecompat.

There's a thread or two about this around somewhere.  "Search" is your friend.

Software / Kde-pim/pi 2.1.0 Available!
« on: June 02, 2005, 04:42:30 pm »
Hi.  Anyone here have a list of the QCOP messages that KO/Pi and KA/Pi respond to?  I know they respond to raise().  I'm looking for ones that make KO/Pi show a particular piece of itself like the journal or the New Event dialog and ones that make KA/Pi do things like beam my contact info.

I'd like to assign some of these messages to the buttons on my 5500.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Screen Won't Redraw After Resume
« on: May 25, 2005, 12:47:57 pm »
Well, I solved the problem using the standard shotgun approach: remove all entries from /home/root/Settings and reboot.  Now my collie redraws its screen on resume.

Software / Kde-pim/pi Qcop Messages
« on: May 25, 2005, 12:46:24 pm »
I'm looking for a list of the QCOP messages to which the Kde-pim/pi applications respond.

There are general ones here:
http://doc.trolltech.com/qtopia1.6/html/qcop.html
https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Sharp_...a_QCop_Messages

My motivation for this is to be able to control the Kde-pim/pi applications using the buttons on my collie.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Screen Won't Redraw After Resume
« on: May 23, 2005, 11:23:08 am »
I just upgraded my collie to 3.5.3.  When I use the Launcher to suspend and the Cancel/On/Off button to resume, my collie wakes up but does not redraw the screen.  If I press the Home button, the screen is redrawn except for the taskbar.  If I press the stylus where the running application icons should be, that part gets redrawn.  Same thing when I press where multikey and the handwriting app should be.  The clock and cardmon applets redraw are redrawn but the other applets (notes, clipboard, kopialarm, power) aren't.  The Launcher's "O" icon isn't redrawn, either.

I've been all over the opie-users archives (which end on 19 November 2004) and all over the OZ part of OE Forums and I can't find the answer to this.

To answer my own question - I ordered mobile power pack from socketstore
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=73746\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Sweet!  I found it for about $116 including shipping on amazon.com.  I expect mine within the week.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=74298\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

The battery arrived on Monday.  I ran my Zaurus at work all day Tuesday, a bit on Tuesday night, and most of today before the battery's amber low voltage indicator began to blink.  I'm satisfied.

You need the 5v version. According to the original website, these are customizable

Doh!  Of course, you're right.  Thanks for pointing that out.
