Zaurus - Hardware discussion / SL-C31000 / Strange switch

Maybe a long shot, but the switch could be isolating the battery, allowing a hard reset without taking out the battery. Can you try to run the Zaurus while on battery only and then toggle the switch ?
If that is not it, maybe worth dismantling the Zaurus to see what it actually does, I am quite curious. There is a picture guide somewhere in this forum that shows all the steps.
Zaurus is booting up into Kexecboot without PSU attached, regardless the position of the switch.
Maybe I will dismantle the device in the future, but for the moment I plan to install a system on it first.
This will also give a good chance to see what happens to the system when toggling the switch.

Rgds,
Stefan

The switch does not seem to do anything!
I tested memory/CF/SD/HDD/internal buzzer/external sound with service menu "D+M".
It does not make any difference; regardless the position of the switch.

Hi All,

I do have a SL-C3200 with Angstom / kexecboot.
It boots a pdaxii13 V5.4.9 and 2 x Debian.
Is it save to switch to 4.4.18 kexexcboot without the risc of losing the systems?

Rgds,
Stefan
I believe it should not interfere with all your installed systems, since you already have an older kexecboot installed. You might want to backup any ROM you have on the internal flash (pdaxii) just in case.
Is the 4.4.18 kexec the one from Arch Linux ARM? It uses an Arch Linux logo; since you don't have Arch Linux installed, you might want to use a kexec from the LinuxPDA site which uses a generic kexec logo,  although it is based on an older kernel version: https://github.com/LinuxPDA/linux-kexecboot

Note: duplicated thread removed.

Hello Varti,

I wanted to use kexecboot "LinuxPDA" with logo "openembedded".
Tried it, and it is working fine with all of my systems selectable.

Thanks for your advice!

Stefan

Hello All!

Another question regarding my new SL-C3100.
Please have a look at the device:

I never saw such a switch on a Zaurus before.
What might be the purpose of this switch?
Any ideas?

Stefan

Zaurus - Hardware discussion / SL-C3100 Zaurus HDD Check
« on: February 01, 2020, 05:51:59 pm »
Hello All!

Recently I bought a SL-C3100 from Japan on eBay.
According to the description the internal 4GB drive is faulty and the device is not booting up.
After inserting a new battery and a reset it's back to life now.
It also came witch an additional 4GB Microdrive.

To be sure the internal drive is faulty, I entered "D+M" setup and started "HDD Check".
Does anybody know, what the "BANK_X" values mean?
Maybe it is the reliability of the sectors?
BTW: Test of the HDD resulted "OK!"

Stefan

I hope there are still some of you out there using it. It would be really good to know if you are.
After all this years I am still a big fan of SHARP/Zaurus and cant't wait to see new developments to come up.
Glad to see, OESF is alive and back again!
Glad to see you back  Stefan ! I'm also still a Zaurus fan, and others too here.

Congrats for your Zaurii collection, really impressive! Have you bought them on the japanese Yahoo Auction site, or have you managed to find all of them locally?

Varti
Hello Varti,
I purchased most of my Zaurus-Devices step by step through eBay over the last 10+ years.
Nowadays it is more and more difficult to get hands on moderate priced Zauries.
But some Zauries are still advertised to be broken, even they are easily to be repaired. :-)

In the other side, SHARP CE/PC-xxxx are offered a lot on Japanese Auction-Sites like "buyee.jp".
It seems Zaurus-Devices are not very popular in Japan!

Sharp ROMs / Jeode stops working
« on: August 05, 2008, 09:59:29 am »
After I got the same "Segmentation fault" problem with EVM and OPERA I found out that libjpeg.so.62 is causing the problem.
When installing e.g. <libjpeg_6b-0_arm.ipk> or <libjpeg_6b-1_arm.ipk> the original link to libjpeg.so.62 is overwritten to the new faulty version.
To get back to a functional system you have to link back to the original Cacko libraries:

>su
>ln-sf /usr/QtPalmtop.rom/lib/libjpeg.so.62 /opt/QtPalmtop/lib/libjpeg.so.62.0.0
>ldconfig

That's it!

Rgds,
Stefan
