SIMpad forum / New Rdesktop Version
« on: June 07, 2008, 05:07:51 pm »
all,
just to inform you that since a month there is a new version of rdesktop, 1.6.0.
This is essential as the latest rdesktop package in the official feeds is 1.5.0.
With 1.5.0, rdesktop always fails after a few seconds or minutes.
You can easily modify the existing .bb file to build it. For "simple" users, I attached the ipk.

SIMpad forum / Angstrom 2007.12-r14 - No Wpa Connection
« on: June 07, 2008, 04:52:10 pm »
used firmware:
with the r15, it works immediately without any changes with the included firmware 1.7.4, located in /lib/firmware. It seems that there is an automated firmware update mechanism for this.
with r14, I had to do the update manually, there I used a 1.8.4.

Still a problems remains: After a reset, the wifi card usually does not work, so I have to manually plug the card out and in again.
Same happens often when I go to sleep mode.
I will further investigate here, if time permits.
Does reset and sleep work with your cards?? e.g. Siemens card?

one more thing, mr_nice,
can you send the wpa_supplicant fix (sed -n, see r15 thread) to the angstrom code base, I have no clue how to do it.

I can confirm that Netgear MA401 is working with WPA in release r14 as well as r15.
My only problem was my outdated prism firmware. After updating it with the prism2_srec command it works very well.

SIMpad forum / [simpad] Angstrom New Testing Images Xxx-r15 ...
« on: June 04, 2008, 08:48:45 am »

I will try to test it tomorrow ... hoping the wpa configuration error of r14  is solved ...
WPA is working with my Netgear 401 card almost out of the box.
I just modified /etc/network/interfaces and  /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf according to my needs and then did insert the card and it worked immediately.
I still got the sed: ivalid option failure. Sed ist called by ifupdown.sh. It can be easily fixed by replacing the sed option --quiet with -n (for busybox sed as well as GNU sed).
btw, just the day before I also got WPA working with the r14 release by using simply a newer firmware.

Thanks for the direct link to the home-partition howto. I applied it and now (after a fresh full x11 r15 image) I've 13MB+ free disk! Excellent!

Angstrom-x11-image-glibc-ipk-2007.12-r14-simpad.rootfs.jffs2
from http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/relea.../images/simpad/
After I installed the gpe-minibrowser I had about 2 or 3 MB free space on the root partition.
That seems to be ok. Without anything installed, I have ~5.4 MB free.
But I'm now wondering as well, because my used space is shown as 19 MB used. Where the missing 8 MB??? I slowly remember I read someting about another 8 MB partition that is reserved for something but can be modified to be used as part of the root partition.
Can you investigate here?

Do I have to by a cf-card to use Angström, or are the 64mb enougth for a Browser, Pim etc (a set of tools like in win-ce)
You have 64 MB FLASH?
Solve the lost 8 MB problem and you have 10+ MB left for your apps. If you still need more, better go for a cf.

I also have a Netgear MA401 and I can confirm that it does WPA with even a 2.4 kernel, namely the familiar 0.8.4 + this.
My next step is to get it working with Angstrom, too. Good to see that I'm not alone.

SIMpad forum / Wpa With Familiar 0.8.4 & Opie 2.7 On Sl4

What I've found is that WPA in familiar 0.84 is way too old to work properly. Using the same config on a Zaurus CL-1000 (running openzaurus) and on a simpad, I can connect without problems to my WPA-PSK network with the Zaurus, while the Simpad just won't connect, no mather what I try.
Maybe next version will have a updated wpa_supplicant

yeah, pretty old thread. Still, people may read it in hope to find an answer.
I can confirm WPA is not working by default (who knows why) but there is a solution (at least for Prism / hostap) described at HowToUseWPA.
Thanks so much for this instructions to the unknown author.

SIMpad forum / Problems To Build Stable Angstrom For Simpad
« on: May 26, 2008, 12:21:28 pm »
Hi all,
after a lot of frustration with only half-working Wifi/WPA stuff on my Simpad, I decided to improve instead of complaining.
So, my first task was to build the stable 2007.12-r14. I finally made it, however I took me days because I faced a lot of "dependency problems".
I would like to understand if this was a "local" problem by myself or if this is a common problem.
the "bitbake base-image" failed a lot of time with messages like
ERROR: Task 362 (/OE/org.openembedded.stable/packages/zlib/zlib-native_1.2.3.bb, do_fetch) failed
NOTE: Tasks Summary: Attempted 108 tasks of which 108 didn't need to be rerun and 1 failed.

On different packages, on different do_xxx states.
The same failed package could however be build by doing a direct bitbake -b failed_module.bb
In the end I could only build it in one run if I executed the following order:

bitbake -b /OE/org.openembedded.stable/packages/shasum/shasum-native.bb
bitbake -b /OE/org.openembedded.stable/packages/quilt/quilt-native_0.45.bb
bitbake -b /OE/org.openembedded.stable/packages/gnu-config/gnu-config-native_20050701.bb
bitbake -b /OE/org.openembedded.stable/packages/m4/m4-native_1.4.8.bb
bitbake -b /OE/org.openembedded.stable/packages/autoconf/autoconf-native_2.61.bb
bitbake -b /OE/org.openembedded.stable/packages/automake/automake-native_1.9.6.bb
bitbake -b /OE/org.openembedded.stable/packages/libtool/libtool-native_1.5.10.bb
bitbake -b /OE/org.openembedded.stable/packages/gettext/gettext-native_0.14.1.bb
bitbake -b /OE/org.openembedded.stable/packages/bison/bison-native_2.0.bb
bitbake -b /OE/org.openembedded.stable/packages/flex/flex-native_2.5.31.bb
bitbake -b /OE/org.openembedded.stable/packages/binutils/binutils-cross_2.18.bb
bitbake -b /OE/org.openembedded.stable/packages/zlib/zlib-native_1.2.3.bb
bitbake -b /OE/org.openembedded.stable/packages/unifdef/unifdef-native_2.6.18+git.bb
bitbake -b /OE/org.openembedded.stable/packages/gcc/gcc-cross-initial_4.1.2.bb
bitbake -b /OE/org.openembedded.stable/packages/ipkg/ipkg-native_0.99.163.bb
bitbake -b /OE/org.openembedded.stable/packages/ipkg-utils/ipkg-utils-native_1.6+cvs20050404.bb
bitbake -b /OE/org.openembedded.stable/packages/linux-libc-headers/linux-libc-headers_2.6.20.bb
bitbake -b /OE/org.openembedded.stable/packages/glibc/glibc-intermediate_2.5.bb
bitbake base-image

Besides a few similar problems with shasum, I couldn't find similar reports in the web.

As said, I could finally build all images, but I want to understand if there is probably a bigger issue behind that could later cause other problems as well.
So tell me: Do you know this problem or do you have any indication what this could be?
Is this anyway the right forum to ask or should I go to Angstrom / OE mailing list? Will they stone me for such questions?

Thx, hafu

I installed Angström successfully and then ...

What image (exactly the name) did you install? Where from?

Greetings
