Thank you for the tips.  I have a 5500 by the way.  It did not ask to add to my address book nor did a "add to files" button appear (at least I don't think it did).

The file name was given.  I will try checking in the tmp directory.

Thanks.

I've checked the usual document folders.  It may not have worked after all.  Is there any way to do a global search for the file?

Thanks.

I was on an airplane Monday and a fellow passenger decided to beam me an address (vcard I think) from her toshiba pocket pc.  I've never beamed anything before, and so we tried it.  The utility on the Z said I received the file, but I could not locate it.  My fellow passenger thought that the information should automatically go into my address book, but it has not appeared.

Any thoughts.  The beam thing is cool and I might want to try it again.

Thanks.

5x00 General discussions / Rebooting
« on: June 15, 2004, 10:05:07 am »
I had a similar problem, and in fact still do.  In my case, it clearly started one day when I put some small change and my 5500 in my pocket at the same time.  Twice in that day the 5500 blanked out.  the second time I found a dime wedged inthe serial port at the bottom of the unit.  It has happened one other time as well in one of my dresser drawers.  I think the serial port came in contact with a pair of socks that may have been staticky (sp), but I\'m not sure.  It is frustrating to lose all your contacts and programs, but I keep a backup on a SD card and can restore in a matter of seconds.

Still stinks, though.

5x00 General discussions / Z5500 battery meter issues
« on: May 30, 2004, 11:25:39 am »
My 5500 (sharp rom 3.1) goes about 3 to 4 days between charging.  I generaly use it for spreadsheet (expense logging, weightwatchers) and contacts.  The battery lasts about 1 to 1.5 hours using WIFI.  And the battery meter works (or doesn\'t) as was described.  Basically,  it jumps straight to low-power warning.

Accessories / car power supply for 5500
« on: May 28, 2004, 10:59:25 am »
I have one of these adjustable car power adapters.  I think it was meant for portable CD players and the like.  Is this something that would be safe to run my 5500 on?

5x00 Hardware / suggestions for cheapest (!) WiFi card for 5500
« on: May 28, 2004, 09:48:39 am »
I use a NetGear MA701.  It worked right out of the box.  It logs in to an old 3com wireless gateway just fine.  I\'ve also taken it on the road, and it connects with the networks in motels just fine.  It drains batteries fairly quickly, but I gather thats a problem for many wi-fi compact flash cards.

I bought mine off of Amazon, but I see them all the time on EBAY.

5x00 Hardware / Shorting out the memory on 5500
« on: May 26, 2004, 09:21:26 pm »
had something strange happen today.  I\'ve had my 5500 for about 4 months now.  Today I messed up my usual pocket routine in the morning and stuck my Z in my pocket with loose change.  Later in the day, I noticed that all of the installed programs (Qpdf, hancom office stuff, email settings) were gone.  Anything not in the Sharp ROM (3.1)  vanished following an unexpected reboot.  I restored from a backup and all was well untill later in the day.  I took it out of my pocket again at home and found a dime stuck in ther serial interface at the bottom.  The memory was blank once again.  Can i assume the dime is somehow responsible or is somethng more sinister possibly afoot?

Thanks.
