C1000/3x00 General discussions / C3200 Cf Wireless Card
« on: October 26, 2008, 08:30:27 pm »
Thanks for the responses guys.

Ok, well, both sharp and the planex site list those cards as compatible.
How can you tell if the card is based on Prism?  The Japanese descriptions don't list the word, but I really don't know what I'm looking for....

C1000/3x00 General discussions / C3200 Cf Wireless Card
« on: October 25, 2008, 08:57:35 am »
Hi guys, long time no See!

So, I'm trying to get wireless set up at my house, and I have been looking for a wireless card for my Zaurus.
I checked the Sharp page listing compatible cards, here, and the only ones on the list I can find on Japanese sites are the Planex GW-CF11H and GW-CF11X.  Does anyone know about these cards?  Are they actually compatible out of the box, and do they give good performance?

I'm running Sharp Rom with the English mod posted around here somewhere...

If anyone has adive about other cards, I'm all ears.  I want as little futzing around with configuration as possible...Plug-and-play is the watchword.
Are there any USB wi-fi adapters that work?  Or any other solution?

Thanks,
Jim

Software / Bedic Format Description And Sample

The .dz files are modified gzip files; gzip specifies how to add headers so you can have a custom archive with uncompressed meta data. If you do a gzip -d you'll probably extract the main archive but then that will still be bedic "raw" format not the simple format.

Don't forget to see http://www.lyndonhill.com/Projects/bedic-tips.html if you want to write your own dictionary.

What languages are you making ?

Well, at the moment I'm working on an Old English-Modern English dictionary.
The source is already finished, I just need to figure out the formattin--which, since I'm working with about 2000 pages of text, is no small things.
I'm learning lots of new stuff on the way, though.

Thanks for the help.  I really need it!

Links are still alive and well. I'll post some links at the bottom.

Yes, you can open  the dic.dz files (it's basically a tar archive with some additional stuff) with dictzip program or rename .dz to .gz and use an unzip program.

Use the latest simplified bedic format (created by rafm), not the original (although it is still supported).

Look at these links for more info:
Snip...

Thanks so much!
It looks like the problem I was having was that the links from
the bedic homepage point to the wrong addresses:
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/bedi....1&view=log
and
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/bedi....3&view=log

That's a lot of great info, kurochka.
I really appreciate it!

Software / Bedic Format Description And Sample

Hi there.  I'm trying to make a dictionary for bedic and I'm having some trouble getting the syntax right.
The links to bedic-format.txt and the example dictionary from the zbedic homepage aren't working; apparently the cvs.sourceforge.net domain is now gone, and those files are nowhere to be found.  I've tried searching this forum and some examples came up, but not really in-depth.  Would anyone have those files, or know where they are still available?

Also, once a dictionary is formatted into the dic.dz file, is there anyway to open it up and look at the actual construction of it?

Thanks for any help.

Software / Pdict?
« on: August 19, 2008, 11:15:44 pm »
I just acquired a copy of Eijiro, which is pretty much the definitive English-Japanese-English dictionary.  The problem is, the files are in PDICT (.DIC extension, with massive text files included) format, and I don't know how to view them on the Zaurus.
Is there a PDICT viewer available?
Or, more betterer, is there a way to convert them to a format compatible with the preinstalled Zdict or ZBEDic? (I think the Zdict format is PWING, right?)
If anyone has any ideas, let me know.
Thanks!

Software / Crimson Fields On The C3200?
« on: August 15, 2008, 11:30:54 am »
Hi all.  I'm running a C3200 with the Sharprom.
I've been trying to get Crimson fields up and running, but I can't seem to get the dependencies straight.
I've been unable to find a solid list anywhere...and I have about a million SDL lib versions and I'm getting a bit wonky.
Is it possible to get this running with libs compatible with Cresho's NES/SNES/Turbografx16 emulator package?
i also have found reference to SDL-net, but I can't find a viable copy on any feed.
Any Help?
Thanks,
Jim

Hi there.
I'm trying to get Frotz running on my C3200 (Running SharpROM w/ English conversion), and I'm having some trouble, basically because I'm not sure of the file-tree on Linux/the Zaurus.
I can run frotz through the terminal, but I don't know how to load any games because I don't know where the program is looking.  Basically, how can I tell the terminal to load from the SD Card?  Or, conversely, where should I drop the game file so that Frotz can find it?

Also, using QKonsole, can I rotate orientation?  The rotate option is not available under the menu, and any keyboard commands are translated into input.  SHould I use another terminal program?
Thanks!
Jim
I've just checked the syntax on my desktop to be sure. So all the paths refer to my directory structure in /home/stan

There are two ways to do this. Both involve using the console.

1: cd into your gamefile directory. E.G. cd /zorks/data then frotz zork1.dat or zork2.dat as applicable. The adventure loads and runs. You might prefer to only cd to the zorks directory and specify the ./data/zork1.dat file.

2: Specify the full file path E.G. frotz ./zorks/data/zork1.dat.

Of course you'll need to use the actual position of your adventure files in your path or in the cd instructions that you use.

I prefer the second method because it minimises directory changes and makes it easy to use the history commands to play the games.

 Hope that helps.

I've got hold of the Scott Adams games as well as most of the Zork genre. The Adams' ones can be freely downloaded and i believe that there are legitimate sources for some of the Zork one.

As regards the rotation from within the console:I've always rotated the screen beforehand and then run the console. So I have no direct help for you: I think searching the forums should find you some hints on what you want to do. Good luck.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Cbrpager 0.9.14

Hi there, I know this is an ancient thread, but I'm wondering--
Does anyone know, what "bunch of gnome stuff" might be required?
I checked the feeds linked here and there, but all I found was gtk, and it requires some other stuff.
What do I need to get this program up and running?
Thanks!

Thanks guys.
While I was messing around with it, I went ahead and used an english transfer pak I found somewhere on here; but I've decided that I really want to keep Japanese support for dictionaries and whatnot.
SOOOO...I guess that means I need to revert to a clean Sharp rom install, and then try the pak that the_Oak posted (I really appreciate that link, too).
So, in order to start from scratch, do I need to reformat or what?
I checked the wiki, but the guide to restoring is a bit spotty in the details department.
There were directions on doing a factory reset for the C3000, is the procedure the same for the 3200?
Sorry to ask so many questions, but I will fully admit I am a total noob with Liunx--but learning is fun!

Thanks,
Jim

Hi there, I just got my 3200 and I'm having some trouble localizing it.
I've been following the wikipedia instructions (https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Localising/Converting_to_English)
but when I get to the 5th line,
"mv .hide/libjpn* ."
I get the message
"Usage: mv SOURCE DEST
or: mv SOURCE...DIRECTORY
Rename SOURCE to DEST, or move SOURCE to DIRECTORY"

What am I supposed to do next?
I'm totally lost now...

Hi, thanks again for all the replies.  I'll look around at the info.

Koan--You ported WWWJDIC onto the zaurus?  That's awesome!  I use that all the time.

I'll look into C-3200 availability.
Thanks again!!!

Thanks Cap'n.
I appreciate your comments.  I knew I was asking a biased crowd here, but as the Zaurus has been down for over a year now, I was wondering if you all had any new machines.  I guess not!
The more I look at this machine, the more excited I get.
I just have to convince my wife that I really neeeeed another shiny new gadget.
One last question--is there a kind of FAQ or guide to the different distros available, and their relative merits?  I know there is all kinds of info here, but it's kind of scattered, and I was wondering if there was a centralized comparison/info resource.

Thanks again!
Jim
