Is it easy to type on the keyboard ? I would like like to buy it for this, with word processor.

Yes. It's one of the most usable keyboards in the PDA world (well, only if you don't want to type while standing and have WLAN card inserted into CF slot). I have had a chance to compare it with Nokia N810 (just only for few minutes, and experinence seems to be uncomparable). If you are interested in a good keyboard, you can even try older (and not so powerful) devices like HP Jornada, NEC Mobile Pro 900, Sigmarion III or try one of ultra-mobile PC.

As a French, you would appreciate the upper row of the keyboard. Most of concurrent small devices lack it (N810, HTC, OQO).

Regarding the word-processor, you can buy several commercial processors for Sharp ROM, or you can migrate to one of alternative systems and use AbiWord.

Do you think Zaurus computers are always good computers nowadays, in front of Ipod Touch etc ?

There are devices that have more memory, embedded Bluetooth, faster graphics and video-out or WLAN.

But I still think that there is no comparable device and no successor of Zaurus. All of new devices lack one of: decent keyboard, extensibility (USB host, CF & SD slots), open system (chance to put custom applications inside), battery life (UMPC can have everything mentioned before, but at cost of say 4 times shorted battery power).

Read here why I decided to use Zaurus (sorry for automatic translation).

If the Zaurus is out of order one day, will I be  able to find pieces easily for it?

Repair service for all similar devices is always a problem. Many Zaurus chips are generic but very specialized ones. Ordering single replacement part is rather expensive, and repairing device with BGA parts needs a specialized service. Mechanical parts are custom and you have to order spare parts directly from Sharp. AFAIK only Trisoft offers service in Europe. Over the time, there is a chance, that reparinig would be more pricey that another second hand device.

Hi,

I'm French and very interested in Zaurus. I've seen some models on internet, and it seems C1000 is almost good.

Is it easy to type on the keyboard ? I would like like to buy it for this, with word processor.  C1000 is it good for it or have I to prefer another model of Zaurus  with bigger keyboard ?

Do you think Zaurus computers are always good computers nowadays, in front of Ipod Touch etc ?  If the Zaurus is out of order one day, will I be  able to find pieces easily for it ?
