Zaurus - pdaXrom / Socket Card Stuck In Suspended Mode
« on: December 16, 2004, 04:44:18 pm »
The "any" ESSID works fine for me.  You say you can connect to your school's .11b network?  So the problem is only with .11g (w/ WPA) at your house?

Did you try changing the scheme?  That solved my problems on previous ROMS when my card was always suspended.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Socket Card Stuck In Suspended Mode

My "Socket WLAN card (1.00 rev. A)" worked out-of-the-box with 1.1.0-RC5 and a C860.  I just used the Lan and wifi applet to set it up.  On earlier releases I had to use cardctl reset / resume / scheme.

Here's something to compare to:

Code: [Select]
# cardctl ident 0

Zaurus - pdaXrom / NX Client for pdaX
« on: November 05, 2004, 04:39:39 pm »
I got the rdesktop-VNC-mode portion to work some but no NX acceleration.  It's still a priority, I just haven't had the time to work on it more.  I'm really excited about the possibility of NX, hopefully we'll get it soon.

Too bad the nomachine guys couldn't release for anything besides OZ/Familiar/OPIE.

They even release for the PS2.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Thank You for bringing PdaXrom to ours Z

Yeah, great work.  My z would be worthless without it.  Thanks again

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Uploaded VNC Viewer (FUSE in my queue)
« on: September 20, 2004, 10:28:52 pm »
I had been using VNC to and from my Z to Windows and Linux boxes, but it seems too slow and buggy.  The best viewer / technology I've used is NX.  It works very well even on slow connections.  Just thought you might be interested in an improvement over VNC.  To add NX can improve VNC and RDP connections too.  Sorry if this was too OT.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / NX Client for pdaX
« on: September 07, 2004, 10:59:54 pm »
I'm trying to compile the nxrun sources from NoMachine.

The make is dying with:

Code: [Select]
/opt/arm/3.3.2/lib/gcc-lib/armv5tel-cacko-linux/3.3.2/../../../../armv5tel-cacko-linux/bin/ld: cannot find -lxkbfile
Should lxkbfile be linked with xkb in pdaX or what?

I could forward more detailed information if anyone is interested.  I'd really appreciate any pointers.

Edit: I found xkbd source on the NoMachine but couldn't build it because it required autoconf.  I might try to get autoconf, but it seems I should be able to pull it off since pdaXrom already has xkbd support.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / NX Client for pdaX

Ok, thanks.  I didn't know if any of the embedded version parts might still be useful on pdaX.

Now I'm trying to figure out if the regular NX client source is compatible with pdaX and the pdaX toolchain.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / NX Client for pdaX
« on: September 07, 2004, 04:38:46 pm »
Hello,

I've been using an NX server on Knoppix 3.6 and a client on Suse 9.1 and have been very impressed with the quality.  The required bandwidth seems to be very small, although the link is stable, very fast, and high in detail.

NX would be great to use over slower links (e.g. GPRS, free wifi) from the Z to connect to other more powerful boxes, but the NX client posted on the  NX client download page depends on QT and some opie libs.  Fortunately, NX also supplies sources for all their clients.  Which sources would we need to use, since we already have an X server?

Maybe someone with more knowledge than myself can get us started.   Thanks.

General Discussion / please help me!!
« on: May 05, 2004, 12:06:51 am »
For a \"ls\" to work, you need to mount the cf card.  A \"mount /dev/cf /mnt/cf\" should do the trick (/mnt/cf can be any directory on your z).

The read-only problem is caused by permissions.  Use \"ls -l\" to view permissions, and \"chmod\" to change them.  Most of the system files are read-only to protect a user from damaging the system.  If you issue a \"su\" (switch user), and type your root password, you should be able to edit any of the files.  Search for \"vi\" to create/edit documents/scripts.

Great info padishah.
Not sure what version of mplayer you\'re looking for, but from cacko QT:
Code: [Select]
# mplayer -vo help

MPlayer 0.91-3.3.1  (C) 2000-2003 MPlayer Team

Reading config file /usr/local/etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf: No such file or directory

Reading config file /home/zaurus/.mplayer/config

Available video output drivers:

        fbdev   Framebuffer Device

        png     PNG file

        null    Null video output

        pgm     PGM file

        md5     MD5 sum

        mpegpes Mpeg-PES file

        yuv4mpeg        yuv4mpeg output for mjpegtools (to "stream.yuv")

Edit: Sorry if this isn\'t relevent for pdaXrom (ignored thread title)

Thanks hwkeye and padishah.  I\'m just looking for the best combo of framerate and bitrate (and res?) that the Z can handle (not too concerned about file size).

Security and Networking / Wifi stupidity: "The signal level is low."

I don\'t know how much help it is, but since it wasn\'t mentioned under your list: \"cardctl eject\" might get around some of the problems of \"cardctl suspend\", but might also come with additional hassles

I would be very interested in a howto to produce high-quality encodings that are playable on a Z.  Encoding time is no object when compared to the added enjoyment of a movie without pixelation.

Security and Networking / Wifi peer to peer with WinXP
« on: April 06, 2004, 02:34:18 am »
Hello,

I\'m glad to hear you suggest linux.  The bridging incompatibility is supposedly hardware dependent, so it would probably not work under linux if the card is the problem.  (I haven\'t done any bridging under linux, only under OpenBSD)

The important thing is, you wouldn\'t need to bridge the cards if you worked under linux (unless you really have to).  WinXP defaults into bridging after it has maybe 3 or more interfaces (I bet you can change it, but I don\'t know how), but linux will let you route between them all.  Do you need to bridge for your application?  If not, a bridge-free setup has the advantage of keeping an additional computer on the network (without having to add another interface).

What wireless card are you using?  As long as your card is supported, it should be fairly easy to setup a wired/wireless router.
