Wah-hey, I\'m back!  My Z arrived in the mail today (from the States)!  Gard but it\'s sweet!

Bewrrtiful Crumlin down the Kimmage Rd from the elegant Submariner.  Zaurus 5600, 256 SD (PNY), 512 CF (Kingston highspeed).  I\'m a linux newbie, but I\'m keen to upgrade to OZ 3.6 pre1.

Thanks Lpotter - that\'s really good news.  Would you be willing to hint at the ETA for release?

Sorry, I debated putting this in the Newbie thread.

I\'m deleting the Sharp Rom from my 5600 and installing 3.3.6pre1.  What I want to do is install a basic, full-featured system that allows for document authoring and PIM with KO/PI.  I understand that this will entail installing OPIE, all the files for which are available in the Experimental Poodle Feed:

http://www.openzaurus.org/official/experim...4.18-gcc3/ipks/

I\'m not yet familiar with basic linux procedures, but I\'m learning.  I understand that I will need to use the developer tools to reconfigure the Sharp apps from the install disk for OZ.  The question is, before that, to get the OZ system/OS installed with OPIE, how do I pick from the IPKs available in the Feed to ensure that the system is fully installed?  How will I be informed of file dependencies and missing IPKs during  the install process?

I\'ve looked at \"Upgrading Opie on OpenZaurus 3.2\" and I wonder whether effecient use of the Feed will require prior successful configuration of the Zaurus for internet sharing on my Win pc?

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Wavz, I asked Mickey about the USB synch problem, and he referred me to this technique:

\"install the hotplug from oz 3.2\"
 in this thread:

Tell me if this sorts USB synching for you.

This link may help if you\'ve installed OZ:

This link might help otherwise.  Click on the Zaurus on the left and then scroll to the bottom of the page:

Have you looked at KO/PI for address book/calendar/alarms.  Designed to be omni-platformed, it works on Win/Mac/Linux.  Very fine and all free.  Do a search for the principal thread in these forums.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Syncing with OZ -- How?
« on: April 18, 2004, 02:49:27 pm »
JD, someone on these forums recommended this site:
http://home.earthlink.net/~cresho/start.htm

Look left, click on the Zaurus, and scroll to the text at the bottom.  I haven\'t tried the method, but it\'s the only link to instructions on sync problems I\'ve got.  Please offer some feedback if you try it.  Cheers.

Matias, congratulations about your cool gift!  I\'m a newb too, but I\'m wondering if you\'ve made a quick search of the three topics you\'ve requested info on yet.  When the really experienced users give you their answers, you might find it\'s helpful if you\'ve already gotten some of the background info.  Best of luck.
