C1000/3x00 Hardware / Reformating Microdrive With Ext2
« on: March 23, 2005, 11:52:18 am »
Hello,
I'm running successfully Debian PocketWorkstation within XQt on my SL-C3000 using 1Gb ext2 loopback file on the VFAT formatted hda3 partition on the microdrive.
I've simply followed the related HOWTO on the Debian Wiki (http://wiki.debian.net/index.cgi?PocketWorkstationXQT) first remembering to mount the loopback file at every boot before to launch the environment from the PocketWorkstation icon.

Hi,
I don't know why but just after connected the c3000 through the usb cable, you have to unplug and plug again right after a second time both in Windows and in Linux to let appear the microdrive as a standard USB storage device. This issue does't happen if you use the mass storage feature with the CF or SD slot.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Sl-c3000 New (jp) Rom Released (v1.11)
« on: February 27, 2005, 09:24:27 am »
Also my update worked as expected (hdd3 is VFAT as original formatting).
Now it should be possible to create new custom roms without the risk to loose the original rom. Is that right?
Anyone knows if the rescue tools (format - third option at the boot) actually rebuild the partitions from scratch?

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Sl-c3000 Roms
« on: February 03, 2005, 09:34:59 am »
Sharp has released the kernel source code but I think until they don't make available for download an update ROM for the SL-C3000 it will be difficult to see alternative ROMs appearing.
Actually, how you should reflash the unit? There are no initrd.bin and zImage available yet and a NAND backup/restore seems too dangerous to me.
I would be glad to help porting pdaXrom, Cacko or new other roms to the SL-C3000 but I think we should ask SHARP Japan to release an update ROM as soon as possible, maybe including also their latest software updates to Netfront and CF cards.

6000 - Tosa / OpenZaurus, OZ on the 6000
« on: December 09, 2004, 02:39:05 pm »
Backlight tuning is not working yet, too. Has anyone tried launching the Light & Power executable from the SHARP rom?
Does the 6000 use different ioctl calls than the 5xxx/Cxxx models for the backlight?

May you explain how to do this? How do you turn on the led and where does it get the power?

Hello nevarrie,
I have just tested your cramfs dated yesterday October 29 I just want to let you know that I found the installation menu brought up correctly, I used it to install OPIE and everything went fine.
I noticed that suspending pressing the On/Off button begins a suspend/resume loop. I needed to reset to stop it. But suspending from the Opie menu is just fine.
Now if only we get backlight tuning and WiFi running... we could say goodbye to that standard Sharp ROM.
Great work!

6000 - Tosa / SL-6000 carry cases
« on: October 29, 2004, 06:27:58 pm »
I have just realized to have purchased a very nice case for my Zaurus 6000L
It is made by CaseLogic. I bought it from www.digitalpowerpro.com through this eBay auction: http://cgi.ebay.it/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...me=STRK:MEWN:IT
It costed to me $ 4.95 + $ 10.00 for the shipping, it fits the Zaurus perfectly, the width is OK, the height is OK, but the zipper height is just a few millimeters shorter than the Zaurus, but you don't have problems to close it inside, pulling just a little bit.
The exact dimensions are: 6.37"L x 4"W x 1.25"D approximately 162mm L x 101mm W x 32mm D.
If you don't care to close the Zaurus together with CF cards sticking out of it, I think it's currently one of the best solutions. But please be care that you will have space for only the Zaurus inside this case, maybe a small piece of paper, a credit card or an additional SD card, nothing more.
I was only interested to let other people know of this case solution, because it was rather difficult for me to find a good one before. I am in no way affiliated either with CaseLogic or with the mentioned eBay store.

6000 - Tosa / Software for the SL-6000
« on: October 09, 2004, 10:05:39 am »
I have perfectly working on my SL-6000L:
QPDF2
FreeNote
KO/PI

About the Socket Bluetooth card rev.G:
I finally got it working following some instructions found on this forum:
- simply install the latest Bluez package + the CSR extra package
- either delete or move away the file /etc/pcmcia/bm3.conf and maybe also the directory /etc/pcmcia/bm3
- restart pcmcia and restart bluetooth
- Socket rev G is now working (I tested dialup connection through a Sony Ericsson Z600 mobile phone,  hcitool scan, sdptool browse, everything OK!)
But I would like to install the openobex command-line utilities such as irobex_palm3 to beam files... anyone knows where I could get them?

6000 - Tosa / How To Restore 6000 To Original State?
« on: June 07, 2004, 12:08:12 pm »
Hi all,
now that Sharp has released the ROM used in the SL-6000 on DevNet, I think that should be good to backup it as soon as possible on ZUG here, as we know the \"reliability\" of DevNet.
I would like to try pdaXrom now, and maybe help the team to get a proper release for the SL-6000, starting using the Sharp kernel, and updating only the initrd.bin.   8)

I think the instructions posted on DevNet are for complete NAND update, thus is there the risk that if something goes wrong you get a brick?
If it is such a case, is there a safer way to install initrd.bin files?
Also the encsh.c script seems not working with the updater.pro file included in the zip archive for the SL-6000. Should it be safe to use, together the initrd.bin file only? Or is it better to use an updater.sh file from other ROMs for other Z models?  :?

Happy hacking!

6000 - Tosa / Wait for 6000?
« on: May 16, 2004, 04:57:33 am »
The one that you have seen on that page is the SL-6000L, which is already being sold, with WiFi 802.11b.
The SL-6000W has bluetooth in addition, but nobody knows when/if will be available any time in US.
Not even the manuals have passed through FCC yet.

Deals and Great Z Buys / SL-6000 EU, where should I order?
« on: May 16, 2004, 04:48:34 am »
I\'m from Italy and I got one from PC Connection. AFAIK nobody has imported in Europe yet. I asked to ShirtPocket on the first days of April and I never received response.
Amazon doesn\'t export electronics outside US. So even if you don\'t get a good deal. the only way to get a SL-6000 seems to be PC Connection or eBay (if there is someone who already want to sell it).
Also JapanDirect.com could sell one to you directly from Japan, but the last time I asked for the price, it was more than $ 1,000.  :?

Accessories / Which CF modem?
« on: May 12, 2004, 12:50:12 pm »
The Pretec CompactModem is excellent, works flawlessly just like any external serial modem with Linux.
I have tested it successfully with Zaurii SL-5000D, SL-5500 and SL-6000L and with many different roms, sharp, tkc, hybrid, oz.
I managed to send and receive faxes with it, too

I think the best option to get FM radio on the Z should be the FM Xtra headphones from Digisette.  8)
The product is claimed to be universal, thus I think it should work, and it\'s even available for the 2,5mm jack as the one on the Zaurus SL-6000.
Has anyone experience with it?
It has watch-like battery to use even standalone, so when attached to the Z, it should drain the battery of the Z instead of its own one, shouldn\' it?
