Cxx0 Hardware / C760 And Sd
« on: January 26, 2007, 03:07:16 pm »
I recently had success using a Kingston 2GB SD card on my C760 running Cacko 1.23.  The thread that helped me get it working was this one:

https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=17208

The key important steps are:

1. Install the sd-link11b_us_jpn_arm.ipk package (and then reboot).
2. Replace /usr/sbin/sdiomgr with the script detailed in that thread.
3. If you want to use ext2 on the SD card, use 'mke2fs -b 1024 /dev/mmcda1' (vfat apparently works just fine).

Hope that helps!

General Discussion / Bricked C760?
« on: January 26, 2007, 01:30:15 pm »
Thanks for the tips!  I'll try removing the battery for a day and see if that helps.

I ordered up a C3200 yesterday, so when that arrives, I'll be able to use its battery to see if the C760's charging circuit might be the culprit.

The battery switch seems to be working fine.  What kind of behavior would a wonky switch display so that I could tell if that's the problem?

Last night I tried the C760 Recovery Kit, but it didn't work either.  I think it's completely bricked.  No keyboard combination has any effect on startup at all.  Maybe something critical came disconnected inside?  I have no idea what could've gone wrong.  Like I said, it was working fine one minute and completely dead the next.  I hadn't recently altered any software or dropped it or anything like that.

Oh well, a good excuse for an upgrade anyway, I guess.  Also, a good reminder to backup frequently, even if everything seems to be working fine.

General Discussion / Bricked C760?

I've got a C760 that's about 3.5 years old now and last week it just stopped working altogether.  One minute it was working fine, then I closed the lid, opened it back up maybe 30 minutes later and it wouldn't turn on.  Thinking it might be the battery, I hooked it up to AC power and let it sit for a while, but it still shows no signs of life (except the charge light comes on when on AC power).

I've tried holding down OK when powering on, tried to get to the diagnostic menu using D-M keys (and even Fn-D-M), but nothing ever happens.  I thought maybe the battery was completely dead (original battery), so I ordered a new one, but it shows the same behavior with the new battery.

The only thing I haven't tried yet is the C760 Recovery Kit that I believe is supposed to help with bricked units.  Before I take that step, does anyone have any thoughts on other things to try?  Of course, I'll probably use this as an excuse to upgrade to a C3200, but it would be nice to get the C760 working at least one last time to get some files off of it.  Thanks for any advice!

I did a 3.5 month trip to OZ/NZ last fall and took my C-760 along.  I'd say you'll definitely want to bring a Wi-Fi card.  I got lots of use out of mine, especially in Brisbane where they had free access in the Queen Street Mall (basically an entire city block of businesses).  Hotspots aren't as abundant as they are here in the States, but at least in the major cities, I was usually able to find someplace that had free access.  The Internet cafes were usually reasonably priced too.

As for charging, I bought a universal travel adapter thing, sort of like the one here:

http://www.targus.com/us/product_details.asp?sku=PA033U
(don't buy this one, as it's been recalled for potential wiring problems)

... but, I got mine from AAA.  Basically, it handles multiple voltages and has built-in plugs for most major international types.  It worked well, except it's very heavy and tends to fall out of loose sockets (nothing a little tape holding it to the wall wouldn't fix though).

Hope you have a great trip!

Software / x11, xqt and pocketworkstation
« on: March 29, 2004, 12:42:11 am »
I\'m wondering if anyone else is having the problem I am using pocketworkstation with XQt server.  Basically, I\'ve set up the pocketworkstation chroot environment on my SD card and changed the DISPLAY variable to point apps to the XQt server as described in this thread.  Everything works fine except that any xapps run from the debian side have a keymap problem with the \',/\' key.

Pressing that key gives a semi-colon, shifted it gives a capital \'J\'.  So, I have no way to get a slash or comma (very annoying).  Xapps run from the Qtopia side don\'t have this problem.  I did a restore to the original Sharp ROM (am currently using Cacko\'s \'Daniela\' 1.20) and did not get the same problem, so it\'s apparently something in the Cacko ROM causing the trouble.

Anyone experienced a similar problem or have any suggestions on a workaround?  I\'ve thought about using a program like KeyHelper to map a slash to some other key, but haven\'t had any luck yet.
