Sharp ROMs / Lost Tcp/ip Sync Connection Cacko-winxp

Are you using the same USB port, I find it does not work on a different one.

I had a similar problem many years ago, fixed it by removing then re-installing the Zaurus software.

the droid, or milestone here in europe, looks pretty good

but of late I've read some reviews which indicate there are design flaws and/or manufacturing problem

the n900 is still the best alternative to the zaurus as far as I can see without going to a UMPC like the netwalker

Milestone Verses Zaurus or Jasjar

I am attempting to migrate from my Zaurus C3200 & Jasjar to the Milestone, I am about 75% of the way. Some of the issues are shown below. Most of the items are negative which is always the way as you have long since forgotten about the limitations of your old devices. I fully expect to complete the migration!

Like the screens once you get used to using gestures, love the smooth scrolling, speed is affected by speed gesture.

Milestone requires all input using your finger or thumb it will not respond to the use of a stylus or fingernail, this requires larger areas to activate options which reduces the space available to display other information. Example: List management applications enables you to display 7/12 lines of information Milestone will only show 2/6 lines (Landscape/portrait) as more screen space required for things such as edit button.

No copy/cut/paste facilities on Android so extra typing.

Zaurus & Jasjar uses a stylus to select options while the Milestone uses gestures. Navigating the Zaurus/Jasjar uses scroll bars while the Milestone requires you to drag the screen, I keep trying to use drag on my Zaurus!

I save lots of web pages for example on-line receipts or details of products that I am interested in, Milestone does not allow you to save web pages nor display pages saved on a PC & copies across. I understand that this is a limitation of Android as Opera does not support it on Android but does on other platforms.

Can’t synchronise with Outlook on the PC it can synchronise with Exchange, can transfer contacts etc., via Gmail & there are people working on a third party solution. I am trying to avoid Gmail as it comes up with a fatal error when trying to send messages to my domain email service, I don’t have this problem with any other email service.

Lots of free software on Google market place although it can be difficult to find what you want & some is of questionable quality. You can install applications without going through Google Market Place, just download to PC, copy file to Milestone after enabling by pressing menu key from the home screen click settings,  applications then unknown sources to enable this.  I have avoided applications that warn that they will make mobile phone calls as I only use WiFi for Internet access.

Comes with Motonav saterllite navigation, mine does not work, waiting for Motorola support to come back with a solution.

Some Milestone users have reported problems connecting to WiFi others can connect but can’t maintain a connection, lots of possible reasons being put forward but still not clear why. I have the later problem, my personal view is that the Milestone does not fully comply with WiFi standards so it does not have a problem with every router. Switching router off/on always fix it for me, doing this to Milestone never works.

Never remove the supplied xSDcard even briefly as as software protection will disable Motonav.

Keyboard does not have separate numeric keys so you have to press function key to use numbers.

My regular applications

Activity      Zaurus   Jasjar      Milestone
Word      Textmaker   Textmaker                   DocsToGo
Spreadsheet   Hancock   PlanMaker                   DocsToGo
Passwords      zSafe   MyWallet                   IOsafe
Checklists/shopping      ListPro      EasyShopping
Notes         Portabase   StageOne   UltraNotes
Bank Accounts      CashOrganiser           Cashew
Sat Nav         Tomtom                   Motonav
Social Networking            Facebook, MySpace
                  YouTube
TV               BeebPlayer
Photos         PhotoStorage
Kids         TuxPaint      Still Looking

Not paid for any applications will probably pay for the full version of DocumentsToGo as this allows editing, also not sure if Motonav is a trial, will pay for a full version if it can replace Tomtom on my Jasjar.

Sharp ROMs / Wpa-gui Backported To Sharprom

Speculatrix

Just retired & decided to see if I could get my Zaurus 3200 with Cacko ROM using your setting but they did not work for me.

Also had a look at the wifi settings are stored in files in /home/zaurus/Applications/Network/modules but could not see anything relevant.

I used Hex PSK so left out the double quotes.

Any suggestions?

I would add a memory card reader so you can download pictures from your camera to release space as well as viewing on a decent sized screen, you can also take copies of pictures taken by others.

Zauri

You need to map it as a networked drive via the Tools menu in My Computer if you want to see the drive using the same coomunications method used for syncing.

Alternativly you can set the Zaurus up as a storage device via the PC link icon on the Zaurus, but this has to be disabled when syncing.

Suggest that you visit the TriSoft web site & download the PDF that tells you all you need to know.

You should defrag the disk occasionally as Meanie suggests, especially if you keep the disk quite full.

Attach the Zaurus to your PC in storage mode
Right click on drive in Windows Explorer & select Tools
Select defragment disk
You may need to ignore the warning that there is not enough free space to defrag the disk properly.

You may also want to try the option to check/fix drive errors, it does take a long time to run, especially useful if the Zaurus can't find a file that you are sure you have not deleted!

I made my purchase in April 2006, my dispute was about non-delivery which is covered by eBay, yours is about goods returned for repair.

I suspect that the seller is poorly organised rather than deliberately trying to relieve you of your Zaurus, this of course does not help you. most repairs require the unit to be returned to Japan which can take some time.

I purchased a C3200 from him, never arrived despite assurances that it had been sent, but I did get my money back from eBay.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / C3200 Wont Stay On
« on: March 27, 2007, 03:48:24 am »
Thanks everyone.

A friend must have set the brightness to minimum while looking at some pics from his camera, assumed he had switched it off.

On charge overnight & alarm went off following morning to get plane, display was OK as it was still on mains power.

Even so I should have realised having used the Zaurus ever since the first C760 came out.

Put it down to old age, retire in 3 months time, not long after the Zaurus range went into retirement.

Hope someone can help me fix my C3200.

When I switch my Zaurus on it only stays on for 2 seconds, screen goes off then back on for a second then stays off.

I have swapped the battery over with my C760 & the problem stays with the C3200.

Works correctly when on mains power.

Any suggestions?

General Discussion / Date Change Lockup

madfitz

My C3200 usually remembers the date/time when I reboot or at least the date/time it froze, there has been the odd occasion when it has not remembered. I think it actually adds a couple of minutes to the last time it remembers.

Try rebooting when you don't have a problem to see if it remembers.

I had a similar problem about 6 months ago when date was wrong & it locked up when I tried to correct it.

Fixed it by updating EVERY FIELD in the date/time utility, had to do this a couple of times & has worked correctly ever since.

Assumed that some of the date/time data had become corrupt, updating every field got rid of the corruption.

C3100 with standard Sharp ROM.

In Meanie's instructions for his pdaXqtrom he recommends the Automounter package for handling the mounting/unmounting of an SD or CF card if pdaXqtrom is installed to that.

Why would that be necessary?

If I insert a card into my C3100 it is automatically mounted and if I remove the card it is automatically unmounted. Why would I need another package to do the same? Have I missed something here?

Automounter allows you to automatically mount USB devices like memory sticks.
