Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Flash Process Proceeds Beyond 100%
« on: March 15, 2006, 12:41:16 pm »
I was attempted to make the shift from pdaXrom to OZ/GPE on my SL-860.

I performed the partition correction (default sizes of 53 & 68).

Started the install from CF with the zImage.img, initrd.bin and update.sh for 3.5.3 and GPE.

The kernel portion of the flash update proceeds from 0% to 100% and stops.

The RO File System section begins at 0% and slowly proceeds to roughly what I would think is the 50% mark and then speeds across the screen and wraps indefinately.

If I reboot the machine OZ attempts to load and locks at the gpe-dm call.

I have also, reflashed my Z with a nand backup for sharp rom 1.20J.

Then repeated the above steps after assuring that the nand restore worked correctly.
Everything occurs the same and the RO part continues indefinately.

Any ideas? Suggests?

Any suggestions?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / GPRS/Audiovox works on X11 ROM

I have a C700 with the expanded Battery and I get roughly 4 to 4.5 hours with the Audiovox under pdaX.  This is definately bonus compared to the 1.2 hours I get out of my Linksys WCF12 card.

[upgraded]
I have a C860 running pdaX RC9 with an Audiovox RTM8000.  I get roughly 4.5 hours as stated above.
That's constant use in GPRS mode and with the screen brightness turned down relatively far.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / GPRS modem and /usr/sbin/chat
« on: August 18, 2004, 11:28:03 pm »
Hi,

I think I've encountered a bug in the /usr/sbin/chat program.
Whenever it's executed during my connectgprs script, the shell that launches it closes.

To test this I've actually opened an xterm/aterm and typed:

exec /usr/sbin/chat

the end result has been the xterm/aterm closing.

I closed out of mb and attempted the same command from the shell.  This time finding myself
at a log in prompt.

I've been using this scripts on the previous version of pdaXrom pretty much since it's first release.
If it would be helpful, I can post the scripts tomorrow when I can cut/paste them over(they have very funky and specific tab requirements).

the modem I'm attempting to connect with is an AudioVOX RTM-8000 and I'm using the Kathrin RC2 distro an a C860.

I'd have to say that other then this issue, i've had no problems with Kathrin so far.  Excellent work!!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / I/O error on sd-card
« on: May 04, 2004, 03:15:09 pm »
Here\'s the fun error I get with my SD card when I run e2fsck /dev/mmcda1:

e2fsck: Invalid argument while trying to open /dev/mmcda1

The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2
filesystem.  If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2
filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock
is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock:
       e2fsck -b 8193 <device>

I\'ve tried the later as well.

any suggestions?  I just got his card middle of last month and it had been working like a champ until I did a
mkfs.ext2 on it.

For Sale / Wanted / For Sale: SL-C700 w/ Extended Battery
« on: March 29, 2004, 02:57:25 pm »
My company (university) is going to get me a SL-C860 and so I\'m selling my trusty side arm(well, xscale).  Anyway, I\'ve posted to ebay with a reserve at the following address:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=38331

I\'m much more interested in finding it a good home then the hubbub of ebay.

What I\'m selling:
    SL-C700 main unit
    Sharp Factory Power adapter
    Sharp USB/Serial cable
    Install CD
    All the manuals and receipts
    The original box
The 8 hour extended life battery
      What\'s not included:
I no longer have the original slim \"3 hour\" battery.  It died so I upgraded; however, the unit does include the original battery back plate.
Where am I and where will I sell?  USA and USA.. unless someone does a lot more leg work then me on getting this unit overseas.

how much am I looking for?  as much as you\'re willing to pay and still feel good about it.  I\'d like to get 400 USD for the device.  This is on an investment of over 650 USD, but I\'m willing to deal with anyone interested.

I can be reached at via messaging here and/or normal email.
          tdrewry @ cs . bu . edu

I\'ve got a collection of photo\'s available at the following address:

http://guymelf.bu.edu/c700-web

Currently the system is running pdaxrom, but I\'ll reflash it if an iterested party so desires.

btw., I know the pic with all the stuff is from the conics website.. I just didn\'t want to try to deal with the lighting issue for all that different stuff.

Tried Dillo. Yes, it\'s amazingly fast, and working on GPRS modem with Dillo is a real pleasure.  The only (and very serious) disadvantage of Dillo is that I can\'t change the document encoding. So I\'m going to remove it...

I\'d have to agree.. I installed it and enjoyed it and then removed it for a more full featured browser(sort of).  So, if anyone knows how to cross compile opera I\'m an eager customer.  Or if there\'s a good resource for how to use the pdaXrom cross compile environment I\'d be happy to do it myself.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / GPRS/Audiovox works on X11 ROM
« on: March 24, 2004, 09:21:28 am »
I just got my Audiovox RTM8000 running under pdaX 1.0 this morning.. unfortunately I found this thread -after- I\'d spent a bit working on it... I\'m using TMobile for service and downloaded the GPRS patch from the old how-to; removed the bits about user names and passwords and moved the scripts to /etc/ppp/peers.   the pppdealer works great with the gprs script that comes in the tar.gz as the disconnect option is then available as well.

I\'m running a C700 with a 1gb compact flash(not a microdrive).  I installed firefox to it but even the load time is to prohibitive for any sort of practical use... any suggestions?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Problem running Ultima4
« on: March 22, 2004, 03:28:05 pm »
In Summary:

with the davon-xu4-x11.tar.gz ultima4-x.xx.zip and u4upgrade.zip\'s:

mv /where/ever/it/is/davon-xu4-x11.tar.gz to /usr
tar xvzf davon-xu4-x11.tar.gz
mv bin/u4 /bin/u4
mv /where/ever/they/are/*.zip /home/root
(where * is the ultima4 and u4u files)
cd /home/root
u4

and it works.  (just trying to sum up all the craziness from above.)

Tested on SL-C700 pdaxrom partitioned root 35mb

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Recommended Wired and Wireless CF cards?
« on: March 20, 2004, 02:57:52 pm »
Ah, actually, I was able to get it working by using the hostap_cs instructions from another post.  All set now!

the thread which discusses hostap_cs is as follows:
http://www.zaurususergroup.com/index.php?n...iewtopic&t=2524

Also, it\'s still not pretty.  I have to use the following command to initialize the card:

1.  make sure nothing is in the CF slot of your C700
2.  from a shell type \'cardctl insert\'
3.  now insert the card and it will detect and connect as per your
     network settings.

I don\'t know enough about how this works to know why this is necessary
unfortunately.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Recommended Wired and Wireless CF cards?
« on: March 20, 2004, 12:23:50 pm »
I\'m running pdaXrom v.1.0 on a C700(first run of the product) and I have the opposite results with this card.  There\'s no wlan_ng support or any other prism2 support that I\'ve been able to find.

Whenever I insert the card I get a message stating that the card is unsupported via the xcardinfo app.  Obviously with the number of success stories here... I must be doing something wrong??

Can anyone help?
