Sharp ROMs / cacko ROM for the SL5600

I really appriciate all the offers to test the ROM, but untill there is someone willing to maintain, we have nothing to test yet...
I\'ve done years of development and a fair bit of release management and such.  And I\'m looking for a better ROM.  As it is, I\'m still using my Palm that the Z 5600 was supposed to replace because I can\'t stand the PIMs (and haven\'t found a suitable replacement for them).  Even better, I will probably have a bit of time on my hands in a bit (basically, my wonderful tech job has gone elsewhere), and, hey, it will always pad a resume.

On the downside, I\'ve never built a kernel let alone a ROM (I\'m confident I can figure it out, though), my C is rusty, and my C++ is, well, non-existant

Deals and Great Z Buys / cheap sandisk SD 256

Has Sandisk gotten their act together?  I know that in the past they had some serious quality control problems.  I\'ve been reluctant to buy them.  Good price, though.

I\'ve been a Palm user for many years.  Recently, I got a 5600, and now am trying to migrate to it.  However, I\'m running into problems.  Palm got the PIM right, Sharp didn\'t.

Sharp changing the file formats didn\'t help, either.  TheKompany\'s tools look interesting, but if they are not compatible with a desktop app, they won\'t do me much good.

I\'ve played with Qtopia Desktop 1.5.4 that came with the 5600.  It is unusable.  I\'ve tried the latest version of the desktop (it isn\'t compatible with the 5600, but I thought it would be interesting to see what it does), it is only less unusable.

Right now I\'m experimenting with using Intellisync to my Palm desktop.  I\'m not happy with this, either.

The main problem I\'m running into is that I am a heavy user of Palm memos.  While the 5600 has a text editor that syncs with Palm memos, it doesn\'t support categories.  This makes it very difficult to find what I\'m looking for in over 800 entries.

I can\'t believe that I\'m the only one running into these problems.

My dream:
* Solid desktop app that works on Windows and preferably Linux as well.  It would support at least a datebook, address book, todo list, and memos.  Each with categories.  I do most of my work on the desktop, so it has to be useable.
* On the Zaurus it should offer the same functionality, but be optimized for handheld use.
* Good synching.
* Works with the Sharp ROM.  My Zaurus is a tool as well as a toy.  I\'d prefer not to start from scratch each time I get a whim to try something else.

Any ideas?  Otherwise, I just might do the only logical thing: write it.
