Angstrom & OpenZaurus / How To Install
« on: March 09, 2005, 10:52:30 pm »
I should have asked, are you running windows or linux? This is an option in windows that allows you to hide the file extension. The option is located in control panel>folder options>view tab. Then you uncheck the 'hide file extensions for known file types' box. I did this on my windows box at work and It screwed up my flash, because I had inavertently named initrd.bin to initrd.bin.bin. since the last .bin was hidden.  But if you are running linux (as you should be) this could not possibly been your problem.

I'm sure you thought of this already but, you don't have hidden file extensions turned on do you? If you did, your initrd.bin would be initrd.bin.bin and updater.sh would be updater.sh.sh. I know it sounds silly but I have done that before.

I cut my own out of a piece of overhead transparency

I spent 40 cents on a transparency this morning and gave it a go. It seems to work fine. Thanks for the tip.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Zfceu Screen Center

Yeah, It took me weeks back in the day just to find the binary for it. I'm starting to wonder if the original developer got disapeared by the governemnt or something. I would love to try to recompile it for OZ.

I don't remember the screen problems back in the pre-gcc3 days when zfceu worked out of the box so to speak. But I could never go back to OZ 3.3.5 after using the new version.

I'm having a funky problem with zfceu. The image seems not to be centered, the right edge is cut off, and the top of the screen is not refreshing as it should.

The screen shots should make it clear. As far as the metroid shot goes I've also attached a shot of how it should look. Note the little 'TM' next to the title.

Anyone know how to adjust where on the screen the projection goes. I would love for the image to be exactly centered, so there is equal black space on the top and bottom.

Ok, try this,

Quote
umount /dev/mmcda1

to unmount the card

Quote
mkfs.vfat /dev/mmcda1

to format it. If your card previously had a different filesystem on it you may need to edit /etc/fstab to reflect the new fs type.

If you have a usb sd card reader you can use that on your pc. If you want to do it from your zaurus you would need to unmount the card with

Quote
umount /dev/mmcda1

and then use fdisk or cfdisk or some other such format utility. I'm not sure what the sharp rom comes with as far as command line tools. You could always try this.

The files are here You download either the opie image or the gpe image depending on your preference, and rename it initrd.bin.

I am looking for a write on screen protector. There is a guy on ebay who sells custom cut display protectors which fit perfectly, but they are extremely difficult to apply with a satisfactory low level of bubbles and tend to darken the screen some.  Some quick googleing turned up a lot of plastic flip up screens for sale and many sites selling for the ipaq or other non zaurus pda's. A display protector is for me essential, if it is for you where do you get them? Zaurus specific supplies and accessories seem to get harder and harder to find now that sharp killed the line in the US. Please point me in the right direction.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / If You Install Oz Can I Go Back To Sharp Rom?

If i dont like it then I want to go back to the sharp rom
I reflashed to OZ the day I got my Z out of the box, and I never looked back. The flexability, and how should I say this, 'currentness' of OZ far exceeds that of the sharp rom. You won't regret it.

er....  I was told by someone who has a belkin and OZ/opie running on a 5500 that you sometimes need to turn irk off and on once or twice before it "takes."  Skimpy help, I know , but its all I got....

It turned out to be defective, and I had to send it back. Thread is [a href=\"https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10929]here[/url] it's a pretty interesting process, determining that it did not work.
