Sharp ROMs / What would you like to see in Cacko 1.22 ROM?
« on: September 16, 2004, 06:11:04 pm »
First:   Thanks maslovsky - You have already made my Z infinitely more useable than it was before. (and I am still on 1.20)

--- That said, here's my requset:  How about obex.  I would like to be able to do object transfers over bluetooth.  I realize that it would not autimatically allow BT transfers from the apps, but at least I could use the obex utils from the command line.  Perhaps if this is included someone will write a gui, or add it as a function to a file manager.

Thanks !!!

Accessories / SHARP Zaurus MPEG-4 Video Recorder

I have one of these.

With the new Cacko 1.20 ROM, the files it records play very nicely on my C700.  (They did not play with the factory ROM) .

I have never gotten the files to play properly on anything else.  I tried them on a Windows machine in a store, and after an automatic Windows Media Player update, it did play the video, but I do not think it ever played the sound.

Despite loading every codec I could get my hands on, I never got the files to play in mplayer, but in theory it should be possible to make it work.

If you can read Japanese, and you have a Japanese version of Windows, there is a patch that is supposed to correct the files that it makes.  I was not about to attempt a flash upgrade based on software I could not even read.

You can also change the default settings to correct color, increase frame rate, etc.  Again, this S/W is Win only, and in Japanese.  It does run under Wine, but again, I cannot read it.

Also note a few things:

1.  It DOES NOT play back.  It has video out only for on screen displays.
2.  The on screen displays are in Japanese.
3.  It has no tuner.  You can program it like a VCR, but you can only select which of 2 video inputs to record.

For basic operation, and even setting the timer, if you can program a VCR, and your IQ is greater than pi, you can figure it out  even if you do not read Japanese.

5x00 Hardware / CF wifi card has trouble connecting to an AP
« on: April 04, 2004, 10:17:11 pm »
I have a similar problem:

(SL C-700 Cacko 1.20 & SL - 5500 Orig Sharp Rom)

I have 3 WiFi CF cards:

1.  Linksys WCF-11 - The big wide old one - Works fiine - no issues at all in either machine.

2. D-Link DCF-660W      Purchased used at computer show
3. Linksys WCF-12          From discount table at CompUSA

_Both_   2 & 3 have the same problem:

When I first bought the D-Link, it worked fine for about 2 days, then it would seem that I would have to press very firmly on the card, or sort of twist it to get it to be reconized.  If I would release the pressure it would lock the whole machine.  Now, it almost never is recognized.  If I do get it to be recognized, it will often connect, but it I so much as even breath on it, it locks the machine, and I have to pull it out.

Since It behaved the same in the 5500 and the C700, and given it\'s origin, I figured is was a bad card, and went back to the WCF-11.

The I got the WCF-12.  I had to edit /etc/wlan-ng.conf, but then it seemed to work fine for several weeks or possibly months.  Then it started having very similar problems.  Now, it only works if I *really* cram it in to the slot.  Again, if I so much as look at it wrong, it stops working.

Other cards - Quite a few different Storage cards, an Ambicom BT card, and a Trendnet  Ethernet card all work fine in both these machines.

Note that the D-Link and the newer Linksys are (as far as I know) the same (prism2) chipset.

It may be possible that one of these cards did something to my CF slot in both Z\'s, but if so, it did something that only affects the WiFi cards, since various other cards work fine.

My immediate solution was to buy a bigger case, so that I can carry the old, big Linksys card around.

Since some of the problems in this thread seam similar, I thought I\'d post my story, and see if perhaps we can discover something.

Sorry about the length.
