5x00 General discussions / Known "Sync Options" problems??
« on: May 14, 2004, 04:06:05 pm »
Well, I fixed the problem I was having but I don\'t generally recommend my method.  Due to some other issues I was having with my PC, I did a complete reload following these steps...
- WinXP install (including NTFS format - to ensure no bits were dangling)
- Office 2003 install
- Intellisync install
- Patch OS & Office
- Open Outlook and Send/Receive to get a local cache started
- Plug in the Zaurus docking station (USB) and turn on the Zaurus while docked.
Whalla - it was recognized, drivers set, and auto-prompted for sync options.
I then did a sync and have done several since - ROCK solid stability.

I dunno if this will work for anyone else and there are alot of things to back up before reloading from scratch, but it worked for me.  Maybe one of M$ patches was getting in the way before.  Who knows.

Luck to all with similar problems.

I realized I may have left out some key information in my request for help, so here\'s a bit more.  This issue applies to my 5600, as my 5500 is currently under repair.  I\'ve tried using both the Intellisync software that comes on the CD and the updated Intellisync software available by download from Sharp.  Both produce the same results mentioned in my original post - Sync Options won\'t even open.  I double checked and don\'t have the XP \"firewall\" enabled.  It\'s worth mentioning that I am able to FTP files back and forth between the Zaurus and my PC and can install transferred files on the Zaurus, so it\'s not a USB or connectivity issue.  Finally, I am not using a PST...my mail is stored on the server.  Could that be an issue??

Anyone experienced problems starting the Sync Options program?  I\'m running WinXP Pro and Outlook 2003 with all patches.  Before I get the RTFM advice, I know that the docs don\'t list Outlook 2003 as compatible, so that could be the problem.  However, the Sync Options program won\'t even open, much less allow me to try to configure it with Outlook.  When I double-click on Sync Options, it pops up on the taskbar for maybe 3 seconds and then disappears.  If I watch the Task Manager Processes during the attempt, I see  the IS4SL.exe process for the same 3 seconds (or so) and it also disappears.  From what I can gather, the process is terminating unexpectedly.

Any insights??  Sharp support was completely useless on this, not even having a clue as to what the IS4ST.exe process is, much less knowing why is might be dying.

Is there a command I can enter in the console or an app that will tell me which processor I have in my recently purchased 5600.  I have heard that some 5600s have the 255.
Also, the front of the box mentions which processor it contains.  Whether this guarantees anything, I don\'t know.  Mine, from Amazon this week, is a bona-fide 250.  I did the whole kernel thing to enable the buggy cache or whatever.  Did not notice much improvement, but I don\'t notice a lot of stuff.

I got mine from Amazon as well, and the box says it\'s a 255.  Unfortunately, the serial number on the box didn\'t match the serial number of the Zaurus, so you obviously can\'t trust the packaging...  I contacted Sharp and can you believe they can\'t look up my serial number to tell me which processor I have?!!  Jeeze!

Romulus - thanks for the command!!
