General Discussion / confused new zaurus owner
« on: May 07, 2004, 12:38:37 pm »
I have encountered similar problems on my C750 (which still has is Sharp ROM). Some packages do appear in the installer while others justdon\'t...
May it have to do with some compatibility of the given ipkg withthe system? (libraries version, kernel version, etc...)
Any idea?
Something else bothers me: Am I silly or is the /etc/ part of a read-only filesystem? I wanted to add some library but cudn\'t run ldconfig???
Any idea fo you power-user guys? My Linux skills ain\'t definitely as good as I wud them to be!

In fact, the file containing the original Sharp ROM can still be found on Sharp\'s website zaurus.com.
I actually have somewhere the very first 2.12 ROM shipped with my 5500

Ooopps. sorry there.
I was a little too quick in posting my message before reading all the way through the topic.
Anyway, it would still be useful to know exactly what has been done to your Z:
What cable and software did they use, and what for?

Any news from the guys at trisoft? From what you say, I understand that a JTAG direct programming would always be possible whatever the brick state of the Zaurus. But isn\'t there some non-disclosure issue with Sharp to get the JTAG stuff?

General Discussion / Zaurus WAS Bricked, Now solved!
« on: April 01, 2004, 07:48:56 pm »
I was wondering: where exactly are located the \"flash menu\" and \"service menu\" hardware-wise? Is there a risk of wiping them out, effectively turning a SL-Cxx0 into a brick?
Well ok, urs is close to being a brick but since u can still have some menu it\'s not technically dead.
And also, has Sharp Japan given any insight on this format error in NAND restoring?

Too bad we (I?) do not have any clue as to the chosen architecture behind those menus. It wud be so much easier to always have a fallback, whatever and however u flash the Z.

BTW, I\'ve got a questioin: I\'ve been told that u need to at least boot once the normal way to be able to get the service menu? Any clue on this?

Wish you a very good 22th year!

You can find the original NAND backups on conics\' website (see the bottom of the page):
http://downloads.conics.net/pda/zaurus-sl-.../service-menus/
Actually, you can build your own NAND backup file, just follow instructions on this website:
http://www.shirtpocket.co.uk/spforum/index...hp?showtopic=34
although as stated above, both operations involve getting into the service menu which is by its nature not totaly safe.
But if you\'re careful enough, you shouldn\'t have any trouble.
