Just noticed the DATE on original post. It's almost 2 years old!
Yeah, I noticed that.  The original content linked may be gone but perhaps only an update to the link is needed.

I've posted this before on another thread here
When I click on the "here" link, I am swept away to a page displaying this message:  "Failed to load module PNphpBB2".

I would like it if we all changed to using something a little more correct but I don't know what (if for no other reasons than that it will make it easier for newbies to understand, plus I'd like to keep using English properly .
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=101520\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Using standard, and presumably correct, terminology and phraseology is one sure way of enabling all to understand exactly what is being referenced and/or discussed.  Although someone new to, and presumably unfamiliar with, the subject matter may not initially fully comprehend, they are enabled to search and learn quickly and accurately using the standard terminology.  Use of standard and correct terminology also goes a long way toward avoiding confusion when interactively seeking help from others such as via IRC, e-mail, or even forums such as these.

As much as I wish we would all use correct standard terminology, phraseology and nomenclature in all our technical discussions, I don't believe for even a moment that we will.

And now, we return you to our regularly-scheduled program, already in progress....

I've got some strange problems with Gaim and Gnumeric
...
Am I the only one suffering this problem?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=89843\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I have not tried Gaim and cannot get Gnumeric to run without error on my C1k with RC10.

Howdy!  I am a Zaurus user. I live in Hudson, NH, and work in Wilmington, MA... not quite Boston but close.

I've since moved to Peabody, MA, and recently acquired an SL-C1000.  I anticipate closing on a new home up in Manchester, NH within the next month.  Still work in Wilmington.  Still wonder when and where the first user group meeting will be.

Bug report

A sequel to the sad story above ... I noticed that the time was off ... "Odd," I thought, "I set the timezone ... I typed 'ntpdate my.fave.ntpserver.com' ... The screen went dark ... I tapped the screen, the backlight came back on ... the system went in to [sic] hibernation. Hitting the on button brought me back to the desktop, but now it was frozen....
I've had this same experience multiple times with Kathrin RC10 on SL-C1000.

Quote
The desktop wasn't frozen! X had died and left the display on VT2, which was an unresponsive, though pretty, piece of eye candy. (I herewith resist the temptation to compare it to my ex-wife. She wasn't that pretty.)  Logging in with ssh and typing 'chvt 1' got the console back.
As my certifications are different than yours, I was not astute enough to figure this out.
This leads me to agree with you that...

Quote
I think it's a bug that there isn't some failsafe mechanism that does a chvt 1 if X dies, and there's no activity, or a login session, on any virtual terminal other than 1. Either that or the X server should scrawl "aaaagggh!" on the screen as it dies.
I do, however, prefer "AAaarrgghh!".

General Discussion / Recent 5600s have PXA255 processor?
« on: May 06, 2004, 01:16:35 am »
A bit late, but...

SL-5600 ordered from Amazon on 20040403, received 20040407. Box indicates PXA255, and \'cat /proc/cpuinfo\' yields \"Intel XScale-PXA255 rev 6 (v5l)\".

Software / Ogg-Vorbis: Zaurus: What file extension should I use?

So much hassle just to add a single line to a text file.  I think this is one of the reasons most people are turned off to Linux.

Most current version Linux distributions include a plethora of text editors, including those with a GUI.  The Sharp Zaurus installation is a modified subset of what many would consider a full modern Linux distro.

I feel as though I got lucky, and perhaps you might too.

I ordered an SL-5600 from Amazon at $289.88, fully expecting to receive one with a PXA250. I have received it and the box indicates \"PXA255 Processor Version\", the serial number on the box matches the serial number on the SL-5600, and /proc/cpuinfo confirms the presence of a PXA255 in the device.

So, if you are willing to settle for the PXA250, you just might get lucky and get a PXA255 for a reduced price.

Enjoy OTR!
