You say that your Mac machine saw the Z as a storage device, are you sure that you have it set for usb-ethernet?

I am attempting to install it as a storage device as a first step because I naively thought that would be easy enough.

Quote
Do \'lsmod\' and look for either storage_fd or net_fd which are the storage and ethernet modules respectively.

Thanks. Yes storage_fd seems to be present and accounted for as expected.

I\'ve now also tried on another computer with entirely different hardware and the same software level. Same result - no go.

This works on the Mac, hence cable ok + Zaurus comms ok. Win98SE detects the Zaurus when it is plugged in -] low level comms Z-Win ok.

What type of device is the Zaurus listed as in your ME device mgr?

Hi Stu,

Instead of letting Windows find the driver itself, copy the driver over to the hard disk and install it via hardware manager. deepnding on how the C860 cd is setup there may be some Japanese charaters in the path name which English Win98 can not read - anything before W2K sucks for reading double-byte characters and even W2k has probs at times.

Thanks for your advise - I\'ve already done all that. The driver is SL Series Ver3 (WDM), ver 3.44. The Win98SE device mgr gives an error code 10, indicating that the driver is installed all right but won\'t work. Are you aware of a driver upgrade? I must admit that I haven\'t rummaged through the registry yet to try to diagnose this problem. I wanted to hear from somobody first who have this combo running.  Anybody?

The better option is to upgrade to a version of windows that works - or better yet install Linux

I wasn\'t aware that Microsoft had just published a new version of windows, and one that works at that... :-)

I run Solaris, Linus, UNIX, Mac OS and various brands of Windows here. This particular Zaurus unfortunately needs to work with W98SE :-(

Sharp ROMs / Cacko Zaurus Qtopia ROM 1.21 is available!

Well, that was about a 1/2 hour ago and I still just see this screen.

Is this normal???

I had the same problem first time I installed 1.21. I managed to see lots of error messages about corrupt Tar headers flash by second time around. I then downloaded a new copy of the archive from a different feed (the Freench Zaurus site as far as I recall) and everything went smoothly. Perhaps one of the feeds has a corrupt archive?

Hope this helps. :-)

Qt/Qtopia / C860/Qtopia 1.21 + W98SE/Mac 10.3 (Panther)
« on: April 21, 2004, 06:53:44 pm »
Some communications issues:

Using Qtopia 1.21 and setting PC Link to CF card, Win 98E recognises the SL-C860 and wants to install software for it. However, the drivers on the Zaurus disk that I have will not work (SL 3 drivers). The device will install but has \'problems\'. No further diagnostics available in W98 SE.

On an Apple Mac running OS 10.3 (Panther) this is plug and play although for some reason the device gets replicated ten times, i.e. the Mac sees the device as ten identical devices. This is definitely strange and makes me wonder whether Qtopia 1.21 presents the CF card to the USB channel in a non-standard fashion (?)

The Mac does not support USB networks as such, does however support USB printer sharing, so there may be a possibility to tweak :-). I don\'t have time to follow up on this but would like to state that the combination Powerbook running OS 10.3/Zaurus running Qtopia or pdaXrom seems a lot more attractive to me than \'Any Windows laptop\'/Zaurus. There is no doubt in my mind that Mac OS 10.3 os by far the best desktop opsys currently on the market.

To revert to the subject, I would like to hear from somebody who has solved the W98 SE issue - being in no mood to spend more money with Microsoft and thus not intending to \'upgrade\' to another useless opsys. :|

Cxx0 Hardware / SL-C860 Charger and amperage
« on: April 21, 2004, 11:42:03 am »
Modern chargers chop up the output delivered from the wall into suitable portions, then integrates these across a capacitor to give a stable output voltage.

As long as nothing gets warm things are normally all right. The amps rating is normally a max rating (these chargers use a constant voltage, not a constant current) but that said, depending on the circuit you charge into, it is a good idea to stick reasonably close to the recommended max current because the circuit may depend on the charger to limit the current flowing into the battery. I haven\'t seen a schematic of a SL-C860 so I don\'t kow which components sit in the battery charger circuit, hence this slightly airy explanation :-)

Mentioning it: does anybody have access to a hardware manual for the C860?

Denmark / Ny "pegepind" til C760?
« on: April 19, 2004, 04:23:22 pm »

Excellent - I was working at that yesterday but didn\'t get it finished. I\'ll try the new binary asap and give feedback if any.  8)

Alex Chukov has my email address in case you want to talk business. Undskyld, tankeløshed. Jeg bruger næsten aldrig dansk.

Upon further inspection it appears that I do not have WEP capabilities. When i turn off wep everything works fine. This feature worked very will in cacko 1.0.0. Thanks.

Anybody know of any work underway to implement WPA? (802.1x)

Denmark / SÃ¥ har jeg en C860
« on: April 15, 2004, 11:19:12 am »

Kismet?

Venlig hilsen
Niels
