6000 - Tosa / Sd Limit
« on: January 11, 2007, 06:31:12 pm »
I'd never thought about this with the 6k.  Is there a 1gb limit in addressing SD cards?  I've tried both of my 2gb cards and it won't mount either of them - at least not with the default settings in fstab anyway (haven't really dug in to the issue yet).

Before I bang that flat spot on my forehead - is there a 1gb limit?  If not I'll go about figuring out why these cards won't mount.

Thanks!

Software / Fluke Networks Uses Qtopia
« on: December 28, 2006, 03:38:24 pm »
I should clarify - I work for a large corporate IT shop so the unit was purchased new with all of the attachments.  For example the fiber testing / cert attachments were several thousand by themselves...  Interesting especially to me since I have used my 6k quite a lot for wireless testing and network sniffing.

Still 3k on ebay is too much for a pda - or even a tricked out laptop IMHO.

Damn nice network tool though.  Glad to see a large company like Fluke using QT - you think we could get them to put out a sub $1k "geeks pda" with some extra network tools...

Software / Fluke Networks Uses Qtopia

We (ok the company where I work) just got one of these beauties.

To my surprise - it runs on Qtopia.  As soon as the new wears off a little and it has fingerprints from all the other network geeks in the shop - I'll dig into it a little and get specifics.  All I know so far is the screen is about 4 times as big as my 6k and the wireless features beat the crap out of kismet...  Haven't seen it on copper or fiber - yet.

It does still have the calendar app, most of the "control panel" type apps, a linux console and a version of Konqerer on board.  Came with a USB keyboard too.

A little pricey for a PDA though at roughly 18k - USD.

Software / Ssl Email (stunnel Howto)

There are several threads on SSL email and stunnel - some quite old.  I recently had to get this working for a second email provider so I thought I'd just document the whole process into a "HOWTO".   It's in the wiki here.

Hope someone finds it useful.

6000 - Tosa / VoIP On the 6000
« on: October 12, 2006, 01:41:45 am »
i've been using iconnecthere for about a year as my primary phone at the house.  I've been pleased overall.  Finally got aroung to trying it with the Z tonight and it was easy to setup and 2 or 3 test calls to my various voicemail boxes were flawless with KP/PI.

Great work so far offroadgeek! I look forward to learning how you make out with asterisk/Voicepulse Connect. It does seem like the ideal solution, but in the meantime I may try IConnectHere.com's "Build Your Own Plan" for SIP users w/ FWD. Anyone have feedback about ICH? According to FWD they should work fine for PSTN calls, and the prices seem reasonable.

6000 - Tosa / Kismet on the 6000
« on: December 04, 2004, 02:44:34 pm »
Don't know if you've discovered this yet - Hold your stylus on the Kismet icon for about 2 seconds.  A menu will come up - select "Execute with root privilege".

Sounds like your "War-Walk" connection is working as it should BTW.  The Wifi light blinks when the card is active but not associated with an AP.

6000 - Tosa / Kismet on the 6000

While connected to war-walk, I launch kismet via the icon.

It opens to the configure screen.  I choose Sharp Prism2 and tap restart.

When the restart is over, it says "Can't connect to server"

I've tried other settings, but they all return the same message.  Our entire facility is wired.  Could it be a security setting on our wireless?  Or did I botch the install some how?
Two possibilities.

Is your "war-walk" configuration staying up and connected?  - I.e. is it in ad-hoc mode?  If it is then connect to that and run kismet from the command line and see what it says.   Properly configured without a client talking to it - it will run and report an initial snif and then exit.

Otherwise it will most likely tell you exactly whats wrong.

6000 - Tosa / Email Client
« on: October 31, 2004, 02:01:02 pm »
Is anyone using an email client other than QT mail?

QTmail is a Pretty nice POP client and It's IMAP capabilty is great except that it wants to download everything - which in my case is, lets just say um, non-trivial....

6000 - Tosa / gmail capable browser on sl-6000

So far I've been VNC'ing to one of my desktops and using Moz from there...  I did notice that gmail has "use gmail with my Opera browser" as one of their default choices on the "request a feature" page.

Go look in the downloads area, under "other cool stuff".  A while back I created and uploaded a template that you can just print on overhead transparency film and cut out.  I've been using one for months now.
