Sharp ROMs / Japanese Kernel For Cacko Rom 1.22

I also had problems using the Package Installer to install the translator data files to my SD card. Didn't do any real investigations as to why, but possibly because the pathnames within data.tar start with "./opt" ?

Anyway, for the translator, you need to download the following files :

translator_1.0.0-1_arm.ipk
translator_ej-data-data_1.0.0-1_arm.ipk
translator_je-data-data_1.0.0-1_arm.ipk

Where did you find those files ? I was unable to find them.

Thanks

For your information, Lirc need to have a file containing the remote configuration, it can't learn without the remote. So, if you did not record it before or if it is not available on lirc.org, a working lirc will be useless...

Maybe you could try this?
http://www.pocketop.net/irextender.htm

I like the idea of the irkb101, which lets you hook up a standard ps2 keyboard to the Zaurus IR port, but I don't think it is available any more..?

For DIY ps2 keyboard/mouse/SNES pad to Serial/IR seek big beefy keyboard in Accessories section.

Cool. Do let us know if anyone builds one of these!

I don't have the skills to do it, and even if I tried I would be afraid to plug my work into my Z.

Maybe if someone figures it out they could sell them. Or maybe it is more work and parts than what anyone would pay for it.
I was kidding when i talked about aspirin and so on : the circuit board you are seeing on the pic is the Xtrasuperdeluxe version with IRDA,Serial for both PCs and zaurus, connexions for PS/2 kb and mouse and Super famicom pad ! And there is "only" a dozen of components. If you visit the website you will see that there is less complete but also less bulky and easier to make board (IRDA only to PS/2 KB and M).
EDIT:(also serial to PS/2,or to SFC pad only ...)

Oh, and about the fear of frying your Zaurus, even the most complete circuit board does not necessit external power supply, only Z power, so there is no risk !

What's the biggest, beefiest keyboard that works with the Z? Seems like the trend is toward tiny little ultra-portable jobbies, but I've got the built-in keyboard for that. I want something I can plop down on the desk and type for an hour on. I don't care if it doesn't fold up, and I don't care if it's wireless or not. I just want full-size keys, with a real number row, and all the important symbols accessible. What can I use?
Heat up your soldering iron and your favorite japanese to  English/French/German online translator (let's say babel fish for example)
And go there
Full solution to use classical PS/2 Mouse and Keyboard on the Z !!! No more need to take keyboard with you !
Oh, if you're still interested, take some aspirin , you could need it ...

PS: do not forget to post if you achieve something interesting
PS2: this site is full of interesting junk BTW.

not ported to C-series
Is there any other remote-control software for them?
Seek in the previous page for the post about Lirc for Qt . It does work, a bit hard to set up but work very nice after . Cons: Poor range, REALLY poor (50cm-1 M)

I am trying to run zIrRem on my 860 (Cacko 1.21b) with no joy. It does not run from the GUI regardless of magnification/root options and regardless of the direction the screen is rotated.

When I try running it from the command line with the screen not rotated, it responds with:

Display size = 480x640

The only settings file that I could find was remotes.list and it could not be opened with a text editor.

This was a timely message since my kids seem to have hidden the remote. Any assistance is appreciated.
Well for everyone information there is an open source ir remote based on lirc.org GPL software .A VGA GUI has been made recently . Some more filehere .
I don' remember if you need other files. Check Linux tutorial on lirc.org .The badnews are : bad range (50cm-1m) and it need the remote to record the touch frequencies , but once setup correctly it work very well.
