Dos is so much Linux's bitch, that you really can run dos on Linux.

Check out Dosbox, qemu and bochs.

Someone else may speak for the useability of any of those programs on a Zaurus however.

Im guessing you want a portable nostalgia machine for old games?
If so, there are also other projects like ScummVM that are designed to run specific games on newer hardware directly, without the need for a full dos environment.

There are many others, such as for the Sierra Adventure games.

Run Bochs
Just like other linux system, get your disk,bios image, edit .bochsrc, then run "bochs -q".
on my Zaurus, enable sb16 emulation will make bochs halt at the BX_INFO("midi..... line. remark it, then bochs can work with wavemode=1
and without midi, but I still can't heard any sound. I got similiar situation on PC.
To exit bochs, type the magic sequence "exexbo". Mouse is limited supported in this version, only left button is support and to move the mouse, you have to use your stylus like a mouse not a stylus. what I mean is, you can't expect that ypu point somewhere on your screen, then the cursor will go to the place you want. All you can do is drag the cursor. And use your stylus to touch the screen(without drag) to toggle the left button status. when you touch screen once, then left button is pressed, touch again to release left button. so one clicked need you to touch screen twice while a double click cost you four touchs.

if anything i think DOSBox probably would be the best for me to explore, again....

dos or terminal?

linux doesn't do dos

as a matter of fact dos is really linux's biotch

would not that be stating the obvious?

im not planning on hacking the nsa through someones wifi

so it really does not matter to me the superiority issues

i need a full dos enviroment to do what i need to do
i only care about sound and graphics
the best sound i can get out of the z5500 w/ sharp rom 3.10 the better
i plan on running oldskool mod trackers on it such as AST,AXS,Fast Tracker,Pro Tracker.......etc

when it comes to linux, running sound/mod trackers there is nothing useable...yet

BTW a close friend of mine said i would have to be a masochist to try making music using linux...................he was right.

No YM2149 sound chip emulation.
plus it crashed every other load............there was 1 or 2 trackers that ran okay
but the landscape mode just doenst work with tracking....... unless you have a ir keyboard, but i just want to use zaurus keyboard.
plus i already have enuff to carry around w/ me.



so i decided to go back an try atari 800z again an see if it actually does run ms dos w/ sb16 emulation , but  i dont have much faith in it.

i didnt know that castaway does not support sound@!!!!!!!!!
No YM2149 sound chip emulation.
ah and to think.......................... i was so close.

so after playing with it some more pro tracker was acting crazy
pressing buttons on its own an such
but i loaded this one and it seems to work so far very stabley <? if thats a word

while i was typing that last post i got the gui working for pro tracker 2.1
i'll be posting images of it here shortly
but they are very dull for some reason

i have gotten to the gem desktop
now i can not seem to figure out how to access the other files in side it


i did successfully mount the .st file
tho i cant figure out how to access it from inside the gem desktop

i guess i will just keep on trying different things

i have all of the files in /home:
/home/castaway
/home/diska
/home/diskb
/home/rom
/home/Tos206us.img
/home/atariDisk/bbs_ads.txt
/home/atariDisk/file_id.diz
/home/atariDisk/pt_st.prg
/home/atariDisk/pt_ste.prg
/home/atariDisk/sync01.mod

i cant seem to figure out how to access the directory /home/atariDisk/
so i copied all the files in /home/atariDisk/
to /home
so in reality my /home actually looks like this

/home/castaway
/home/diska
/home/diskb
/home/rom
/home/Tos206us.img
/home/Tos 102us.img
/home/bbs_ads.txt
/home/file_id.diz
/home/pt_st.prg
/home/pt_ste.prg
/home/sync01.mod


on top of things i also put castaway and the rest of the contents of castaway-rel inside:
/home/QtPalmtop/bin
so i could just type "castaway" at the bash prompt but it will only run if i type "castaway" inside /home

i got past the libSDL problem i was having but now when runningi get a error
saying

TOS-image not found, exit!
is there any solution to this?

i found this on sunday thinking it would be best thing to use for what im trying to do

im trying to get one of these sound trackers to run
the atari tracker heaven page
through your emulator, but i keep coming up with a problem with libSDL

castaway:  error while loading shared libraries: libSDL-1.2.so.0: cannot load shared object file: No such file or directoryi installed the libSDL from your site but even with an older one it still comes back to me with the same problem.
so i dont think it is directly related to the libSDL you have on there.
but i have not figured out a way past this yet.

the good thing about the atari tracker page is that it has alot of different trackers on it
and i can go through an try each one till i find one that works.
well preferably one that produces a file format that other/newer trackers can read.
an with your .msa to .st converter even more....  

but i just first need to get past this libSDL problem that i can not seem to get past.
i guess it would be best for me to look through here to see if i can possibly find a thread about this problem.
