Dear Sloan,

Thank you for your response. None of our Pocket Modems would work with a
Linux operating system. It is mentioned on the packaging that the Operating
System supported by the modem are Windows CE ver 2.11 and Pocket PC. Please
return the product back to the place of purchase for a refund.

In that case I wish to receive a PA560U to replace my
improperly packaged PA560, as it was your company's
mistake that led to my receipt of a PA560 in the first
place. Please mail it to...

Dear Sloan,

I apologize for the delay in servicing your request and greatly appreciate
your patience with this matter. This modem uses the built in drivers on a
Windows CE operating system. The modem would not work on a Linux PDA since
those built in drivers are not present on a Linux system.

Really? Then can you tell me the reason for this
site? - http://www.modemhelp.org/inits Or this one? -
http://www.56k.com/inits/a2z.shtml Or this one? -
http://www.west.net/~jay/modem/ There's plenty
more... just do a search on Google for modem init - I
got about 409,000 hits. Now someone in your service
and support department has to know the answer to my
question, which is "What are the init commands for
this modem?" Will you please find that someone, and
the answer, for me? Thank you.

Dear Sloan,

For init commands you need to contact to your Internet service provider.
Generally init commands are provided by Internet service providers only.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

Thank you.

According to this you're incorrect...

p.s. - Will you just give me the init commands so I
can see if they need to be changed and if so if that
will work? Thanks.

Dear Sloan,

I apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused. Even if we replace
PA560 for you still it will not work with your notebook as Linux is not
compatible with it. According to the Targus policy refund is only possible
when there is an online purchase and the date of purchase is within 30 days.

Thank you.

Yes, I do need further assistance. I need for you to
send me a PA560U or $10, (since that's what I paid
new) for my PA560 that was supposed to be a PA560U
according to the packaging.

Dear Sloan,

I apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused. However this
particular modem of Targus do not support Linux operating system. That is the
reason it will not allow you to install the modem on the computer.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.
Thank you.

Software / .xls file created on Zaurus not showing up

Yes.  It will find the files that show up in Internal Flash (inside subfolders and out) but not the ones referred to in my first post.

Software / .xls file created on Zaurus not showing up
« on: September 24, 2004, 07:47:01 am »
So I created a spreadsheet on my Zaurus and saved it as .xls to Internal Flash and it's not there.  So after I seemingly lost all of that data I tried the same thing with a test file just to see and got the same result.  So I saved a .xls file to Internal Flash from my PC to see if that would work and it did.  Is my original file gone?  If not, where the heck do I look for it?  Same question goes for my test files.  If I can't recover the data, I'd at least like to get rid of the files to free up what little memory they consume (if they are indeed in there somewhere, and they should be, since they 'acted' as if they saved).  Thanks!

Oh yeah, SL-5600, Sharp OS, Hancom Sheet.

Accessories / Which CF modem?
« on: May 27, 2004, 08:43:16 am »
Who has a Targus PA560 working (if anyone) and what are the init commands?  I ordered a new, sealed PA560U (that\'s what it said on the packaging, anyway), but the modem inside turned out to be a PA560.  Thanks.

5x00 General discussions / Unable to play MP3s
« on: May 16, 2004, 02:57:25 pm »
Would you dig this up so I can see if this is my problem?  Thanks.

There is a conf file (whose name I will attempt to drag out) which has an option to uncomment to remedy this. I think it is something like xine.conf or conf.xine in root settings.  I don\'t have my Z to hand at the mo so I cannot check.

Software / Problem with default media player on 5600
« on: May 13, 2004, 09:00:52 am »
I used Adaptec\'s Easy CD Creator.  It is crappy software - I wouldn\'t be surprised if it was part of the problem - but I converted 3 of these files previously and they played on my Z w/o a problem.

I don\'t know, but looks like the codec may be unhappy? What did you use to rip the songs?

I\'ll try testing with what I use - mplayer and/or opie-mediaplayer2.

In that case you could try starting it by typing the following on the command line:

/opt/QtPalmtop/bin/mpegplayer

then try running one of your files and see whether it has written any warnings to the console afterwards.

What are the mp3s? Do you have an example? Did you make them yourself? Encoding, etc?

The standard Sharp player doesn\'t support some of the non-standard (?) types of mp3 iirc.

Okay, got the following before I tried any files...

4 decoders found

Then got this with each file I tried...

Using the Ippmp3Plugin decoder

It will play .wav Bitspersample: 8 Sampling rate: 8000 Hz, will not play .mp3 Bit rate: 56 kbps Sampling rate:16000Hz and up.

Files that would not play at all gave me...

Floating point exception

They were all different bit rates, sampling rates, and file types (all were mp3, but some were 1, some 2), but they were all converted in 1 session from the same CD.  They play fine in Windows Media Player, though.

Go to...

http://www.bullship.com/lyric

and click on any song title for an example.

Software / Problem with default media player on 5600
« on: May 10, 2004, 11:32:13 am »
I\'m at work so I can\'t sync, but for the player I get...

lrwxrwxrwx     1 root     root          33     Feb     14     2003     mpegplayer - ] /usr/QtPalmtop.rom/bin/mpegplayer

Quote
I can\'t really help as I\'m running a different ROM.

But try pasting the results of the following:

cd /opt/QtPalmtop/bin
ls -rtl

Then I\'ll take a look and see which is the binary. I have a feeling it\'s probably that your mp3 is encoded in a way which the standard media player can\'t handle.

Try running it from the command line to see what it complains about (look in /opt/QtPalmtop/bin for something that sounds like a media player binary).

I suck at linux.   Unless someone writes it out like I need to enter it, I won\'t be able to.

I\'ve installed 3 different versions of mplayer and none worked.  I want to use mplayer shell to control it if I can find a mplayer ipk that will actually work.  But for now, I\'d be happy w/default player and vorbis.

It plays the mp3s, but they\'re gibberish (a few seconds of random noises), then the player automatically closes after the file \'ends\'.  Any help would be appreciated.
