Hello all,

I am having an issue flashing to the latest.

I have a Poodle PXA-250.

When I flash with the new kernel and put an opie-image-rootfs.bin in /media/card/boot-images/, it tells me that it flashes the kernel and that it cannot find a rootfs, "please reset".

When I reset it, it get a kernel panic - not syncing: No init found.

What have I done wrong?

Thanks,
Chuck

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Hentges 3.5.4.2 Rcs Available
« on: September 29, 2006, 10:45:43 am »
I have installed the Opie version onto my Poodle (PXA250) and the sound does not work.  When I installed RC1 version it worked and I had to use the commandline app to adjust the sound.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Well, I just installed and tried both opie and gpe.  What everyone says is true, my little is fast.  I have always liked GPE and would like to use it, but is was sloooww on the poodle.

One question now, is getting it to recognize my network card.  Maybe I missed other posts regarding this, but when I try and assign any driver, it does not work.  I have an Ambicom WL1100C card.

Great work on this.

can you share that part? I want to add it into hostap-conf
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=122956\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I am going to assume what was added to /etc/pcmcia/config.

It actually is the same format as hostap_cs.conf.  I am including the lines prior to it as well.

# Include configuration files for add-on drivers

source ./*.conf

# Include local configuration settings

source ./config.opts

card "AmbiCom WL1100C 802.11b CF-Card"
  manfid 0xd601, 0x0002
  bind "hostap_cs"

If there is something else you needed, let me know.

I posted what seems to be a fix for me & details.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=122862\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I actually just got it to work as well.  What I did was start the PC/CF card application and assign the hostap_cs driver to my card.  Now, that driver is not listed in the dropdown, so I typed it in manually.  After that it worked like it should.

Now, looking at the /etc/pcmcia/hostap_cs.conf, it shows my Ambicom WL1100C card bound to hostap_cs.  I noticed that under /etc/pcmcia, the file "config" had a modified date of today.  In looking at that file, I see my Ambicom WL1100 card bound to hostap_cs.  I rebooted and it worked as I would expect.

can you be more verbose?

you booted opie installation, added hostap-conf r1 and card was working

then you booted gpe installation, not used hostap-conf r1 and complain that card is not working?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=122648\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I am sorry that I was not more clear.

You are correct regarding the Opie installation.  Everything works well.

As for GPE, I booted into it and installed the hostap package, just I did in the Opie.  It did not work with the package you said to try.  Under settings, I used the PC card app and tried assigning the orinoco_cs driver to it and it reports that socket 0 has the Ambicom card and the driver assigned.  It still does not work.

Do the hostap and hostap_cs modules need to be loaded in gpe as they are in opie?  They are not loaded in my installation of gpe.  I may go back and reinstall gpe, see what's configured prior to doing an update.

Install that package and tell me does it help - it should
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=122595\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I installed the into the Opie install and that worked great!

It did not work, however, in my Gpe install.  I assigned the orinoco driver, but to no avail.

hmm.. looks that I need to check initscripts in upgrades and fix them.

card not working is other thing... can you paste cardctl ident output? Ill do update to get it working back.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=122565\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Here is the output.

Socket 0:
  product info: "AmbiCom", "WL1100C 802.11b CF-Card", "2.2"
  manfid: 0xd601, 0x0002
  function: 6 (network)
Socket 1:
  no product info available

In Opie, when selecting the card applet, the popup states "unsupported card" and when selecting configure, it tells me that it is not bound to a driver.

Prior to the upgrade the card worked without any problems, both in opie and gpe.

Thank you,
Chuck

Hello all,

I am running 3.5.4 on my poodle.

I just ran ipkg update ; ipkg upgrade and it upgraded quite a few packages.

I rebooted it and it told me that I was running the wrong kernel.  That I need to be running one that ended in 3.5.4.1-alpha.  Well, it booted into opie fine, except my Ambicom WL1100 Wifi card is not recognized.

A side note: I dual boot (altboot) and run gpe off of my SD card.  Same problem with that as well.

What have I done?

5x00 Hardware / Another Wireless Issue

howdy guys

so i got this dlink dcf 660 cf wifi card, a sl5500, and the sharp rom 3.10.

anyway, i had plug and play for this thing for a while. it worked fine. then after two weeks or so, it stopped working, and i'd have to unplug and replug it a couple of times to get it to recognise it as a wireless card. as time passed, the number of times that i had to do this before i was able to get it working got longer, to the point where i can't get it to work at all now.

what's up with this

also, assuming i get this thing to work, how do i get a list of available access points?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=116311\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I had that card and used it in my Poodle (5600).  I had the same problem as you stated.  It finally just stopped working.  I would not recommend that card to anyone.  I purchased a AmbiCom WL1100 and it works great and have not had a problem yet.

I remember other people commenting that the DLink card has had problems.

Hope that helps.

Hello,

I too have a 5600 and I reflash quite often.  I found that when I reflash to different images, there can be problems.

My fix and I read it in another post, is to first delete the root directory under home and recreate.  Then I reflash back to the original Sharp ROM, then I flash the ROM that I want to try.  This procedure fixed a lot of strange behavior when reflashing.

Sharp ROMs / Wireless Connection On 5600

Hello,
I'm trying wireless connection on 5600 with Sharp rom v1.32 and special kernel v1.3 applied. I have Linksys wcf12 wireless card. Set up network info in network applet including essid, wep key, etc. When I insert card green light comes on for a second then goes out. "ifconfig eth0 up " shows "no such device". "cardctl ident" identifies card ok. Network applet shows network as "off line". According to Special Kernel info on ZUG Downloads, Wireless Extensions should be turned on. Is there a file I need to modify, or are there any suggestions as to what I should check?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mark

Just type ifconfig.  It will not be eth0, it should be something like wlan0.  The other command to look at, is iwconfig.  That will show your settings.

In the taskbar, you should see a globe.  Click on the globe and it will give you an option to start networking.  If I remember correctly, setting up the card in the network applet does not automatically start it.

Hope that helps.

Open Embedded / Openembedded & Bitbake

Hmmm... What "four rpms" did you download? I'm really interested in building a cross-compilation environment, if I can't get development working on the Z itself (which is my preference).

The link to get the "four rpms" is ... https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Compiler_Setup.  This is/was for developing on the stock rom.

I will have to tell you, getting a cross compiling environment was not that painful.  As I previous;y stated, I did this on a HP 6000 laptop 256mb ram and a 20gb HD.  I followed the steps from "Getting Started", http://oe.handhelds.org/cgi-bin/moin.cgi/GettingStarted.  I had problems using the snapshot, so I followed the recommended setup.  It took a few hours and in the end I had a toolchain.  To get this, I ran bitbake nano.  Today, I ran bitbake opie-textedit and now I have the libraries I need to build a gui app.  All it took was  an hour or so.  The only thing left to fiqure out is how to create a .bb file.

I also found the docs in http://opie.handhelds.org quite helpful as well.  Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but I think one could take that toolchain and setup a cross-compiling environment to build their app outside of bitbake, following the docs in opie.handhelds.  I know this would bypass the openembedded build environment, but it could be accomplished.
