Software / Viewing Raw Images

I'd like to find this as well. I currently get around it by saving NEF + JPEG on my card and viewing just the JPEG.

General Discussion / Sharp Leaves Pda Market In USA

I am curious though, do any of the "corporate" or "enterprise" customers that sharp was targeting with the 6000 frequent ZUG ?

If so... what do you use your Z's for...

do you use specialised software or receive any kind of special customer support ?
The only Linux based mobile computers I've ever seen in enterprise applications are the AML ones.

[img]http://www.amltd.com/images/the-works_25.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /]

These compete with Symbol, HHP and the like, where they do a pretty good job. They have laser scanners, WiFi and all that fun stuff.

Can't imagine what applications the Zaurus would be used for, maybe a mobile terminal for Linux sys admins?

Cxx0 General discussions / Carrying case for the C860

I bought this case a few months ago and it's worked out pretty well. One of the small plastic clips at the front has broken off, but the main ones at the back are still there.

When it breaks, I'll go naked or get the extreme case (I htink that's what its called).

See Lisa's review at pdabuyersguide for details.

Sharp ROMs / ROM confusion
« on: August 21, 2004, 09:17:21 pm »
I'm certainly hoping that Cacko ROM will continue to be developed. I have no need for the pdax rom and my 860 with cacko is the best device I've ever used.

I can't believe that this great work will just be abandoned. Anton Maslovsky seems to specialise in Qtopia programming. let's hope he continues.

Accessories / replacement stylus

Aha, if someone shows that Tungsten's stylus can fit in the SL-Cxxx series I will get one myself without hesitation...

Thank you zenyatta
I've been using the Tungsten stylus from PDA Panach in my 860 and it fits perfectly. Much better than the toothpick that comes from Sharp.

I'm just resolved with never purchasing or supporting tkc again.
Unless TKC supports their apps on Cacko or the other ROMs, I probably will not buy anything from them either.
I would have thought it was in Shawn's interest to look after his customers (it's a really close community afterall) and support the active ROMs.
Maybe his business has just moved on from the Zaurus and it's not part of his business plan anymore?

I totally agree. TKC is not a 'big' company at all as it may have appeared in the past. It is a set of programmers as you have stated trying to conduct commerce and rip people off.
So what's wrong with a group of programmers getting together to start a business? If you are happier with the products of large corporations, there is one in Redmond, Washington that you might want to check out.

I've never used a TKC product so I can't comment on them, but I did have a question once and Shawn answered me right away. I think that getting a response from the boss of the company is great, better than dealing with some underling who has no idea what is going on.

I would like to see TKC develop their ROM further. I know a lot of people like the current version so it obviously has a lot of potential. Someone in their group of programmers should have picked up development when this Proto guy pegged it out of there.

Having an up to date ROM would certainly enhance the popularity of the TKC apps as well. If they only support them on Sharp or TKC ROMs it's a very limited market they have left to sell to.

General Discussion / converting .lit files to ebook for Zaurus
« on: July 25, 2004, 08:56:14 pm »
Thanks Stubear, I guess I'm not one for reading the instructions so I discovered the solution by trial and error.

I must say, I'm glad the convert lit guy goes to all this trouble or it would be hard to get books to read on the Z. I have no problem paying for my books, but I do want the ability to read them in the format I want. Thanks to ConvertLit, I can do just that. For me, it's well worth the trouble.

By the way, I'm really enjoying reading Neal Stephenson while waiting for George RR Matrtin to get finished.

General Discussion / converting .lit files to ebook for Zaurus

I convert my .lit books to Mobipocket format to read on the Zaurus in Opie Reader or JustReader.

I wrote about my latest adventures here: http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=30383

As long as you keep up to date with the Convert Lit versions everything works great.

Tim, just to let you know, I downloaded your new version (using Cacko ROM on 860) and it works great.

I've been using JustReader for my Mobipocket format books and it is usually good but refuses to open some books. Also, I haven't been able to get it to display graphics.

One book I've not been able to open is Bill Clintons one. With the new version of Opie Reader the file opened perfectly and I was confronted by Bill's smug grin on my screen.

So thanks for the great work. While I could do without the smug grin, it's fantastic that I'm getting my Zaurus closer and closer to just how I want it.

If you are going to add new features, an easy way to scale fonts would be nice as well as an auto scroll ability. (These might already be there and I haven't found them yet of course!)

Cxx0 General discussions / pdair case c75 vs c76
« on: July 09, 2004, 09:40:15 pm »
What you say is correct. With the PDair case for the 760/860 you do have to remove one of the plasic clips. The clip that retains the Z in the case snaps into the same spot.

I also don't think it will work too well with the small battery. The whole thing will be rather floppy.

The case is pretty good, especially for the price. I also liked the Extreme Limit case but they were sold out when I needed mine. I'm happy with the PDair. The only problem with it is the lack of a cutout to make removing CF cards easy. You can still do it, but it's a bit fiddly. Other than that, the quality of the leather and stitching is good and the fit is excellent.

Software / JustReader and MobiPocket files
« on: July 08, 2004, 10:22:11 pm »
I use JustReader to read my Mobipocket books with no problems. One thing to note is that you can only read unsecure Mobipocket books. If you bought your books in secure Mobipocket format I don't think they will work.

The workaround is to buy your books in Microsoft .lit format and use ConvertLit and Mobipocket Publisher (both free) to convert to open Mobipocket format. If you do this you should be fine.
