I don\'t like it. err.... let me restate that.

One of the best things about the Zaurus is it\'s open source nature. It just seems wrong for the major zaurus site to support and use non-free software.

If you read a bit more, then you\'d also find that they have a free version of the IPB, not that I\'m saying I wouldn\'t pay for the license.

Just because a company sells software, that doesn\'t mean it\'s not open source.  AFAIK IPB is all based on open standards, none of the code is closed source (someone please correct me if I\'m wrong!).  

The only difference between the licensed IPB vs. the free version is that the licensed one has a couple more features, and you get support from the company.  

By the way, the original ZaurusZone and the current devnet uses IPB.  It\'s just a really good forum.

It seems to me you don\'t quite understand open source. It\'s not about cost... It\'s not being able to see the source. it\'s about freedom!

Just look at all the options we have for what os to run on our zaurus\'s that would not be possible under a license like invision uses.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Installing Apps on OZ

When your using the sharp OS the memory works like this.

16MB flash (where the os is, you cant install anything there) 32MB storage (this is where you install programs and keep your files) 32MB RAM (the memory)

In OZ the first 16MB is called root, but you can remove and install programs there. the next two sections depend on what you downloaded. for example zImage-2.4.18-5500-40memory-24storage.bin will give you 24MB storage (what OZ calls ram) and 40MB for your memory.

Odds are any problems you have installing are due to the time it\'s taking to switchover to the openembedded build system. OZ 3.3.6pre1 really is not supported anymore and is not compatable with alot of software. You just have to wait till openembedded version of OZ gets to the point it\'s ready for testing. Then you should start seeing more action as far as bugfixes and updates.

FYI I\'m too lazy to change my hosts file. but with a few guesses http://www.badgerracing.com/~zug works just fine.
