OpenBSD / Sharp Camera
« on: August 28, 2006, 07:30:23 pm »
I have an sl-c3100 and got it to work with cacko 1.23 using the pdaxrom version of the driver.

AFAIK, the camera requires a kernel module from sharp that is binary only, and only works with the 2.4.18 kernel. I think that limits the card to the SL6000 or the 860 as the newest Zs that will work with it.

I have had it working on a 5500 and 860 but not tried on a newer model. It simply came up as a serial device. I do not remember the result on a C3100 when I had one to try with.

I will try on a c3200 when I am back at home.

Sharp ROMs / Video/tv Streaming Possible?
« on: June 27, 2006, 09:00:45 am »
I use ffserver/ffmpeg of linux box with a video capture card in it (of course).

and I use mplayer/tkcVideo on zaurus with a custom program I wrote to manage the startup of playback via internet, ffserver can do it with as little as 256kbs but quality is a little poor at that bitrate, the happy medium for me has been 416-512kbs.

Having successfully got Shoutcast streaming audio to work on OZ/OPIE (not a big deal when you know how   - thanks for all the help so far...), I tried on cacko and it works very well.

Can I stream TV from the internet to my C1000 directly?  What software do I need, and what Web sites provide links?  I'm struggling to work it out, so as much as detail as possible please.

Sorry for the newbie questions, never tried this before - obviously on windows there's media player etc. already available, so I've never come across setting this up by hand before.

Thanks.

please do post, I have custom build apps for QT (openvpn and a tv program) i need and don't want to re-write for pdaxrom
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Any word on posting it soon?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=132718\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I need to tweak it so the openvpn can be used with any server (setup for my work only) and the tv app is setup for a special server as well.

I will have to make time for that, I just did not know if anyone had a use for such qt apps.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=132844\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Sorry, I was talking about the instructions for running QT inside of PdaXrom.

Gents,

Any idea if this will work with the 6000?  I am trying to read a GPS through the USB port.

I get the following in dmesg

usb.c: USB decive 29 (vend/prod 0x67b/0xaaa0) is not claimed by any driver.

Thanks,

rmako

Anybody have the dt version??  I could really use it.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=121547\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I compiled the driver (pl2303.o) with added support for GPS360 and works fine, but I compiled it from the Cacko 1.23 kernel.

What Rom do you run, and what kernel ver? (2.4.20/????)

Thanks

javahack,
The link that dbowden posted is the same place that I got my Illinois map from. Also make sure you download a file called "usdir.rdm.tgz.gz" (It has "usdir.rdm" inside the archive, which is used as an index file for all the State files). It should be at the bottom of the page where the other files are located.
ant,
I tried that version. It doesn't appear in the install dialog when loaded onto a SD card.
I use Cacko 1.23. I think "armv5te" means it is for pdaXrom, or like dbowden mentioned, it's "a version for OpenZaurus"

I downloaded the "i686 linux version" of "roadmap", not "zroadmap" to get the small utilities I mentioned in my last post:
buildmap & buildus
I tried to install the program onto my other computer, which has "damn small linux" on it. DSL linux won't let me install it, so now I'm downloading an ISO of Debian linux. I download overnight while I'm sleeping. I don't have any linux machines, other than my Zaurus. I want to get the above program installed, so I can try those 2 utilities which I mentioned.

I'm using the old old 1.0 version successfully on my C1000.  Have not tried GPS because I don't have one for my C1000.  I do use the old Radio Shack Digitraveler with my SL-5500 old us rdm and odl maps - works great.

I also would be interested in more development on Zroadmap.  Can you give  a donation link so I can help out and encourage the original developer and any others?

Thanks.

Maybe this will help some people who want a quick fix for USB<>SERIAL adaptor cables (and other USB serial devices) on the C3000.

Yesterday I set up the cross compiler on my x86 linux box and compiled the USB serial modules for SL-C3000 from the kernel source on Sharp's website.

I've posted the compiled drivers in the following directory with some rough instructions on installing them:

   http://www.enm.bris.ac.uk/teaching/enjmr/Zaurus_SL-C3000/

I needed to do this to use some Prolific PL2303 and PL2303x based USB<>RS232 converter cables.  After installing these drivers all adaptors work well.  Note that I needed to find a replacement for pl2303.c to add support for the PL2303X chip, but the standard PL2303 driver is also there in the source (that particular problem was a pain in the ****).

I also had some problem with hotplugging and had to add a line to /etc/hotplug/usb.rc to remove the pl2303 module from memory when the machine goes into standby.  On looking at this file again I see that the line was already there, so I don't know if it was just the updated pl2303x driver that solved that problem.  I don't think anyone will have this problem with these drivers.  Mind you, I'm no expert

Oh yes, and I use minicom pointing to /dev/ttyUSB0.  To make minicom start quickly it helps to disable the modem init string (use 'minicom -o') and hangup strings (delete strings in minicom modem setup screen.)

Hope this helps someone.

Jonathan

Got 'er flashed to cacko  also didn't get the windoze USB driver working, but that doesn't matter anyway. I can transfer files thru USB in "Storage mode". I'm gonna get a CF card reader anyway to transfer files to and from it.
What seems strange is this: I disabled "fast load" on all 4 PIM apps and my memory usage went up in "System info"

used went up
buffer went down
cached went up
Free went down

This thing is just amazing!

usb driver can be made to work with just installing 5600 software, copying \program files\sharp zaurus 2\intellisync folder to somewhere, uninstall 5600 software, install jp software, copy backup of intellisync folder and overwite \program files\sharp zaurus2\intellisync , set settings in z manager and when prompted for z driver use drivers  from jp cdrom
