User Request for Applications / How long does a NAND backup take?
« on: January 02, 2005, 09:24:21 pm »
I'm getting similar behavior, though not quite the same.
Attempting a NAND backup, I get the green progress bar along the bottom.  It get's to 100% in about two minutes, but then hangs there for over a half hour.

The center of the direction button will take me back to the diagnostic screen, which I'm not sure how to exit.  After a reset, the card has the syst0006.dbk file weighing in at 66.2 MB.

Maybe it's fine, but without a normal exit I'm not interested in wiping my ROM to see if the backup restores ok.

I'm using a 256 MB PNY Technologies (purportedly Panasonic) CF card on the Zaurus 6000L.  ROM is the Sharp original (which I'm working on backing up before messing with other options).  I did fdisk and mkfs an msdos FAT partition on the card.  It was completely empty except for the /QtPalmtop and /Documents folders installed automatically when it was mounted in Qtopia.

The first time I tried NAND I forgot to stop the Apache and MySQL daemons, but the second time was straight from a reset so the memory was clear.

... this thread probably belongs in another topic

6000 - Tosa / SL-6000 Expansion Adaptor
« on: September 01, 2004, 02:38:15 pm »
I can't seem to come up with any details on the SL-6000 Expansion Adptor CE-JC2.  It's listed for sale a number of places, but no descriptions or specifications.   According to Amazon a fair number of people have purchased it.

Do you have one?  Do you like it?  So it has another CF slot, and comes with a second battery if I remember the pre-release description.  Are there any other inputs or outputs on it?  There was a thread mention of an issue with the software for moving between the two batteries, still a problem for anyone?

Thanks,
Lichen

General Discussion / Zaurus users in the Seattle, WA area?
« on: June 18, 2004, 04:29:53 am »
Bellingham.  Again, special events but not regular meetings.  I was going to be getting more involved this coming year in the Bellingham Linux Users Group, home of LinuxFest Northwest.  A handheld devices night would be a great idea that I don\'t think has been covered.

General Discussion / Mysql start failure

Sweet, that\'s all correct!  Thank you.

On that path, I probably can eventually figure out some other permissions changes to make to do it all more securely.  I\'ll also have to figure out how to get it stopped.  But at least I\'m rolling now, much appreciated.

General Discussion / Mysql start failure
« on: May 25, 2004, 02:11:45 am »
On my new SL-6000L I installed MySQL using the old .ipk for the 3.22 version  from the Zaurus Software Index following these instructions which are exactly like tips I saw somewhere on ZUG.

The installation seemed to be successful.  But running the mysqlstart script results in:
Code: [Select]
Starting MySQL database server: mysqld...failed
So the script seems to be running, but failing to spawn or contact the daemon.

An earlier post mentioned \"ipkg-link add ___\" but ipkg doesn\'t recognize or list a -link option. Mysql is shown by ipkg as having installed ok and with lots of attached files.

What now?  I could start following the installed code and learn a lot about scripting, or try to roll my own .ipk for MySQL, or sketch out which MySQL files are where and do what, or slaughter a capybara in sacrifice to the database deity.  But each of those could be an 8 month project for a newbie and I\'d love to have it working for a long train trip in mid-June, not to mention keeping my time for other Linux projects.

Have you done a MySQL install on the 6000 yet or know of incompatibility issues? Have ideas on where to start troubleshooting?  Know a great story about kelp that will distract me from this challenge?
