Sharp ROMs / Cacko Rom 1.23 With Full Japanese Language Support
« on: December 06, 2006, 07:51:51 am »
It's because the helvetica fonts used when locale is set to English is not a unicode font, and therefore can't display Japanese characters.

I think you have to either switch to Japanese locale (which means every program is in Japanese), or "remove" those fonts to force the system into using the unicode fonts.

How much does it cost to take those tests? And how often can you take them? I'll probably be in Japan this summer from April to late July, and taking the Level 3 test would be nice. I probably know enough grammar for Level 2, but am seriously lacking in Kanji known.

Btw, how did it go for you two?

Cxx0 Hardware / Help, charger chip fried?
« on: October 26, 2004, 07:55:41 am »
Thanks for your answer, though it won't make my friend happy of course. I think she'll just let it be a brick for a few month, and then bring it to sharp directly when she goes to japan next year. Much cheaper than the postage back and forth from japan, though she'll be having quite the expensive brick until then.

Cxx0 Hardware / Help, charger chip fried?
« on: October 25, 2004, 03:25:50 pm »
A friend of mine got so excited about my c750, she also bought one. Now it won't charge, and after having read through most of the topic on this forum, I've been able to conclude that it most likely was a reversed polarity fry of the charger. Now, I'm wondering, is the only way to send it back to Sharp (or buy an external charger), or would it work with a USB sync-charger? The question being, is the actual charger fried, or is it just the converter between the incoming power and the charger (which the usb system would circumvent)?

And yes, I've tried resetting the battery adjustment, which worked, but didn't allow it to start charging, and it just went down, down, down and died again.

Mac Issues / VNC between a C750 and a Mac
« on: October 21, 2004, 07:05:34 pm »
It usually doesn't... it works just as well as on any other *nix, as far as I know. How are you connecting your Z with your mac? If it's by the usb cabel, it could very well be a problem with the Zaurus USB network driver.

Hey, that's great! Thanks a million!

Now, if only we could get that webspace for enamdic...

Without romaji is fine with me, with nothing but romaji on the other hand is pretty useless, don't you agree? Romaji shouldn't be used anyway.

What about sending it to us over msn?

Edit: If you have the time, do you think you could get kanjidic compiled without all the text encoding codes? They're kind of in the way in zten...

Whoa! I too would love to have enamdic. I don't have a webspace to store it in, but maybe we could do a torrent or something? Or maybe you could just dcc it to us needy folks over msn or irc?

Also, is there a possibility of you converting kanjidic to fpw format as well, halx?

You know, the script stubear mentions is really, really simple to run. Connecting with your computer shouldn't be too hard, to transfer the file and terminal application if you don't have it already.

I'm expecting a few shouts along the lines of "SUGOI!!!" and "HOSHIII!" when classes start up again in the fall, as I turn on my C750 and start handwriting Kanji. My classmates all (or most) have canon wordtanks, which are just electronic sictionaries. And I've already had some linux geek's jaws drop

I haven't had random people suddenly walk up to me and ask questions about my Z though... yet.

Norge?

General Discussion / Buying a new Z SL-C7x0 from Japan?
« on: July 09, 2004, 01:02:56 pm »
The japanese amazon site, like its american and european counterparts, unfortunatly do not ship electronics worldwide. Books and CDs, sure, but electronics only to domestic buyers.

I bought my C750 from pricejapan.com, a company that does grey-exporting by actually ordering fromt he cheapest store in japan, adding 5% for their own profit, and sending it to you. If you know english, it works fine, if you know japanese it should work even better I suspect.

My 750 cost a total of 481 USD, which is a bargain if you ask me.
