Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Best Balance of Most Advanced + Most Stable?

I use 3.3.6pre1 with Opie 1.1.4 on a SL5500G.  So far it is rather stable (much more so than 3.3.5). With the compat libs I got most of the old apps to work.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / OZ 3.3.6-pre1 and keyboard layouts

I am trying to figure out how to change the keyboard layout of my SL5500G (QWERTZ not QWERTY plus the Umlaut keys). I was able to use a German layout for the hardware keyboard with keyz-zkb with OZ 3.2. I have installed this utility on 3.3.6 and was able to make it run with the compat libs but it has no effect.
